One of the main elements in the bedroom is the bed. How pleasant it is to greet the morning in a cozy environment and how sweet it is to fall asleep on a comfortable bed in the evening! The stores offer a huge selection of furniture for every taste, size and style. But you can make a bed with your own hands. This will become the main decoration and source of pride in your bedroom.
A round bed would be an excellent option. It will fit harmoniously into any room interior, as it can be placed in a corner or in the center of the room. A round bed created with your own hands will cost much less than one purchased in a store. We will study the scope of work in detail in the given article.
We purchase material
Creating a bed with your own hands will allow you not only to save money, but also to show your design skills and give free rein to your imagination. To get started, you need to purchase the necessary materials and tools. Prepare the workplace so that there is enough space for the work process.
For the bed we will need:
- Two sheets of plywood 15 mm thick and 1.5 m long.
- Fiberboard sheets.
- Wooden boards.
- Wooden blocks with a section of 50 by 50 mm.
- Metal corners for connection.
- Foam rubber is at least 20 mm thick, but not very thick either.
- Bed frame upholstery material.
- Lace.
Required tools:
- Self-tapping screws for wood.
- Decorative nails.
- Jigsaw.
- Screwdriver.
- Tape measure and construction pencil.
- Furniture stapler.
- Hammer.
When purchasing wooden boards, pay attention to the moisture content of the material. This figure should not exceed 12%. Visually assess the quality of the material - it should be without damage. All wood must be treated with a preservative.
What linen is suitable for a round bed?
In fact, the range of bedding for a round bed offered by manufacturers is more meager than for standard models. However, there is a choice. In addition, you can always use the services of an atelier. Another option is to use a standard double bedding set, lowering the corners to hang freely along the body, it will turn out quite original!
The most suitable fabrics for bedding are cotton, satin and silk.
Cotton is wear-resistant, hygroscopic, warms in winter and cools in summer.
Satin is also based on cotton thread, but its surface is smoother. Withstands up to four hundred washes.
Silk – if natural silk is used, then this is an exquisite and luxurious bed linen that caresses the body.
Not every manufacturer makes mattresses for round beds. And their price, on average, is 15-20% higher than usual.
When purchasing a round bed, consider the size of the bed. Try to stick to standards. For round bed mattresses they are:
- children's – 200-210 cm;
- single – 220 cm;
- double -230-240 cm.
Bed frame
Everything necessary has been purchased, the workplace has been prepared. To better understand the essence of the work, you need to draw up a plan and a working drawing on how to make a round bed with your own hands. The work algorithm consists of several stages. The first step is to make the base of the future bed.
Using a cord and a pencil, draw semicircles with a radius of 1 meter on plywood sheets. Then we follow the drawn lines with a jigsaw and get our semicircles. Now, using bars, we will fasten two pieces of plywood. We assemble two crosspieces from wooden blocks. We fasten one with metal corners, which are fixed with self-tapping screws. Then we turn the plywood over and place it on the second cross. We attach it to the beams in a similar way.
To make the base of the bed stable, we attach additional ribs and legs made of wooden beams along the edge of the plywood using self-tapping screws. So you have created a round bed frame with your own hands.
Sequence of making a round bed with your own hands
So, the work begins by marking a circle with a diameter of 2 m or two semicircles on plywood. To do this, use a cord that is fixed in the center of the plywood. Next, the plywood is sawn along the contour outlined with a cord.

At the next stage, a cross is assembled under the circle. The work is performed in such a way that geometrically the circle of diameter appears to be crossed out by two perpendicular lines. The crosspieces are mounted in 2 pieces: one is attached under the bed, and the second on the floor. The crosspieces are assembled using corners, and the plywood base is fastened to the upper crosspiece using screws through and through.

Long bars are fixed together with corners.
Legs (9 pieces, 300 mm long) are cut from the same timber, connecting the crosspieces to each other. The legs are attached using corners: one is mounted in the center, and the rest - along the radius.
Then 8 more small legs (400 mm long) are cut out, which are evenly distributed around the perimeter and mounted with self-tapping screws. They are pulled together by stiffening ribs and firmly attracted by the corners. For a tighter fit to the large legs, the stiffening ribs are filed at an angle of 22.5 degrees .
To determine this angle, a miter box is used. It is also possible to use a simple protractor, known from school, to measure the angle.
Decorating the bed
To hide the rough base of the frame, we cover it with fiberboard so that there is a small protrusion of 4 cm. We connect the hardboard with the legs. The result should be a cylinder.
Then we start working with foam rubber. We cut out the foam rubber with a small margin of 5-10 cm. This margin will be used for bending the material and attaching it to the base with a construction stapler. The upholstery material is laid over the foam rubber and secured using a similar method.
We lay out the pre-ordered mattress, pillows and blanket. That's all. I made this round bed with my own hands.
Choosing a round bed for the bedroom
The finished interior of any bedroom with a round bed will look great. Especially if your room is made in one of the listed styles: hi-tech, loft, minimalism, etc. However, if you are choosing a bed for your bedroom in country, Provence or classic style, be extremely careful. Perhaps in this case it is worth abandoning the purchase in favor of rectangular shapes, so as not to upset the balance of the interior.
The first thing to think about is the location and, based on this, choose a model. However, this choice greatly depends on the size of the room. For example, if the size of the room allows, place the bed in the center of the room; simple, laconic models are suitable for this purpose. You can attach a dome with a translucent canopy to the ceiling, and you will have the most romantic bedroom ever.
If you are limited in size, then choose more compact folding models.
Today, models are produced with a beveled headboard that fit seamlessly into the corners of rooms, thereby significantly saving space.
Don't think that a round bed is only suitable for an adult bedroom. It also looks great in a children's room. Using a little imagination, you can organize a fairy tale for your child in reality.
It is preferable that all accompanying paraphernalia, furniture and decorative items have rounded shapes, otherwise the bedroom interior will not be solid. The walls can be decorated with spherical lamps, mirrors, panels, a round carpet can be laid on the floor, and small furniture can be placed: a bedside table, poufs or a table. It is important that all decorative attributes match the shape of the bed and match the overall style of the room.
Additional design
In addition to the fact that the bed will be round, you can decorate and design it in an original way to suit your taste. You can make additional drawers for bedding in the bed frame. You can make a round hanging bed with your own hands. To do this you will need to purchase additional material:

We fix the bed in four or six places using fastenings. We connect chains or ropes and hang them from the ceiling clamp. Hanging beds are mainly used for relaxation, not for sleeping. Preparing the tools
Since it is impossible to make a round spring mattress at home, you will have to order it from a workshop. And we will do the rest using:
- Jigsaw. Files are needed for wood.
- Screwdriver. The bat is a regular cross.
- Roulettes.
- Furniture stapler.
- Hammer.
- A pencil.
- Lace 1000 mm long.
The length of a regular bed is 2000 mm. It should be enough for a person of average height, even taking into account the pillow, while others can place a stool at their feet. Our bed will be round, that is, two meters in diameter. We order a mattress and start making a frame for it.
Bed design options
After the round bed is ready, you can add some finishing touches. You can make the headboard of a round bed, which will add some charm and sophistication to the furniture, or upholster the base and headboard with leatherette and decorate the design with decorative nails. You can attach furniture casters to the legs of the bed to make it convenient to move. This is how you can design a family round double bed with your own hands.
Furniture can be made in royal style. Add carved columns and hang an openwork canopy. In the same style it is worth ordering many small pillows and a bedspread. So that your bed actually looks like a royal one.

Create a bed in 2 hours
A round bed is an unusual, but by no means unique piece of furniture. It's easier to build a frame for a purchased mattress rather than buy one. If you have the tools, this project should take no more than two hours.
- Place the round mattress on top of a sheet of strong plywood (35 mm) so that no part of it overlaps it.
- Using a pencil, draw a circle on the plywood along the contour.
- Cut a circle of plywood along the line you drew.
- Cut the boards (38mm) so that each is approximately three quarters the diameter of the circle.
- Sand the face of the plywood. You can sand the other edges if you want, but it's not necessary.
- Stain or apply a finish at this stage if you plan to paint the frame.
- Join the two boards together in an L shape, positioning them flush, using two screws and angles.
- Repeat step 7 with 2 other boards. You can also make a radial frame, positioning it from the center.
- When creating the frame, use a drill slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws.
- Center the board frame on the underside of the plywood.
- Trace the outline with a pencil.
- Drill inspection holes.
- Place the plywood on top of the frame where it will lie.
- Attach the bed base to the frame.
- Complete your bedroom design by adding draperies, interesting wallpaper or decorative lamps to the wall.
