You will not buy these tables in a store, either in a simple furniture store or in the famous Swedish brand Ikea. These tables are a real creation of a brilliant man of art. One thing is for sure, such tables are even “terrifying” to touch, and even to dine at all.
And, by the way, we really haven’t thought about this before, but in fact, designers place great emphasis not on the table itself, but on its legs, decorating it with stones or making it of an unusual shape. You can look at the table legs and see for yourself that if you buy unusual table legs and a completely ordinary tabletop, you will get a rather unique table.
Things with history

This dining room from the Fiori di Loto collection of the Italian factory Le Fablier is inspired by the style of vintage Scandinavian furniture from the 1930s. The Ekanta extendable table, Kunti chairs, Chakra chair and Gaia chest of drawers are made of solid oak.

The new Lebeau table from the Cassina brand was invented by designer Patrick Juan in 2021 and became a conceptual continuation of the 2003 collection of the same name. The innovation of this model is the use of solid thermowood for the manufacture of twenty-two vertical elements of the table base and fastening parts.

Danish company Brdr. Krüger produces an unusual table, TRIIIO, or rather, it is a whole trio of tables, identical in design, but different in size. Their sketch was first created in 1958 by the Danish architect Hans Bölling, but in the wake of the popularity of the aesthetics of those years, the original and playful design again attracted attention. The photo shows a dining table on oak legs.
Functional innovations
Many modern apartments cannot boast of a large area, so the versatility of any piece of furniture is definitely welcome. Transformers are a “hybrid” of an office, coffee and kitchen table. Some models can even turn into a whole set with two chairs.
Interesting models:
- With a "hood". Above the tabletop you can raise a kind of semicircular “dome” made of individual thin planks. The backlit “hood” allows you to privacy and concentrate on work, providing close to ideal sound insulation.
- With room for a pet. This can be a separate shelf, upholstered in soft material, where a dog or cat can lie, or a whole house on which a tabletop is installed.
- Department. The height of the table can be changed, this allows you to ideally adjust the model to your height and work while sitting or standing.
- "Winter Garden". A box with soil is built into the frame; you can plant your favorite plants there or just a green lawn pleasing to the eye. Sometimes even lighting is provided, because the table cannot always be placed in such a way as to provide the “garden” with enough natural light.
- "Aquarium". The idea is the same as in the previous paragraph. The aquarium and everything necessary for its operation and maintenance are built into the frame. The side walls are transparent, and on top there is a tabletop, usually made of wood. At such a table you can eat and work.
Sometimes transformers demonstrate the wonders of portability. A lightweight aluminum table can “hide” in a cabinet, cabinet or suitcase. When disassembled, the entire structure is a complete set with chairs and racks for documents. An equally original transformer is a “mobile office” made from foam blocks (table, chairs, shelves and lighting).

Classic tables

This is what ceremonial dining tables looked like in the interiors of Tuscan palaces of the 18th century. Today, only a few Italian factories have remained committed to the classics and the special Florentine style of wood carving. One of them is Roberto Giovannini, and this Ducale table can be found in the Armonie collection.

The classic dining table from the Florentine factory Silvano Grifoni has a rectangular table top, which is decorated around the perimeter, and carved legs. Painting with a patina and gilding effect was chosen as the finishing touch.

For connoisseurs of truly luxurious classic interiors, there is the reputable company Francesco Molon, which offers many furniture masterpieces. One of them is the dining room from the Classic collection, presented in 2021.
Original geometric shapes
Classic kitchen tables are designs with four legs and a tabletop. Models for work are complemented by drawers and cabinets, but generally look the same. For many interior styles, especially modern ones, you can choose much more interesting options:
- A product with an unusual geometric shape. Such a table is already an exclusive work of art. An example is the unique Nebbessa model, which resembles two drops of water - a larger one and a smaller one. This table has no drawers or shelves, just a lacquered surface, but the large size of the tabletop partly compensates for this. Smooth, stylish shapes will fit into most modern design interiors.
- Model-musical instrument. For those who wanted to learn to play something, but never made their dream come true, there are very unusual tables stylized as a piano, guitar, violin, or harp. The material used is natural wood, so they are distinguished by their presentability and durability.
- Table-car. A great option for any man. It can be placed in an office or library. The front part resembles a bumper, the table top resembles a hood.
- The “ghost” table. An amazingly beautiful “illusion”, as if a transparent, matte or colored tablecloth is floating in the air. Made from plexiglass or tempered glass. The “corners” of the tablecloth simultaneously serve as almost invisible legs. The model looks very impressive, but you need to remember that it is not very stable and will not withstand heavy loads (kitchen tables can withstand a maximum of 20-25 kg, coffee tables - 5-7 kg).
- "Dripping" table. The idea is similar to the model described above, but it is not a whole tablecloth, but individual “drops” and “streams” flowing from the tabletop, turning into legs. This design looks very elegant, “airy”.
- A table with additional shelves of an unusual configuration. They can be highlighted by texture, color, or photo printing.

“Dripping” table
It’s not just the table itself that changes. Such purely functional details as the frame and legs also become decorative elements. Frames are made of chrome steel, cast iron, aluminum, and plastic, which makes it possible to create a variety of configurations.
The legs, instead of the classic “columns,” become figured, carved, turn into a three-dimensional mosaic, imitate the legs of insects, animal horns, and can be an abstract sculpture or even a statue. Or they are absent altogether, and the table rests on a solid base in the form of a driftwood, stump, crystal, sphere, cube, “soap foam” - the designers’ imagination knows no bounds.
Interesting tables automatically turn into the main accent of the room design. The rest of the interior items should complement them and not draw attention to themselves, otherwise there is a risk of “overloading” the decor.
