Practical and original: corner chest of drawers for the bedroom

Advantages and disadvantages

The corners of apartments are often left empty, but this is useful space. Properly furnished corners give the room a special coziness. A corner chest of drawers is a great way to use the space of a small home and add a fresh touch to the interior. The internal filling of this piece of furniture is used for storing things, on top - decorative items, framed photos, indoor plants or a TV. The latter option is often used for bedrooms.

The advantages of this furniture are as follows:

  • originality;
  • multifunctionality;
  • maximum use of usable space;
  • spaciousness with modest external dimensions;
  • variety of options;
  • the ability to choose an option for any room.

Of course, such a piece of furniture is not as spacious as its classic counterpart. However, it can fit a lot of things, despite the fact that from the outside it looks small and compact.

Apart from its spaciousness, it has fewer disadvantages than a regular chest of drawers. The standard version takes up living space, the corner version does not. The regular one has corners on the outside, which is dangerous, especially if there are small children. The hero of the article may not have external corners at all - semicircular, triangular options. Or there are only blunt ones on the outside, less dangerous - a five-walled option.

The only thing is that such a chest of drawers can complicate cleaning. The corners of the room are a constant collection of dust; the presence of furniture will not allow you to get close with a vacuum cleaner or mop. However, the chest of drawers is corner, not so bulky, which means it can be easily moved away if necessary.

Features of corner chests of drawers

You shouldn’t leave the corners of the room empty - it’s better to fill the usable area with a chest of drawers. It will give the room additional comfort and space for convenient storage.

pros

Purchasing this type of furniture is a reasonable and rational decision. You can use it to make both a TV stand and a stand for vases with flowers.

Benefits include:

  • originality;
  • multifunctionality;
  • maximum use of usable space;
  • capacity;
  • variety of options;
  • the ability to choose for any room;
  • does not occupy living space.

The chest of drawers can be conveniently installed in almost any corner of the apartment due to the variety of designs and environmental friendliness of the product.

Minuses

It has fewer disadvantages than the classic version. The most important of them is that such a design can complicate cleaning, because corners in an apartment are a common place for dust and dirt to collect, and a vacuum cleaner cannot always reach them.

It will also not be possible to install large-sized products on a piece of furniture. The surface can only be used to place small items.

The bulkiness of this option can complicate installation in a room, since it is necessary to carefully select the product according to the style and characteristics of the room.

Manufacturing materials

The most common material for making chests of drawers in the corner is wood and fiberboards. Not everyone can afford a solid wood product; the second option is the most common and acceptable. As for the fittings - handles, fasteners, decorative elements - the classic version is represented by metal.

Interesting options for combining wood with glass. Side sections with shelves can be closed with glass doors. A corner chest of drawers, made in hi-tech or other ultra-modern styles, may have glass or metal parts in addition to fittings and doors.

Chests of drawers are made of plastic for the bathroom. They withstand high humidity and temperature well, and are resistant to the formation of fungus and mold. They are easy to wash and clean.

There are unusual design solutions. For example, facades upholstered in soft fabric, elements made from materials unusual for creating furniture, stone, and the inclusion of unusual decorative details. Designers create chests of drawers from vintage suitcases, decorated with lace, paper and even newspaper sheets.

Generally speaking, a chest of drawers is an object of traditional interiors, therefore it is found mainly in classic materials: wood or wood boards. It is not always permissible to call the remaining options a chest of drawers in the usual sense.

How to monitor the condition of your chest of drawers

Caring for a chest of drawers is no different from caring for any other furniture made of similar material.

Since modern chests of drawers for the bedroom and living room are made of wood, chipboard, and plastic, the rules for caring for different products will differ.

  • Wooden furniture does not tolerate moisture and high temperatures. Therefore, a chest of drawers made of solid wood is placed at a distance of 1 m from the nearest heater. Do not place wet cups or hot plates on its surface. The wood is regularly wiped with a slightly damp and then a dry cloth. The varnished surface is periodically treated with polish or lemon juice.

Sanded wood treated with oil is cleaned in the same way. Periodically, such furniture is opened with wax or special oil.

  • Products made from MDF protect against moisture and temperature in the same way as wood. MDF is wiped with dry flannel or cloth; difficult stains are removed with a soap solution. Do not use hard brushes or abrasive cleaners.
  • Glass and mirror are wiped with a dry soft cloth and washed periodically using a glass cleaner. Do not use materials with abrasive fibers, as they damage the surface. Do not place hot dishes on glass or mirror shelves. If such a need arises, use napkins and towels.
  • Metal elements, if any, are wiped with soft sponges and rags. You can use gel cleaners.
  • Plastic, as well as acrylic panels, can be cleaned with water and mild detergents. Compositions with abrasive particles cannot be used. In fact, plastic is the easiest to clean, as it does not absorb dirt and dyes.
  • the leather trim with a soft damp cloth or vacuum cleaner. Stain removers are excluded.

Form and filling

A chest of drawers in the corner has many different shapes (see photo selection). General - the back sides are located at an angle of 90 degrees to each other. The corner itself may not exist, or only the tabletop fills the space. There are plenty of options. The filling depends on the shape of the chest of drawers:

  • pentagonal - the most common, spacious option. It usually looks like this: two rear walls at right angles, the facade is represented by three walls. The central part is filled with drawers, on the sides there are opening doors or small open shelves. The boxes are in no way inferior to the classic ones in terms of capacity. The presence of shelves on the sides creates additional storage options;
  • triangular - this form of corner chest of drawers is less common than the previous one. It fits tightly to the wall and has no corners on the front part. Less functional and roomy than a five-walled one. The filling is represented by drawers in the center, side shelves, drawers alone, opening doors or open shelves;
  • semicircular - not an option for all styles. The semicircular has several variations. First: a rounded tabletop, the chest of drawers itself is made in the form of a pentagon, triangle or trapezoid. This type is convenient because the dimensions of the tabletop and the base do not match, as a result, free space remains, which means that it is comfortable to sit at the chest of drawers, as at a table. The second option has rounded side sections. There are open shelves for small items, with drawers in the center;
  • radius - differs from the previous type in that it is made in the form of a segment of a circle. It has a rounded tabletop and facade. The filling is different - from linen drawers to open shelves or hinged doors;
  • trapezoidal - this type does not have a right angle at the back, it is cut off. From the facade, the design looks like a triangular chest of drawers. The contents are standard – drawers plus side shelves;
  • round - such a chest of drawers cannot be called purely corner; it can be placed anywhere. As you can see in the photo, this is the most unusual option. The design has the shape of a cylinder. Drawers and shelves, of course, are also semicircular. It looks pretty good in the corner of the room;
  • g-shaped - an unusual option, it does not “cut off” the corner, but, on the contrary, emphasizes it. Unlike other options, it does not save much space. It looks original, but is not suitable for every interior. The drawers, in order not to interfere with each other, can be pulled out not strictly forward, but to the side, at an angle. Or alternate in a checkerboard pattern: first on one side, then on the other.

Whatever corner chest of drawers you choose, it always looks much more unusual and interesting than the classic version.

Ease of use

In French, commode means “comfortable.” And this title fully justifies.

  • The shape and size of the chest of drawers vary widely. Wide, narrow, long, tall - there are models reaching a height of up to 160 cm, in a wide variety of shapes and configurations. With such a variety, you can always find the best option for a corner chest of drawers for a bedroom of any size and any proportions.
  • Usable area - the dimensional parameters of the chest of drawers practically do not affect the size of the usable area. In addition, drawers, unlike shelves, can be filled to the very top, but this does not affect the conditions for storing things.
  • Location - the corner module uses the “wasted” area in the room with maximum benefit: it provides a convenient storage method and creates an ergonomic interior.
  • Configuration of drawers – another convenient thing about this piece of furniture is that the drawers can have different sizes. Deep drawers are formed for bed linen and blankets in the corner chest of drawers, and wider and narrower ones for personal items. For a variety of small things there are corner chests of drawers and narrow, and long, and tiny square ones. A chest of drawers is the best way to keep things in a certain order.

Texture and color

In the manufacture of chests of drawers for the corner, the texture of wood predominates. There are a great many variations of it, so you can choose one for every taste, for almost any style. Artificially aged chests of drawers are popular. This option is suitable for furnishings with neoclassical, vintage, Victorian, as well as country or Provence styles. In the latter case, objects of milky white and other light shades with elements of aging are used. Wooden textures are characterized by both classic colors such as wenge, pear, ash, and non-standard solutions in bright shades.

High-tech styles and minimalism are distinguished by the absence of details and decorative elements. They are characterized by simple shapes and straight lines. Smooth glossy textures that can reflect light are used here. The following colors are popular:

  • metallic silver;
  • grey;
  • lactic;
  • white;
  • beige.

Also any discreet metallic shades. Unusual design solutions for textures are also offered - these are surfaces like granite, marble, onyx, jade, and other stones. In general, the color, texture, appearance can be anything. The main thing is that they are in harmony with other pieces of furniture and are designed in the same style.

What to consider when choosing

When choosing interior items and furniture, you need to approach this matter responsibly. Not only do they all have to match in color. It is equally important that they comply with style features. The style should match the purpose of the room. Thus, a Victorian style is hardly appropriate for a children’s room; a living room cannot always be successfully designed in the Provence style. Without taking these requirements into account, even the most luxurious interior items will look like an absurd, random collection.

A corner chest of drawers is not a small thing, so choosing it should also be a responsible process. Especially if the interior of the room has long been formed. An unsuccessfully chosen option will bring disharmony to the composition.

A chest of drawers is a versatile piece of furniture. Spacious, multifunctional, but also compact, it is suitable for installation in any room, be it an entrance hall, bedroom, living room, children's room, even a kitchen. The only thing that could be more spacious is a closet, but it is too bulky. The chest of drawers in the corner doesn't take up much space at all. However, a chest of drawers for a bedroom and one for a bathroom, for example, are two completely different things. Therefore, when choosing an option for different premises, it is necessary to take into account some factors.

Where else should there be a chest of drawers, if not in the bedroom? This is where we usually store bed linen and other accessories. Therefore, such a classic piece of furniture as a chest of drawers will fit here perfectly. Classic, Provence, vintage, Victorian, neoclassical and others are suitable for the bedroom. The chest of drawers in the corner can be used as a TV stand or serve only its traditional purpose - to store laundry, and cute trinkets on top. A corner chest of drawers with a mirror will also look interesting in the bedroom - it can be used as a dressing table, especially if the tabletop is larger than the base and it is comfortable to sit at it.

The living room, at first glance, may not seem like a very suitable place for a corner chest of drawers. However, if you have only one room, which is a living room, a bedroom and a study, you cannot do without convenient storage for things. Of course, a large room is easily divided into zones, each of which has its own purpose. However, if the sizes are, alas, modest, you will have to squeeze the maximum out of each item. So, a corner chest of drawers here will become not only an alternative to a closet, but, for example, an excellent TV stand. If there is no such need, then family photos placed on the tabletop will look nice in the living room. The style of the chest of drawers for this room can be absolutely anything, including minimalism or hi-tech.

As for other rooms, you can also choose good corner options for them. An artificially aged wooden chest of drawers in the Provence style would look appropriate in the kitchen. However, this is only if the kitchen is large enough. It is hardly appropriate to occupy a small area, especially since there is usually enough space for storing furniture in cabinets.

For a child's room, the most daring, bright options are suitable. It’s great if the chest of drawers has not only drawers for baby clothes, but also open shelves for toys. Soft or glossy textures, bright or pastel colors, as well as rounded corners are appropriate here. A semicircular or radius chest of drawers will come in handy here.

You can put a massive oak chest of drawers for papers in your office. White glossy chest of drawers for bath accessories in the bathroom. In the hallway it would also be appropriate as storage for shoes; it is convenient to leave bags and keys on the tabletop. It is necessary that the chest of drawers, located in the corner, be to the liking of the owners, please the eye, and fulfill its purpose. Before you go shopping, look at the photo selection.
