Manufacturing.

Considering the fact that the sofa is corner, you should not confuse the details of the short and long sides. Execution order:

  • To begin, set up two sidewalls and, using fasteners, connect them to a horizontal beam and vertical posts. There must be at least four attachment points for each rack. The frame of one side is ready. Now it needs to be sheathed. A sheet of plywood is attached to the top of the frame. Chipboard needs to be attached to the back.

  • Next you need to move on to assembling the second part - the short one. There will also be a linen drawer here. On the sides you need to attach longitudinal transverse bars. Cover the finished frame and seat with chipboard and plywood. Cover the bottom with fiberboard.

  • If the box is removable, then it can be made of fiberboard. For the lifting mechanism, drill holes for mounting bolts and secure.
  • Armrests for a sofa can be removable, fabric or connected to a frame. To do this, screw a beam that follows the shape of the armrest to the frame. All this is covered with chipboard.
  • If the armrests are of an unusual shape, with curves, then use fiberboard and a lot of small nails. Sharp edges need to be smoothed out so that the lining does not wear out.

  • Cover the finished wooden structure with foam rubber - for the seats, take solid dense pieces for the left and right parts, and the back can be made into a prefabricated one, from several elements. The recommended thickness of foam rubber is more than 100 millimeters. If there is no such thickness, then thin elements can be glued together.

Furniture board - as a basis for creating a sofa with your own hands

This material is not much inferior to solid wood, but it is much more pliable in processing. The pricing policy depends on several factors simultaneously, the dominant ones being the type of wood and its thickness.

Material selection

The choice of material should be approached very seriously; you need to think through the design of the sofa in advance. Having made a detailed list of everything you need, you can go to the hardware store. The thickness and quantity of everything needed will depend only on your preferences and wishes.

The base of the sofa is most often made of wood, timber from coniferous trees. Usually preference is given to pine timber, as it is stronger than its “brothers”. The following important materials can be highlighted:

  • Fiberboard – bottom for the sofa and drawers.
  • Chipboard – laminated, used for furniture panels (sofa base and armrests).
  • Plywood - covering for the sofa frame. Birch is considered the best.
  • Foam rubber, synthetic winterizer - materials for stuffing the back of a sofa and pillows.
  • Upholstery fabric is a decorative part of the sofa, used for upholstery and creating the final look.
  • Fasteners - screws, self-tapping screws, corners, nails and everything that will be used to assemble the elements.
  • Retractable mechanism - type of mechanism, the choice depends on your desire, as well as on your skills.
  • Furniture legs – can be stable or on wheels.
  • Glue and threads are useful when joining pieces of foam rubber and re-upholstering work.

Other interesting sofa options

Furniture can be made not only from plywood or furniture panels. Take a look at ideas that are worth considering. Perhaps they will inspire you...

We do it on the balcony or gazebo

With a corner sofa on the balcony and in the gazebo, you are guaranteed comfort. On warm summer evenings it will be very pleasant to gather with the whole family or invite friends.

Such a sofa can be created from ordinary and familiar pallets. Another name is pallets.

All the work consists of building the necessary structure from the boxes and fastening them. However, for aesthetics, it is necessary to pre-treat the pallets in any convenient and suitable way for the interior - sanding, painting, varnishing, creating an aging or glossy effect, decoupage, drawing. Whatever comes to mind and matches the fabric will do.

Then you will need to make a seat. Stack several pallets on top of each other until you get the height and length you need. Fasten them together with self-tapping screws. You can put solid sheets of plywood between the drawers and get additional shelves for storing things.

Then you should do the back. Place the pallets vertically relative to the seat to create an “L” shape.

Cover the resulting frame with plywood or chipboard sheets. Next, you can cover the elements with foam rubber or make removable seats - without attaching the plywood to the pallets, cover them with foam rubber and fabric. If necessary, they can simply be removed. Next, sew the necessary elements - pillows of different sizes, armrests. Such sofas are relevant for a gazebo; in rainy weather and the cold season, the pillows can be removed.

A corner sofa is a godsend for a large family and a small space. It creates an atmosphere of comfort in any room - be it an apartment or a gazebo. Thanks to the large seating area, it can serve as both a bed and a resting place for a large company.

Selection of materials

To achieve reliability and durability of the product, you need to take a responsible approach to the choice of materials. A beginner should not opt for complex drawings and expensive materials. For a beginner in this business, it is better to use fibreboard or particle board, birch plywood and softwood timber. Before work, you need to prepare bolts, screws, nails, padding polyester (P = 150 g/dm), batting, foam rubber (2-4 cm), furniture fabric, wooden legs (5 cm), and a mechanism for lifting the structure. The fabric and foam rubber must be fixed using special adhesives.

In order for the product to last for several years, it is necessary to use self-tapping screws for fastening. Nails will not be able to stay in sheets of chipboard or fiberboard for long; over time, they will become loose and fall out. The adhesive can be used only after the master is convinced of the accuracy of the assembly.

If non-laminated boards are used in the work, then they need to be coated on top with a special varnish.

Tools:

  • hand saw with a simple miter box;
  • electric drill;
  • high-quality stapler;
  • sewing machine;
  • sharp knife to cut foam rubber;
  • the simplest wort.

If you can’t make a cut at home, you can order it.

Immutable Models

To install a corner sofa in a room, you must follow all the nuances. As a result of improper placement, the shape, space and visual appearance of the room can suffer.

One of the main mistakes when installing a sofa is the wrong location and, as a result, the wrong angle. It should be noted that it is impossible to independently change the angle of a fixed factory model. As a result of purchasing a sofa with an incorrect angle, it is necessary to resort to rearranging the surrounding pieces of furniture. To avoid this problem, you can initially plan the space of the room and order a product with the desired angle.

An excellent option would be a corner sofa for the living room, bedroom and even children's room with equal sides. As a result of installation in any corner, the sofa will look harmonious. The disadvantage of such models is their bulkiness.

Tools for reducing and strengthening the frame

To reduce the size of an old corner sofa and turn it into a cozy kitchen corner, you will need the following tools:

  1. Grinder or hand saw with fine teeth.
  2. Respirator and eye protection.
  3. Pencil and ruler.
  4. Screws and screwdriver.
  5. Chipboard sheet (approx. 16 mm).

You need to reduce the dimensions by cutting out the middle part. This will help reduce the risk of errors and imbalance of structural elements. Having applied the markings in accordance with the drawing of the new product, you need to turn on the grinder and carefully cut the frame.

Important: if the old corner sofa was equipped with legs, it will be comfortable to work with. The wheel legs should be dismantled in advance, and the frame should be raised using stools to a convenient height. It is recommended to immediately move it to the kitchen and do the work there.

When the old frame is divided into parts, you need to cut strips from chipboard and attach them using a screwdriver. They will completely cover the middle part and make the bottom durable. The back of the sofa is reduced in the same way to balance the structure. But sometimes you can’t do this with armrests due to the peculiarities of their design. In this case, you will have to do without them. Replacing the legs with lower or higher ones and installing metal wheels is the final part of the work.
