DIY double bed with carriage frame. Part II.

Where did the name come from?

In fact, it is a tracing paper from the German “zarge”, which literally translates as “frame”. The drawer is a horizontal bar that connects the legs of a sofa, chair or other pieces of furniture. Main functions: strengthening the frame, ensuring the reliability of fasteners, supporting the mattress and guaranteeing comfortable use of the product.

If we are talking about beds, then the drawers connect the headboard and footboard. Their main task is to give the frame the necessary rigidity and stability, and securely fix the remaining structural elements.

Where are drawers used?

Beds, sofas, doors. They are located transversely, designed to connect vertical posts to each other. They can be located in the upper or lower part of the structure, acting as a strapping for the frame.

Tables, chairs and other furniture with four legs. The drawers serve as a frame made of bars or boards for reliable fastening of the support.

Panel furniture. Provide structural rigidity. Unlike previous options, they are wider and more massive boards. In addition to functionality, they serve an aesthetic role.

Number of connecting elements

The bed can have from two to four such elements. It all depends on the presence of a footboard or headboard, as well as the number of backrests. Some designs lack both a headboard and a footboard (we are talking about a simple frame for a mattress).

Bed drawers and manufacturing materials

The raw materials from which drawers are made directly affects the service life of the product. The main materials from which bed frames are made are:

  • solid natural wood;
  • thick plywood (including painted, veneered, laminated and plasticized);
  • Chipboard (including laminated chipboard, painted, plasticized and veneered);
  • MDF (core can be made of natural wood, but not necessarily);
  • metal (aluminium, stainless steel, brass, bronze and so on).

If we are talking about upholstered furniture, then the drawers are additionally covered with finishing material to prevent damage. In all other cases, upholstery is not provided.

When choosing furniture, you should also pay attention to the height of the bed frame. If it is located too low, the upper part of the structure will wobble. Typically, the height of the drawer is determined as close as possible to the top of the rear legs and in the center of the front legs - this position is considered optimal.

Valufix - what is it?

Women love to wear heels and high platforms, without realizing how much stress they put on their legs. Shoes with heels not only make the figure more refined and refined, but also force the feet to remain in an unusual state for a long time. Deviation from physiology adversely affects the condition of the foot, resulting in problems in the form of bone deformation. As women age, a large protruding bone appears in the area of the big toe. This problem can also occur in older people.

A deformed bone interferes with a full life and causes a lot of inconvenience. The growth on the leg causes severe pain and interferes with walking. It becomes almost impossible to buy comfortable shoes, because the bone on the foot does not fit into the shoe, gets in the way and puts pressure.

Most often, the problem that arises is resolved promptly. But any kind of intervention in the body has its negative consequences, so people are trying to find a non-surgical solution. The way out of this uncomfortable situation is the Valufix retainer.

In the absence of necessary treatment, the deformed bone grows rapidly and the appearance of the leg changes. Previously, with an advanced form of deviation, it was necessary to resort to surgical intervention, but now a different solution has appeared. The Valufix fixation splint will help restore the bone to its former appearance and relieve pain.

When wearing the Valufix retainer, the patient does not experience discomfort or pain. A valgus splint keeps the toe and foot in a natural position, thanks to which a person not only gets rid of unpleasant sensations, but also increases performance.

Main problems

The most common problem is loosening of the fasteners on the bed frame, which is mounted to the headboard (the mattress is held on it). Fixing the problem is not difficult - just tighten the loose screws.

You can do it differently by strengthening the structure with corners. This method is used in cases where the screws have significantly destroyed the wood and cannot be tightened. The advantages of corners are that they have several holes on each side: this increases the chances of securely fastening elements to entire areas.

The situation is worse when the bed frames are broken. You can make them yourself if you have carpentry skills and the right tools. If there is neither one nor the other, you will have to contact a specialized workshop.

In which furniture elements is it present?

What is a drawer in furniture? Any rectangular product has in its design a connecting part located between the tabletop and legs. In furniture such as a table or chair, it is the most important element and is installed around the entire perimeter. A bed, for example, includes only three such elements, installed at the head of the bed, and also fastened together. In this case, they have another purpose, which is to hold the mattress. Many manufacturers upholster the drawer with all sorts of materials. For a sofa, this part is installed at the bottom of the product and connects the armrests to each other, after which it is upholstered with fabric.

The materials from which the drawer is made are:

  • chipboard;
  • solid wood;
  • plywood.

In the chair it is also located at the bottom of the structure and fastens the armrests together.

Interior door

The door frame is used to provide increased strength. It consists of two strips - vertical and horizontal. The materials most often used for its manufacture are:

  • coniferous wood;
  • fibreboard.

The internal part connecting the planks to each other can be made of any material, and also represents a simple decorative insert.

A larger number of strips provides the highest level of rigidity at the door. To make the door look more complete, its cladding is made from:

  • laminate;
  • veneer;
  • PVC coverings.

The advantages of a drawer in an interior door include:

  • increased level of reliability and strength;
  • convenient element-by-element installation, as well as subsequent repairs;
  • absence of seams on elements such as cladding and joints;
  • an appearance that looks attractive.

When replacing some elements, the appearance of the door changes.
This option is perfect for those who are constantly updating the design of their premises, and also trying to save money when changing the interior.

But such designs have certain disadvantages, such as a low level of safety, as well as a large mass.

That is why for those who want to install a lightweight door, it is better to choose fiberboard slabs, but a small number of disadvantages are easily compensated by the advantages described above.

In a piece of furniture such as a table, it is the most important connecting part that holds the tabletop and legs together. The table drawer is installed around the perimeter of the product in the amount of four pieces.

Attention! Not every table model has a drawer, since not all have four legs and it is not always necessary to establish a connection between them.

The fastening strip is present only on classic wooden tables .
The tsar table is stronger and more reliable.
This element is located under the tabletop and connects the legs of the product to each other; in addition, there may be an additional part that is located on the lower part. It is called “legging”. Fastening the drawer to the tabletop provides additional reliability and stability of the product.

For a chair, as for a table, it has an important connecting task, and can also be installed in two places at the same time. One of them is located at the top of the structure, while the others are located below and are called prongs.

Sofa

What is the side of a sofa? First of all, it is an important component of the design and is located at the bottom of the product. In addition to connecting the armrests together, it is responsible for the reliability of the structure. Most often it is covered with the same type of fabric that is used for upholstery. The height of the drawer can reach 30 cm, but the length reaches 190 cm.

Bed

The bed frames are connected to each other, as well as to the headboard, ensuring the reliability of the entire structure. They are upholstered with any materials or fabrics, and are also responsible for holding the mattress. The bed has three such elements.

What is a cabinet drawer and why is it needed? In such an element of furniture, it is responsible for the rigidity of the entire structure; it is present where there are long spans with shelves. It is installed in the rear part of the structure and has a vertical location. It connects the stand and the side of the cabinet. Can also be present with the chefflot, maintaining an even position. A shelf is a retractable drawer that is located in a closet.

Attention! The absence of a drawer in this design will result in the cabinet being skewed. Many manufacturers are trying to save money and reduce the cost of their product in this way. In the store this defect is not noticeable, but as soon as the closet is filled with things at home, it will appear.

Prices for the drawer

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:

To finish the bed elements, we selected materials from the VINYLKO online store.
In this store we already had to buy artificial leather to make a cover for an electronic piano (not my job, I have difficulty sewing), and even then we were amazed at the variety of options, and quite affordable ones at that. We then spent a lot of time in their hall, since choosing from five fabrics of the same shade is quick, but choosing from dozens of options is a real problem. The following materials were selected and ordered on the website vinylko.ru:

  • 1. Eco-leather TASKANA Milk (7 linear meters)
  • Despite all the variety, our choice was limited by a specific color (milk) and price. Based on parameters, availability and low price, this option was selected. The leather is really pleasant to the touch, very soft, stretchy, which was very useful when covering the bed frames, but caused a lot of problems for the carriage screed, given the fact that the leather is a bit thin.

  • 2. Foam rubber ST2536-40mm (sheets 1x2m) – 3 pcs.
  • 3. Foam rubber ST2236-10mm (sheet 1.6*2m) – 1 pc. (in fact, they shipped 15mm, since there was no 10mm in stock)
  • 4. Adhesive for ViKo Bond foam rubber (1 liter) – 1 pc.

  • Delivery to my city was made by a transport company.

  • 5. In addition to these materials, a mold for making buttons was purchased: 1PC/ One #16-60 Fabric Covered Button Mold Tool Mold Press Die Assembly Tool For Round Bread Shape Top Button Diy Free Shipping
  • 6. And also a set of buttons with steel eye (100 pcs.): 100pcs Sets/lot #16-60 DIY handmade fabric buttons Bread Shape Round Fabric Covered Cloth Button Cover Metal 4 Back Buttons 13s The size of the mold and buttons was chosen "32 " (19.2 mm)
  • 7. Also, a polypropylene cord and a long sailing needle were purchased from a local store:

DIY making

Most craftsmen independently undertake the manufacture of such simple furniture elements as stools or even tables, the design of which is not complicated or labor-intensive. It is only important to remember that each element must be manufactured correctly. To make a stool, you will need to make four drawers.

Advice!

If you use hardwood during manufacturing, you can achieve a longer service life of the product.

The size of each part depends on the expected size of the product itself, so it is very important to know what length and width your stool will be.

Dimensions

For ergonomic reasons, the dimensions of a double bed bed are recommended to be 2 m long and 1.6 m wide. They can be increased to 2.4x2 m if desired; it is difficult to do even more using conventional technological methods and construction materials.

A standard single bed is 1.9-2 m long and 0.9 m wide. On this occasion, people of normal build can fit two people. If there is not enough space, the width can be reduced to that of a carriage shelf - 550 mm. But at the same time, there must be a side rail even at the bed for adults.

The height of the surface of the bed (at the top of the mattress) is within 350-500 mm, depending on the height and build of the owner. The upper limit is better suited for those whose lower leg is longer than their thigh, and vice versa. Fashionable “Japanese” beds with a height of 220-260 mm are just fashion. The thickness of the layer of greatest dust content in the air in the room is 200-300 mm from the floor. Therefore, children's and teenagers' beds should also be of an adult overall height; the smallest ones need to be stepped up for convenience.

The height of the bed is distributed as follows: 180-300 mm - mattress, 150-200 mm - drawers, the rest - under-bed space. It may turn out to be close to 0. In this case, you need to make a bed with drawers: without ventilation from underneath, the bed will soon suffocate, begin to exude miasma, or even become sticky to the touch. The minimum height of the under-bed space is 80 mm.

What is a tsarga

This value assumes a structural component of almost every existing furniture. With its help, the legs and the main part of the device are connected. In addition, the presented element serves as a support. Its fastening can be done in various ways. The list includes various ties, bolts, and tenon joints.

To make sure you understand the full significance of the product, you can give a simple example. Let's say the master will attach the supporting component directly to the tabletop. Thus, two products will not ensure reliability in the structure, but, on the contrary, instability. To prevent this, there is a frame described that allows the connection to be made properly.

Bed drawer - element characteristics

Speaking about the qualities inherent in a piece, it is important to emphasize that they are different for each piece of furniture. Therefore, let's look at each aspect in detail:

  1. For beds, sofas and similar devices, the drawer ensures that the vertical posts interact with each other. Thus, the structure can be represented in the form of crossbars that are oriented in a horizontal position.
  2. In products consisting of four or more legs, for example, chairs, tables, the component is represented in a different image. That is, we can say that this is a frame made of boards or wooden beams. It provides maximum strength and creates support.
  3. In panel furniture, this is most often a panel, and a large and heavy one at that.
  4. For doors. This increases strength and ease of installation. In addition, seams at the joints of parts are eliminated.

CHOOSE YOUR DREAM BED

Let's continue talking about dream bedrooms. We already know how to draw a bedroom plan and what layout options there are, we know how to place a bed correctly and how much space is needed for passage in the room.

And today we’ll talk in detail only about beds: what they are, what materials they are made from, what parts they consist of, and why the size of the mattress is important when choosing the bed of your dreams.

The bed, after the table, is probably the most important piece of furniture in the house for me. In my life I have “slept” on sofas, so when the opportunity arose to rest exclusively in bed, I did not doubt for a second that it would be so, period!

A big dream bed with the best mattress in the world, covered with a beautiful bedspread is the dream of each of us!

Only once in my life did I come across customers who wanted to put a sofa in a separate bedroom... Imagine! How much effort did it take me to persuade them not to do this... “dear mom” - but then they said thank you /

So let's get back to the beds!

A bed (from the Greek κρεβάτι [beds]) is a piece of furniture designed for sleeping when a person is lying down. The bed is usually located in the bedroom, where it forms the basis of this functional area of the home. Wikipedia.

What are they? DIFFERENT and divide them according to the following criteria:

Firstly, in terms of functionality

The beds are all divided into special ones and for individual use. We are not interested in special ones now (for example, for hospitals) - we are only talking about household use, those for dream houses :).

Antique beds – have a height of 90 -100 cm

! so if you love antiques, try to be attentive :))) Why is it so important to know the comfortable height of the bed for yourself.

First, the appearance of the bed is very different between low modern and high American traditional beds. All other furniture in the room must be selected to match the chosen bed - one hundred percent.

The height of the bed is the comfort of its use. Today, many people love low beds, and often choose them precisely because of their design and beauty...

The drawer drawer is an important element of any furniture

Furniture production is a labor-intensive and responsible process in which the role of each structural element is important. One of them is the drawer, which is little known to most - this is the main element of furniture that contributes to the reliability of the table, chair, sofa and even stool. What is this element?

According to its design features, the drawer is a connecting part on which the reliability and strength of bolts and ties depends. In addition, it is a support for any furniture attribute. Let's look at a simple example: a chair consists of a table top and legs. But they are not attached to each other, but to a connecting board, which ensures that the legs do not wobble and stand stably, holding the tabletop. That is, the drawer is the simplest connecting element that holds the entire structure together.

Which pieces of furniture have drawers?

Any rectangular structure (be it a table, chair, stool) requires fastening the legs to the tabletop. For example, in a table and chair, the drawer is an important element, and there are four of them: one along the entire perimeter of the structure. The bed has three drawers, which are fastened together and with the head of the bed. Their main purpose is also that a mattress is placed on this frame. In some models of beds, the drawers may be upholstered with fabric or other material.

In sofas, the drawer is mounted under the seat, and it also fastens the armrests. As a rule, it is covered with the same fabric as the entire sofa. On average, the height of a sofa drawer reaches 30 cm with a maximum length of 190 cm (these indicators depend on the design features of each specific sofa). As for the material, chipboard, plywood or solid wood species can be used. In the chair, the drawer is also located under the seat and attached to the armrests, while its height has a maximum of 30 cm and a width of no more than 80 cm.

Interior doors: drawers are an important element

In this case, the drawer is a transverse crossbar with which the door leaf is connected. This element contributes to the strength and reliability of the door frame structure. At the same time, the drawer itself is made of laminated solid coniferous wood and MDF. The peculiarity of the door leaf is that it has a facing coating without joints and cracks, and the combination of coniferous timber and MDF ensures that the door will last much longer and more reliably.

We build it ourselves

Probably, many craftsmen are capable of making furniture with their own hands, for example, simple stools or tables for the garden. There is nothing complicated in the process, the main thing is to take care of every detail. For example, making a drawer with your own hands is very simple.

To create a stool you will need four of them. It is best to make these frames from hardwood - this way they will last much longer. The dimensions of the workpiece depend on the length and width of the stool. The frames need to be planed and milled if the bars need to be given a certain shape. The ends of the drawer can be cut at a certain angle - this depends on the design features of the stool. The products will be attached to the legs at a certain angle, which must be taken into account during assembly. After preparing all the components, you can begin gluing the structure.

Making a bed: step-by-step instructions with illustrations

Legith, a member of the “Home and Cottage” forum, decided to make a bed for his child - from materials left over from construction, with a small amount of metal elements in the structure. To begin with, he calculated the dimensions of the bed based on the dimensions of the existing mattresses: length - 190 cm, width - 82 cm. He chose the height of the legs to his taste, planned the front headboard to be 80 cm high, the back - 60 cm.

The creation of the legith bed began with the legs. Since there was no block of the required cross-section, I decided to glue the legs together. To begin with, I cut the bars: 8 pieces 850 mm long and the same number - 650 mm, with a cross-section of 35x35 mm (it is possible without gluing: bars of the same length, but with the required cross-section). Then I glued two legs from four bars, and the other two from two (with PVA glue D2, preferably D3).

We make drawer drawers from floor boards: side drawers – 2050 mm long, transverse – 900 mm. We cut off the tenon and groove with a circular saw, and remove the longitudinal ventilation grooves with a thicknesser (or a plane).

We glue the dried halves into full legs. After the glue has dried, use a thicknesser to level the side surfaces of the workpieces.

Blanks for legs and drawers must be made with a margin of length.

Legith adjusted the blanks to the final length: two legs 800 mm each and two legs 600 mm each. At the ends of the blanks I marked the bottom. I also cut the drawers to the required length: two the width of the bed, taking into account two 30 mm tenons. As a result, the transverse drawers were 880 mm, and the longitudinal drawers were 1960 mm.

The next stage is cutting grooves in the legs and tenons on the sides using a hand router with a straight groove cutter. To make tenons at the ends of the drawers, legith placed their blanks on the table in pairs and, having aligned them well at the end, fastened them together and to the table with clamps.

I also attached two bars to the sides, flush with the workpieces, so that the parallel fence or the sole of the router would not slide to the edges. The master removed 5 mm from the sides, 20 mm from the bottom and top. He set the parallel stop to the length of the tenon (30 mm), the cutter overhang to 5 and 20 mm.

When making tenons, having set the parallel stop to the desired size, it is advisable not to touch it until the work is completed. The offset of the cutter can be changed.

We make grooves in the legs for the tenons: measure the thickness and width of the tenon with a caliper, mark it on the leg, reducing the size by 1 mm. Next, you need to install and press two small bars across the leg with clamps (they limit the router’s travel along the length of the groove) and then set the parallel stop.

Let's start choosing a groove. The depth of the legith groove was slightly greater than the length of the tenon. If you do not have a cutter of the required diameter, select a groove in two passes along the width. When aligning the cutter with the edges of the groove, do not forget that its widest part is the cutting edge.

To ensure that the tenons fit into the grooves, we round their corners with a coarse grinding machine belt. We insert the tenon of the drawer into the groove of the leg.

In order not to make markings along the length on each workpiece, I placed the next workpiece under the Legith limit bars (this is why the marks for the bottom of the legs are needed) and milled a groove for the second drawer.

The forum member made the headboards from ready-made furniture panels: he cut them into blanks with a circular saw (the length is equal to the distance between the posts plus 5 cm on both sides of the backboard for tenons), gave the blanks the required shape and selected the tenons.

In the racks I chose a groove for the tenons of the backs, and processed the upper edge with a shaped cutter. After I sanded everything, I put all the components of the backs on glue, compressed them with clamps and left them to dry.

We are finalizing the side drawers. Since Legith wanted to attach the bars for the crossbars to the dovetail frames, he ran the required cutter along the long edges of the bar, selected a straight groove in the frame (the width is equal to the narrow part of the dovetail on the bar) and ran the cutter along its edges.

We insert the block into the groove of the drawer; you can screw it with self-tapping screws. Then we insert the drawers into the grooves of the backrests and, to make the bed collapsible, we put the connection on self-tapping screws. We cut planks or finished bars along the width of the bed, process them and put them in place. The bed is ready!

Legith made a built-in wardrobe for the bed and two bedside tables for the bedroom: one assembled on dowels, the second on a dovetail joint. Product dimensions: height – 650 mm, width and depth – 500 mm. Door dimensions - 450x400 mm, lid - 550x600 mm.
