Ergonomics studies the movements of the human body during work and the objects in contact with it.

Scientists have calculated every millimeter of space in which we live and entered this information into regulatory documents. For example, the passage between furniture in an apartment should be at least 90 cm. This distance will ensure convenience and safety of movement. Of course, objects can be placed closer, but then, most likely, a person will touch them when walking.

Anthropometry studies human dimensions: height, weight, leg length. Everything that surrounds us adapts to the received data. For example, the height of the step should be 15 cm. If it is higher or lower, the person will feel discomfort.

Who can be an applicant for certification of furniture products?

The applicant in the case of certification, which is carried out for a series of products according to schemes 1 and 2, has the right to be only an individual entrepreneur officially registered in the territory of a country - a member of the Customs Union, or another legal entity that is: - a manufacturer of furniture products; - performer of the functions of a foreign manufacturer (if there is an official agreement with him), namely in terms of ensuring full compliance of the supplied goods with the requirements of TR CU 025/2012, as well as in terms of liability for non-compliance of these products.

If certification is carried out for a batch of products according to scheme 3 c, an individual entrepreneur or other legal entity is subject to all of the above requirements, but at the same time he can be: - a manufacturer; — supplier (seller); - performer of the functions of a foreign manufacturer (if there is an official agreement with him), namely in terms of ensuring full compliance of the supplied goods with the requirements of TR CU 025/2012, as well as in terms of liability for non-compliance of these products.

Ergonomic furniture for children

Knowing the basic parameters of the child, parents will select comfortable furniture for him. Ergonomics will tell you what height the bedside table and bed should be, and anthropometry will “place” them at a safe distance from each other.

The problem is that the regulatory documents with the dimensions of ergonomic children's furniture were drawn up in the 60s and do not take into account modern realities. There are reissues, but their content remains almost unchanged. In addition, in Russia there is no single document that would collect all the information. Modern manufacturers often manufacture products based on their own documents, marking them by age. But it is not clear to parents whether the chair will be comfortable for their three-year-old child, even though it says +3 on the package.

Based on my experience as an architect, I studied all the regulatory documents on children's furniture that I could find and compiled two tables.

They included the dimensions of the main pieces of furniture for children from birth to 11 years: table, chair, bed, wardrobe, pictures (posters/mirrors), shelves, stands and racks. The indicators are taken as average. If the child’s height is between two columns, it is recommended to choose a larger one.

Bed

The beds in the table are presented in accordance with the Montessori method, so there is no standard cradle with bars. The dimensions of the floor mattress are indicated for a child's height up to 100 cm, but this is only a recommendation. If desired, the mattress can be used at an older age.

The length of a bed for a child over three years old is 120 cm. But if parents lie next to their child before going to bed, it makes sense to take a closer look at a model with a length of 200 cm.

Closet

In the table you will find cabinets in accordance with the Montessori method, but taking into account the proposals of modern manufacturers.

For heights of 101–145 cm, you can take a larger wardrobe relative to the picture in the table, make two drawers at the bottom instead of one, three shelves on the side for folded things and one on top for storing seasonal clothes.

Chair

Children's chairs in a Montessori environment come in three types:

For children from six months to one and a half years old, a chair with armrests is suitable, which will prevent them from falling to the sides. It is heavier than usual, which will help prevent it from tipping over.

After one and a half years, you can offer a classic chair and stool for changing clothes and shoes. And for a meal at an adult table - a growing chair. Its design is safe and allows children to climb on and off the chair themselves.

Sink and toilet stands

Sinks and toilets in the table have a certain height. These are averages of what the market offers. If the dimensions of your plumbing fixtures are different, adjustments will need to be made. I suggest using the following formulas.

For the toilet:

Stand height = (toilet height + lining height) - length of shin with foot to knee

If you are using a trim with a raised front, the height should be measured at its highest point.

For the sink:

Stand height = sink height - floor to standing elbow height

In some columns of the table there is a note “not required” - this means that the child has grown to an “adult level” and he no longer needs the item.

Decorating a chair

The depth of the chair and table are also important indicators. The seat should not be too long. When the student rests on the backrest, make sure it does not press into the hamstrings. The tabletop, on the contrary, should not be short. All educational supplies should fit on it without any problems.

Required materials and tools

To create a children's chair with your own hands, you will need various materials that can be easily purchased in the construction department:

• planks and bars for making a seat, frame and back;
• self-tapping screws that will fasten the parts together;
• medium-hard sandpaper.

When making at home, it is better to use natural materials. Plastic chairs are significantly inferior to them in terms of performance properties and other important characteristics. Firstly, they do not have high strength. Secondly, their safety for children has not been experimentally proven. Natural wood is expensive, but such children's furniture is environmentally friendly and absolutely safe for health. Beneficial properties are retained even after complete processing. The following types are preferred:

1. Pine. This is a budget option. The antiseptic properties of wood are valued. The finished product is easy to paint. The disadvantages include the fact that if not properly cared for, the chair and table can swell and crack.
2. Beech. Its qualities are similar to oak. Easily restored if minor damage occurs on the surface.

MDF does not emit hazardous resins during operation. The material is quite durable, the average service life is 10 years (provided that nothing is dropped or hit on the surface). Therefore, when deciding to make a children’s highchair with your own hands, it is better to refuse MDF. Moreover, the cost of the finished product is only slightly lower than that of solid wood models.

Plywood is an environmentally friendly and safe material. It can be easily processed even with very fine processing, and is characterized by its low cost compared to natural wood and its long service life. The disadvantages include a limited range of applications.

Chipboard has a low cost. Disadvantages include increased flexibility and the presence of formaldehyde resins in the composition. It is not recommended to make children's furniture from such raw materials - allergic reactions may occur to it.

How to change the height of your desk

If it happens that the study furniture turns out to be too low or high, for example, you made a mistake when buying it or the child simply grew up, this needs to be corrected.

The sizes of children's beds are regulated by state standards. There are 4 groups in total, in which age is considered the most important characteristic. Furniture dimensions according to GOST:

1. For children under 3 years old, the recommended dimensions of beds are: width - 0.6 m, length - at least 1.2 m. The height of the sides should be no higher than 0.95 m, otherwise it will be uncomfortable to lay the child down. Most models have lattice walls. The acceptable distance between the rods is 7.5 cm.

4. For children over 10 years old, the minimum product dimensions are 0.9 x 1.8 m with a height of at least 0.5 m. These parameters are also typical for adult single products.

The moment a child moves from one category to another indicates the need to replace the bed with a larger model. The figures indicated are standard, but average, and therefore do not suit absolutely everyone. Tall children need atypical beds. To independently determine the appropriate length, just add 35–50 cm to your height.

Technical description for a group of similar furniture or for a specific product, which must contain the following information: name of the furniture product (or group of products); functional purpose and designation of products; description of the product design; general view drawings of the product indicating functional and overall dimensions. 3. All available test reports (research) of furniture products carried out by the manufacturer, accredited testing laboratories, or a person performing the functions of a foreign manufacturer. 4. Supply agreement (contract) and/or invoice (exclusively for scheme 3c). 5. When confirming the conformity of furniture products using scheme 2c, a certificate for the manufacturer’s quality management system will be required, in the case where this system applies to design and production, or only the production of goods.

As additional information, the certification body has the right to request: - existing certificates for products issued by foreign certification bodies (if any); - other official documents directly or indirectly confirming the safety and quality of furniture products (if any).
