What kind of beds can be called one-and-a-half beds, what features do they have and what nuances need to be taken into account when choosing? These questions interest many people who are planning to purchase this furniture. Next, I will try to answer them in detail and share some other useful information.

A semi-bed is a compromise between a single and double bed

Features and Benefits

For a small bedroom, a one-and-a-half bed is an excellent option. It is comfortable enough for sleeping, but at the same time compact and does not take up much space.

A one-and-a-half-bed bed is often used as the lower level of a bunk bed. This bed is suitable for people with heavy weight. In this case, preference should be given to a wide model with a reinforced base. The wide model is suitable for active, easily excitable children who toss and turn a lot in their sleep.

The advantages of furniture of this type include:

  • convenience;
  • wide selection of designs, materials, colors and styles;
  • compactness, which is especially important for the interior of small apartments;
  • the cost is lower than that of double models;
  • if there are drawers or a lifting mechanism, the one-and-a-half bed, in addition to the sleeping place, is also part of the storage system;
  • A model of this size is an excellent solution for a children's room.

A one-and-a-half bed with a metal frame is suitable for interiors decorated in minimalist and ultra-modern industrial styles. For classics and baroque, it is better to choose a model made of natural wood. Beds made of MDF or chipboard, thanks to a large selection of design options, will decorate themed children's or teenagers' rooms. For a bed with such dimensions it is easy to choose an orthopedic or anatomical mattress.

Additional bed accessories

After you have chosen the ideal bed for your bedroom, it is important to immediately purchase a suitable mattress for it, but now we are not talking about the size of the mattress, but about the characteristics of its design. You need to learn to understand the basic fillings and formats so that later inappropriate filling does not affect the health of your sleep

The next step will be the choice of bed linen, and only at the very end can you move on to paraphernalia and textiles to complement the bedroom interior.

How to choose a mattress

By designSpringBasic internal structure of mattresses. It is characterized by vitality and elasticity.
SpringlessA block of artificial or natural fillers simulating springs.
By fillerLatexNatural material. Hygienic and supports the spine.
Coconut coirDurable and elastic. Has high bactericidal properties.
Polyurethane foamConducts air efficiently. High elasticity.
SisalEasily evaporates moisture and allows air to pass through. Durable material.
By formatBilateralModels with different surface characteristics.
UnilateralSame surface on both sides.
OrthopedicProvides optimal support for the spine.

The number one criterion when choosing a mattress is personal preference. For people with back pain, it is better to purchase special orthopedic options. For those who sweat a lot, a mattress filled with sisal or polyurethane foam is suitable.

Bed sheets

Among the most important points when choosing bed linen is the fabric from which it was made. A child needs to buy underwear made from a delicate and soft material such as linen or satin, since children's skin is highly susceptible to rough products. Adults need to think about the ventilation and durability of their underwear, because fragile fabric wears out quickly, and non-breathable underwear does not allow the skin to breathe. The best bedding fabrics are cotton, calico, terry jersey, flannel, linen, reaper, silk and twill. Under no circumstances should you purchase artificial products, which often cause allergic reactions due to the presence of substances harmful to the skin.

Furniture attributes

There is nothing more important in a bedroom than color harmony. It is better to think about the color scheme of the bedroom from the bed, and not from the coloring of the walls or curtains purchased long ago, but dear to the heart. For a minimalist style, light-dark shades of furniture are suitable. For example, a pair: white bed – dark nightstand. If you want to play with contrasts, then collect several shades that combine with each other so that the colors logically flow from one furniture attribute to another. The bedroom is also decorated with additional cabinets, small wardrobes, and compact shelves. Think about the flooring too. A soft carpet is a common interior solution. It is placed under the bed so that getting up and lying down on your bare feet is more than comfortable.

Decorative textiles

Finally, when you have taken care of the technical aspects of the bedroom, it is time to decorate the bed with additional items to complete the interior design. The most common solutions for room decor:

  • Bedspreads. In order to maintain the hygiene of bedding and diversify the interior of the sleeping area, many people cover their beds with special bedspreads.
  • Decorative pillows. Once you assemble the bed and cover it with a blanket or blanket, the appearance of the bed can be significantly affected by a large pile of sleeping pillows. The ideal option is to hide sleeping items and unload special decorative pillows in their place.
  • Covers. When you can’t find a bedspread that fits, there is a more practical option - a cover. A bed cover will reduce the time it takes to make the bed, and will also provide complete protection of the linen from dust and other “pests”.

Dimensions

The size of a one-and-a-half bed may vary depending on the manufacturer and the requirements of the buyer.

Our width of a one-and-a-half bed ranges from 120 to 160 cm. The standard length of a bed for a person 170 cm tall is 190 cm. You can order a model with a length of 200-210 cm. The height can range from 20 to 60 cm or more.

Tall models are often additionally equipped with a cabinet for storing things, access to which is opened using a lifting mechanism, or drawers placed in 1 or 2 levels. The height of the structure is affected by the thickness of the mattress. The most comfortable bed is considered to be from the floor to the knees.

European manufacturers have an average width of a single bed - 140-160 cm, length - 200-210 cm and height with a mattress - 50 cm. American and English manufacturers measure their products in inches, and each of them has their own parameters for single-bed models. For example, the width can be 48, 54 and 59 inches, and the length can be 74-79 inches. Height preferences also differ. For example, Americans prefer high beds, up to 90 cm.

It affects the final dimensions and what height and width the head of the bed will be. It can be part of the frame or be a separate structure attached to the wall. A comfortable headboard should match the height of the person who will use the furniture. In width, it can be much wider and higher than the sleeping place, if this is due to the design of the room. The headboard can be rectangular, rounded or shaped.

Sleeping place

Table of bed standards.

The mattress must strictly correspond to the size of the bed. A larger product will be unevenly distributed over the surface and will damage your posture. A mattress with smaller parameters will deform the frame and disrupt rest. The height of the flooring should be slightly higher than the level of the side of the bed. The sizes of springless models range from 15-24 cm. Thin floorings (2-10 cm) serve as mattress covers for old sofas. Products equipped with springs have a height of 18-32 cm. There are elite options reaching 50 cm.

It is important to take into account the individual characteristics of vacationers:

  • For those with an average build, a mattress with independent springs and a bed measuring 160x190 cm will suit them;
  • People who need more space will like the high springless mattresses, which are 180 cm wide;
  • Fragile consumers make do with soft double models 150-155 cm.

When planning to choose a double bed yourself, you should take clear measurements of the room and additional furniture, transfer them to paper, and create a drawing. The GOST dimensions can be neglected if the width of the room exceeds 300 cm - the best option would be royal boxes of European and American standards. For a room that serves as a bedroom and living room at the same time, a folding sofa will be an alternative to a bed:

  • “Eurobook” with a standard sleeping area 200*160 cm;
  • "Accordion" size 160x185 cm;
  • “Click-clack” width 170, 190 or 200 cm;
  • "Aleko" up to 200-250 cm long;
  • "Saber" with a bed width of 160 cm.

For a comfortable stay, you should pay attention to the quality and size of bed linen. Euro sizes of bed linen are especially popular: for a bed with dimensions of 160*200 cm, a sheet of 220*240 cm, a duvet cover of 200*220 cm are suitable

A double bed with built-in shelves will save precious centimeters. Orthopedic models with a lifting mechanism corresponding to the parameters 183 * 223, headboard height 95 cm are widely in demand. For ease of reading, install the lamp at a height of 120 - 160 cm.

When calculating the space allocated for a sleeping bed, it is important to take into account the dimensions of additional elements. Sets that include a double bed with bedside tables and built-in shelves will simplify the choice of furniture; the finished set is made in the same style and takes up little space: 1690*2160 mm (bed dimensions) and 300*400 mm (bedside table)

Double furniture provides a comfortable resting position for married couples, overweight, sick and elderly people. Roomy models allow the use of an orthopedic mattress and pillows. It is convenient to complement modular products with compact cabinets, racks and shelves. However, in small rooms, a massive piece of furniture will take up maximum free space. Double products are difficult to choose for non-standard rooms, unusually shaped rooms, and elongated bedrooms.

A loft bed would be a good alternative for adults. The lowest height of the two-seater model is 1800 mm, and the highest is 1900 mm. Bunk furniture is a youth option for small apartments or dorms. The height of the second tier reaches 145-1800 cm. These parameters are not recommended for elderly people or people afraid of heights. You should also take into account the height of the ceilings of the apartment. With walls 240 cm and a bed 180 cm, 60 cm remains above the second tier. The design of such furniture can be as varied as possible. Often the sleeping area is complemented by a desk, linen closet or bookshelves.

What characteristics in the description of a bed should you pay attention to first? For color or design? Or maybe for the presence of a lifting mechanism or linen niches? No, the most important thing is the size of the bed. Even the most beautiful and well-made bed will seem uncomfortable if its size does not suit you

Selecting bed length

bed length

To determine the comfortable length of the bed, you need to add another 30 centimeters to the person’s height

This is especially important for people who sleep on their backs, stretched out to their full height, and even with a large pillow. In such a situation, an extra 40 cm in length will not hurt

But if your height is 180 cm, or even higher, do not be alarmed - many furniture companies can increase the original length of the bed for an additional fee.

Materials

One-and-a-half models consist of a frame with legs or a drawer, a base and a headboard. Tsarga are wooden planks that are used as support. They further strengthen the frame. The legs are made of wood or metal. Metal legs can be adjusted.

To make the frame, natural wood, metal pipes or wood-containing materials (MDF or laminated chipboard) are used. Metal products must be coated with anti-corrosion varnish or paint. Wooden beds are made from oak, birch, ash, and pine.

Products made from laminated chipboard can emit formaldehyde, so it is important to always check certificates confirming the quality and origin of the materials. Orthopedic lamellas or solid sheets of plywood, chipboard, and boards are installed as a base under the mattress.

The frame can be open or closed. Natural or artificial leather, jacquard, velor, tapestry, flock, chenille, matting, suede or microfiber are used as upholstery. To increase wear resistance, the upholstery is treated with Teflon or Scotchgard.

Review of manufacturers

The most popular international brand is Swedish Ikea. The manufacturer offers a large selection of models, for example, a bed with a side kick, a lifting mechanism for the entire bed or only part of it, with built-in or mobile drawers.

The company offers a large selection of materials and colors, which allows their beds to fit into any interior. Such foreign manufacturers of the middle price segment as the Italian Danona and the Finnish Isku are also popular with us.

In Russia, the production of one-and-a-half models is carried out by the enterprises VEF, Alliance 21st Century, Ascona, Fyodor Fokin's Beds, Ormatek, Toris, Dreamland. The products of these brands are popular due to the high quality of the products, their safety and variety of models. Most domestic manufacturers use natural wood as a material, which also affects the price of finished beds.

Belarusian one-and-a-half beds are popular here.

Price

The final cost of the bed depends on the material, decor, mattress, availability of a lifting mechanism and storage system. So, a model with an orthopedic mattress will cost slightly more than without it.

Single beds with a natural wood mattress cost from $300 to $1000. Elite designer models, products equipped with additional drawers or a lifting mechanism can be valued even more.

The cost of metal products depends on how artistic the execution is. An industrially produced metal bed made from pipes will cost up to $500, and the price of a forged, decorated model can reach $1000. The price of structures with lifts depends on what shock absorbers are used. The most expensive are gas elevators, the cheapest are loops.

The most budget options are products made from chipboard and plywood. This bed can be purchased for $120.

How to choose

When thinking about choosing a single bed, first of all you should decide on the material, dimensions and equipment. It is important to evaluate the quality of the assembly, the reliability of the fastenings and the appearance of the product - the absence of damage or glue drips.

Models with drawers

Single beds with drawers are the most convenient design option. Boxes can be autonomous and mobile, moving on wheels.

A single bed with drawers built into its base in one or several levels may be called a “captain’s bed” in manufacturers’ catalogs. It is much higher than standard models and is a full-fledged storage system that allows you to save useful space in the bedroom or nursery.

The drawers can be located at the end or at the side of the frame. They extend due to guide mechanisms.

When choosing such a design, it is important to consider which side the drawers will open from in order to provide free space for this in the room.

Models with lifting mechanism

A single bed with a lifting mechanism comes in two types:

  1. With the ability to raise the bed and change the angle of inclination for different parts of the body. Such beds are often installed in hospitals or purchased for home use for bedridden patients.
  2. With the ability to lift the entire bed frame. This opens up access to the storage cabinet at its base.

Lifting mechanisms are of the following types:

Automated.This type is most often used for beds with a raised bed and a change in the inclination of the bed. These are expensive designs, the disadvantage of which is their dependence on the power source.
Gas elevators.The most reliable and durable type of shock absorbers for raising beds, in addition, the most expensive. This shock absorber completely takes on the weight of the structure when lifting, so even a child can use it.
Spring mechanism.It is cheaper than gas and less reliable. Lifting a bed with such shock absorbers will require physical effort.
Loop mechanismThe simplest, cheapest and quite reliable. Its disadvantage is that lifting depends entirely on the physical efforts of a person.

What do you do with old furniture?

Dimensions depending on type

Standard bed sizes are relative concepts and are determined primarily by the country of origin. To choose the most comfortable bed, several factors are taken into account: the physical characteristics and build of a person, his preferences, room parameters. It is also important that you can place a bed in the bedroom in different ways:

  • Along the wall;
  • Head to the wall;
  • In the corner;
  • In a niche;
  • Free in the room;
  • At the end.

Manufacturers strive to take into account all the wishes of customers, therefore they offer a wide selection of models and usually it is not difficult to purchase suitable furniture for relaxation. Minimum width of sleeping beds: single – 70 cm, single – 110 cm, size of 2 sleeping beds – 140 cm.

What height is best to install a bed? There is no clear answer to this question. There are no uniform height standards. Since in Asia they prefer to place the sleeping place low: the height of the bed from the floor together with the mattress is about 20-30 cm. Europeans install structures at an average level: the standard bed height is 50-55 cm. In American versions, the sleeping place is located approximately at a meter level ( or a little lower).

How to make it yourself

To make a bed yourself, you will need a diagram or drawing with a list of necessary parts with dimensions.

The easiest way is to make a bed yourself from laminated chipboard or natural wood. Sawing, edging and milling of parts can be ordered from the supplier of these materials. Since it is not easy to make lamellas with sufficient shock absorption yourself, it is better to purchase ready-made ones or make a base for the mattress from plywood or a rough chipboard board installed on the sides screwed to the sidewalls and the inner legs.

For assembly you will need a screwdriver with a confirm bit, a PZ bit for self-tapping screws, a confirm drill, an awl, and a hinge cutter.

First, plastic bearings with screws are installed on the sidewalls to protect the end of the chipboard from moisture. They are screwed to the lower end of the sidewalls with 3.5*16 screws. Then we mark the attachment points for the sides on the sides and fasten them with 3.5*30 screws.

Now you can fasten all the sides of the bed with confirmations; screw the legs on the inside. The legs are screwed to the front drawer from the inside with metal furniture corners. If the sides do not touch the floor, they are aligned with the headboard.

In the base board, using a milling cutter for the hinges, for ease of installation, make 2 holes for hands and lay the base inside the frame, on the prepared sides.

Dimensions

First of all, you need to remember about the internationality of the production of bedroom furniture. Its most striking example is the products of Ikea. Therefore, you need to take into account the place of manufacture and the standards to which the furniture was produced.

What dimensions should you know before buying a one-and-a-half bed? In addition to the standard width and length, attention is paid to the height of the frame, front and rear panels (if provided for in the design). For European manufacturers, standard sizes have the following values.

  • Width: from 140 to 160 cm.
  • Length: from 200 to 210 cm.
  • Height with mattress is about 50 cm.

However, American brands have different standards. This is explained by the adopted measurement system. Unlike the European metric, North America and the UK use the English system (inches and feet). At the same time, there is also a nominal classification of one-and-a-half beds.

  • Small Double: width 122 cm, length 190 cm.
  • Double: width 137.2 cm, length 190 cm.
  • King: width 150 cm, length 200 cm.

The height is also not regulated and largely depends on the model. It is noteworthy that this designation is adopted to describe hotel rooms. You can make a preliminary selection of the best types after analyzing photos in catalogs of manufacturers or trading organizations.

Design

Styles: classic and modern (avant-garde, hi-tech, techno). There are Japanese and country. Various upholstery materials, leather, eco-leather are used to decorate the beds. The lifting mechanism provides access to the box. It turns out something between a sofa and a bed.

We advise you to study - How to choose a concrete mixer - types, characteristics and selection criteria

Often beds are equipped with a lifting mechanism that allows access to the built-in linen drawer. Designers are constantly developing new interesting models of beds: with canopies, transformable beds. The basis for them was a one-and-a-half bed. The dimensions and standard are preserved, but are supplemented with original design elements. Some models are decorated with LED lighting. Among this variety, everyone can choose their own bed.

The size of the sleeping place is calculated based on the average dimensions of a person: the length of the bed exceeds the height by 200 mm, the width of the mattress is 400 mm greater than the volume of the body. According to GOST, the standard size of a double bed is 1900-2100 mm in length, 1600-1800 mm in width. The shape and dimensions of the furniture depend on the number of vacationers, their age, special preferences and the country of origin: America, Europe or Asia.

Bed sizes differ depending on the country of manufacture:

  1. European countries use the metric system of measurement (mm, m). The standard length of the bed is 2000-2100 mm, only the width changes. For double structures it can be 1600, 1800, 2000 mm;
  2. The English size grid (in inches and feet) is used by US furniture factories. The length of the models is limited to the range of 190-213 cm, the width is identical to European ones.

When choosing a foreign-made bed, it is important to choose similar sizes of bed linen. The need is caused by the spread of measurement systems (converting American inches gives fractional European values). For example, 80 inches in length and 60 inches in width in Euro standards corresponds to 2032 cm and 1524 mm

The ease of use of furniture largely depends on which frame is selected:

  • Japanese models are not suitable for children, the elderly or people with sore joints - it is difficult to get up from a low surface;
  • European products are a universal solution for adults and children;
  • American frames - suitable for tall people.

Europe

Euro beds are produced in the following parameters:

  • Length – 2000 mm;
  • Width – 1800-2000 mm;
  • Height – 450 mm.

Many users mistakenly believe that the dimensions of Euro beds are larger than standard ones. The difference lies only in the definition of the standard itself: the basic size of Russian furniture is 160x190 cm, in Europe the smallest double bed is 180x200. The increment in the width of the bed is 5-10 cm. Heights are 15-25 cm when the bed is equipped with a spring mattress, 10-20 cm when using latex flooring.

There are rectangular, square, oval and round Eurobeds. The latest model will add luxury and presentability to a spacious room. Wide models are ideal for those who like to sleep on their stomach or back, and for older people who need free space. Euro beds are placed against a wall 350 cm wide, leaving aisles of 70 cm.

USA

In the USA, double beds are called “Western or California king”, and products are labeled “Western King” or “California King” respectively. The width of the structures is 1829 mm, length – 2133 mm.

The “Standard King”, “Eastern King” and “King” series of products are available with an increased width of 1930 or 1980 mm, and a shorter length of 2032 mm. Standard sizes of double beds from English, American or Australian brands are measured in inches: 76*80, 72*80, 72*78, which translated into metric sizes is 193*203 cm, 184*203 cm, 184*198 cm, respectively.

Asia

All Japanese furniture takes up minimal space. The interior of the structures is equipped with built-in cabinets at the base or an automatically rising mattress. The backrests are also equipped with drawers, shelves for small items, lighting and sockets. It is not necessary to install a bedside table. The dimensions of the furniture are close to Western standards:

  • Double or Full – marking of narrow double products with a mattress 135x190 cm;
  • Queen – designation of a double bed with parameters 152x190 cm;
  • King is the largest two-seater model with a length of 202 cm and a width of 193 cm;
  • California or California King are elongated double designs that accommodate a mattress measuring 183x212 cm.

How to choose a lorry

But is it enough to know the dimensions of a one-and-a-half bed to choose the best option? There are several parameters, knowledge of which is necessary to analyze the presented models.

For one or two

The advantage of one-and-a-half bedroom furniture lies in its versatility. It is designed for full sleep for one or two people. It all depends on personal preferences, height and usual location on the bed.

What size is best for one person to sleep normally? This can be achieved by one-and-a-half models with a width of 140 cm. The height can be adjusted by adding 10 cm to the height. For two people, preference is given to large types of beds with a width of 155 cm. Despite the low price compared to standard double models, there is no need to save on your vacation. If you have doubts about the size of the future bed, it is better to take it with a margin in terms of dimensions.

Tips for choosing.

  1. Try lying on the bed before purchasing (with the seller's permission, of course). The first impressions will be the most correct.
  2. When making a lorry, the maximum human height of 190 cm is taken into account. If in fact it is larger, it is best to order individual production.

These are generally accepted tips to help you make your choice. But we must not forget about the aesthetic side; new sleeping furniture should harmoniously fit into the future interior of the room.

Selection of mattress

The bed is a kind of frame for the mattress. Therefore, you need to select both it and the mattress at the same time. To do this, measure the internal dimensions of the bed. Manufacturers often indicate them in the product data sheet. They must match the size of the mattress.

In addition, you need to take into account its height. After installation, it should be 15-20 cm higher than the side panels. Currently, you can purchase mattresses in various sizes, but the following are considered standard for single beds.

  • 140*190 cm.
  • 160*200 cm.

Having decided on the size and type of truck, you can begin choosing a specific model. At this stage, it is necessary to analyze proposals from manufacturers.

Non-standard shape

The bed is the main and integral element of the interior. Therefore, it is not surprising that many designers and creative people strive to install a stock of non-standard sizes or shapes. Such delights are suitable for a large bedroom, where there will be a lot of options for installing a bed. It is in a spacious room that you can truly appreciate an unusual bed. What are the different forms of the original models?

The most varied: round, oval, arched, heart-shaped, stylized as a car. The oval is closest to the traditional rectangular shape of the bed. However, round models are very popular. To make it comfortable for an adult to rest in an unusual sleeping place, manufacturers produce models of different parameters. We can roughly distinguish the following dimensions of a round bed:

  • Single bed – diameter 200 cm;
  • One and a half – diameter 210 cm;
  • The diameter of the 2nd bed is 220 cm.

If children in a family periodically sleep with their parents, then it is advisable to install a bed of non-standard sizes - 250 cm in diameter. You need to purchase furniture (frame/base and mattress) from one manufacturer. Bedding sets for original shaped beds are more expensive than for the standard model. It is not always possible to choose a round bedspread. But such problems are completely solvable - it’s enough to order individual bedding sets.

Large beds can also be classified as non-standard products. Tall lovers of spacious sleeping areas will have to order individual furniture. It is important to make sure that there is also a mattress of the right size. The world's largest bed, located in a hotel in Amsterdam, sleeps 8 people.

Review of manufacturers

The undisputed leader in the economy segment of ready-made furniture, including single beds, is the Swedish company Ikea. This became possible thanks to a large network of hypermarkets and assortment. In addition to them, one can note the trademarks Danona (Italy) and Isku (Finland).

Russian production is not so widespread. If we do not take into account the large number of small workshops, then experts highlight the products of the following brands: Fyodor Fokin Beds, VEF and Alliance 21st Century. To compare prices, a table with the most popular models has been compiled.

What else should you consider when choosing a one-and-a-half bed? The quality of the lamellas of the lathing for fixing the mattress. It must be made of high-quality materials and withstand the required load of at least 2 adults.

Mattresses

Soft padding is essential for most beds. Only followers of Indian yogis will be able to sleep on a rigid frame. A flat surface is also useful for people with spinal pathologies. The rest will need mattresses. Let's present the dimensions in the form of a table:

Dimensions of 1.5-bed bedding and one-and-a-half beds

Reading time: 4 minutes

The size of 1.5-bed bedding corresponds to the standard dimensions of a one-and-a-half bed, which are determined according to GOST. But since offline and online stores sell a huge range of imported furniture and bedding, choosing the right set can be difficult. In order not to make a mistake, take measurements from the mattress, pillows, blankets and check them with the parameters of the one-and-a-half-bed set marked on the packaging.

Single bed dimensions: standard

The lorry can only be found in Russia and post-Soviet countries. Foreign manufacturers define the dimensions of beds more flexibly: they vary from 1-bedroom to 2-bedroom. In the Russian Federation, an intermediate version is common, and since 2007 GOST has been installed on it.

According to the standard, the width of a single bed can be 120–160 centimeters, and the length – 190. Products are checked for compliance with standards, making their exact measurements. Permissible errors – ±1 mm.

The dimensions of children's one-and-a-half beds are especially carefully checked. They are allowed to be made a little shorter than provided by GOST, but the width must correspond to the established boundary values. Since babies grow quickly, such beds are often equipped with a sliding mechanism, which allows them to be extended up to 190 cm.

On a note

In terms of size, a 1.5-bed bed can be called quite roomy and at the same time miniature. It takes up less space than a 2-bedroom, but can be used by one or two people.

The standards of European clothing companies vary. The average width and length of the beds they produce, which fall under the parameters of one-and-a-half beds, are 120–170 and 190–210 cm, respectively. Typically products have the following dimensions:

  • 120x200 cm;
  • 130x200 cm;
  • 150x200 cm.

American furniture factories use a bed size chart that is atypical for domestic companies, which is due to a different measurement system in the USA: here parameters are measured in pounds, not centimeters. The standard size of a semi-truck in America is 122 cm in width and 190 cm in length.

The height of the beds is not fixed. It depends on their design, as well as the presence or absence of a sliding mechanism, built-in drawers and other design features and can range from 30 to 80 cm.

We recommend

In order not to experience inconvenience while sleeping, when choosing a one-and-a-half bed, consider two parameters: length and width. The bed should be 20 cm longer than the person. To determine the appropriate width, lie on your side and bend your knees. If they do not hang down, and there is more than 15 cm of free space behind your back, then this bed model is more than suitable for you.

Standard double bed size: which one to choose for your bedroom

Hello, dear friends! Despite the variety of design solutions, the use of transformation mechanisms and other elements, the dimensions of the bed are the basis of choice. Therefore, today we’ll talk about the standard size of a double bed, its features and possible design options.

If you are interested, in a separate article we will consider the issue related to the dimensions of single and one-and-a-half standard beds.

It is double designs that are most common. They are used in houses and apartments. However, the standard is not always the same for everyone.

Description of one-and-a-half bed linen set

A standard set of one-and-a-half sheets includes one sheet, one duvet cover and one or two pillowcases. Information about the number of bedding items is indicated on the packaging. It also indicates the material of their manufacture and information about the models, which are quite diverse.

Models of 1.5-bed bedding:

  • One-and-a-half sheets come standard and with elastic at the edges. The second version of the product is convenient because it does not come out from under the mattress and does not crumple, so it does not need to be constantly adjusted.
  • Pillowcases differ in the type of fastener. There are models with zippers, buttons and non-fastening ones. The latter are equipped with a special wraparound pocket; it holds the pillow inside the product, preventing it from sliding off.
  • One-and-a-half duvet covers are produced in 2 types - with a cut in the center or on the side. The second model is often called continuous. It can be fastened with buttons or a zipper.

An important criterion for choosing a sleeping set is the material of manufacture. It is better to give preference to products made from natural fabrics, for example, cotton. They do not shrink when washed, are easy to wash and do not wrinkle.

Linen is no less popular. Sleeping accessories made from this material are the most wear-resistant and absorb moisture well. They have only one drawback: they wrinkle quickly and require frequent ironing.

Sizes of one-and-a-half bed linen: standard

The parameters of bed linen for one and a half beds are variable, since manufacturers often adhere to individually designed patterned mesh. However, they cannot be smaller than the dimensions of a semi-truck determined by GOST.

The approximate size of a 1.5-bed duvet cover made in Europe or America is 145x210 cm. This is the most common option. It is suitable for a 1.5-sleeping blanket with dimensions of 140 by 205 centimeters. Imported sheets and pillowcases can have dimensions of 183×274 and 51×76 or 65×65 cm, respectively.

The ideal duvet cover is 5-6 cm wider and longer than a 1.5-size duvet. If in fact the size of a one-and-a-half duvet cover turns out to be larger than indicated on the packaging, it means that the manufacturer has provided a small margin for shrinkage.

On a note

The inscription on the Single or 1-bed label means that the sleeping set includes one pillowcase. Sets from German and Austrian manufacturers never include a sheet. Italian textile factories produce duvet covers already 140 cm.

To determine the appropriate bedding parameters, arm yourself with a sewing tape measure and take measurements of the bed, pillows and blanket. If you are using an orthopedic mattress, measure it too.

The parameters of the sheet are determined not so much by the dimensions of the bed as by the mattress. The ideal option is when it is 30–60 cm longer and wider. For example, on a 125x200 cm mattress it is better to put a 150x215 cm sheet on it. The larger it is, the easier it is to tuck it in.

When choosing a fitted sheet, do not add extra centimeters to the width and length. It should perfectly match the sleeping area. On the packaging of such products there is one more parameter - the height of the side, which should be equal to the height of an orthopedic or regular mattress. It is designated as follows: 190×90+30 cm, 190×90, side 30 cm.

Pillows produced in the Russian Federation have the same length and width. For square pillowcases, 70x70 cm are suitable, and for rectangular ones, 50x70 cm.

If a one-and-a-half bed has non-standard parameters or is equipped with an orthopedic mattress that is too large, you can purchase bedding separately, rather than a 1.5-bed set. Or order individual tailoring of one-and-a-half-size bed linen.
