Review of furniture, namely wardrobes for clothes, tips for choosing

We purchase furniture and wardrobes, as they are one of the basic components. The ability to keep things in order is a criterion for choosing the optimal piece of furniture for any room where space is allocated for a dressing room. Wardrobes play an equally important role in our lives outside the home. We go to work, visit swimming pools, gyms. The opportunity to change clothes, leave outerwear and personal belongings for storage makes our life much more comfortable and calmer. At the same time, the material from which the furniture body is made is important; the service life of the structure directly depends on its quality.

Purpose and features

The modern design of storage furniture takes into account all the features and needs of the future owner. There is a large selection of furniture on the market and Italy is no longer the only trendsetter in furniture fashion. Designs can be represented by samples of any size:

  • small, compact models, more like a chest of drawers;
  • large, multifunctional with many open shelves and closed sections.

The size of the cabinet is largely determined not only by the design, but also by the material from which it is made. It is very important that the case takes into account the load, not only its own, but also the contents that will be placed inside. Hangers for outerwear, corners for fastening shelves, pull-out mechanisms for drawers of built-in chests of drawers.

  • wardrobe with mirror for the hallway of a large family. Many things that are worn are stored even more until the season. It is logical if solid wood, which is resistant to moisture, is used to make it. Most often this is a three-door model. Sections can be locked. This is doubly true for departments where cases with seasonal clothing are placed;
  • for a sliding wardrobe they choose laminate chipboard and MDF - they are quite durable and more affordable in price than natural wood. This model can fit into a set wall, hiding behind the door shallow chests of drawers with locks for storing personal items and documents. The sliding mechanism requires periodic cleaning. Take care, lubricate, monitor the condition of the guides so that the compartment can always be easily opened;
  • A plastic cabinet is an excellent solution not only for swimming pools, but also for a small office where the owner leaves things for the day. A short rod, a body 40 cm deep allows you to place one set of clothes, shoes, and a bag with an umbrella inside. The design is lightweight, column-type, it can be moved and, if necessary, washed with a soapy solution and a rag. Stylish, with a compact size, it is definitely more advantageous in comparison with traditional cabinets, which can block half of the aisle only in width. In the case when the door opens in a swing type, it can completely block it;
  • a locker for a change of medical clothes or for work uniforms in enterprises, usually made of metal with a lock so that personal items can be locked. Modern lock manufacturers offer both mechanical and electronic options;
  • In playrooms and children's rooms you can find a wardrobe for doll clothes. It is almost like a real one, only smaller in size, to match the height of its owners. Inside you can find hangers, and there may be a small chest of drawers. Such furniture sets are made of chipboard and are suitable in size for children's role-playing games. In a children's room, a doll cabinet is usually equipped with a drawer where the child places toys. Such furniture teaches children to properly care for things, even if they are worn by dolls;
  • you can find a steam cabinet for caring for clothes. Its purpose is not storage, but steam processing of clothes. In such a unit you can “refresh” things that cannot be washed or are too early to wash. Steam varieties in our country are more of a luxury than a necessity. The exception is for owners of valuable wardrobes, where clothes require special care.

The color scheme applied to furniture for various purposes is amazing - from practical gray metallic to bright children's and designer solutions. White models can be found, but economy interiors in Russia rarely choose them. Spectacular wardrobes are quite easily soiled and require constant care.

Varieties

In the production of furniture, wardrobes are divided into several types. Let's start with a classic wardrobe, here we highlight:

  • toiletry case - a small item. Used to store clothes for tomorrow, allowing you to keep the necessary things at hand. An example of this type is the wardrobes in which medical workers store things. They can be made of white plastic to allow regular sanitation;
  • combined cabinets with 3-5 doors. The depth of the cabinet is 50-60 cm. The rod is located along the back wall. There may be another one at the bottom under shirts and trousers;
  • with an end rod - about 40 cm wide. It can be included in a schoolchild’s corner, or installed in a grown-up child’s room to accommodate his uniform.

The photo shows very impressive built-in samples and examples of modern modular models, which are a mobile version of furniture, transformable at the request of the owner. Built-in furniture provides fewer rearrangement options and is suitable for conservative people who like the usual order of things.

Modular

Modular wardrobes are designs that allow you to vary the configuration by rearranging the module compartments. This can be a shallow closet with an end rod or hooks for clothes 40 cm deep. The mobile system can include as many compartments as required. This is a modern and practical solution for a wardrobe for clothes and shoes. The bar can also be located along the rear wall. Such an example will be 60 cm deep and may even contain a small chest of drawers.

A typical example of modular wardrobes for clothes Practitioner. These metal products are installed in the locker room of a medical organization, as well as in production for storing work clothes. Mobile modules allow you to create orderly rows of lockers for the convenience of staff. The cabinet width is about 60 cm, with a depth of 45 cm. Standard end rod and shelf. Such samples are purchased for swimming pools, where there is high air humidity in the premises, which is harmful to wooden furniture. In white colors they look light and not bulky.

Built-in

In modern housing, you want to make the most of every useful centimeter of space. The built-in wardrobe will perfectly adapt the niche for storing things. This could be an entire dressing room based on a built-in compartment.

  • rods for outerwear;
  • with shelves or shelf painted white with acrylic enamel. This will create a feeling of spaciousness and lighter interior content.

Built-in wardrobes for clothes do not have their own walls; they are mounted inside a niche in the form of a false panel and facade. It can be an affordable and modern plastic cabinet or a classic solid wood.

The depth of drawers and shelves is preferably up to 60 cm. A chest of drawers can be equipped inside; a low rod for shirts and trousers is required. The compartment can be opened immediately only if the guide rails are aligned along the wall; otherwise, the sections open variably. Modifications of closets with sections filled with linen allow you to properly organize the space and quickly find things. With white fronts, such cabinets are indistinguishable from the wall.

Hull

Modern cabinet wardrobes do not lose their relevance. The usual wall with a wardrobe, which used to be in almost every family, is gradually being replaced by practical three-door wardrobes in the depths of which most of the family wardrobe is located.

The body can be made of wood, MDF, chipboard. Solid wood is the most expensive option, but it will also last a long time in the apartment. The combined wardrobe contains a section with a rod and a separate section with shelves. A cabinet cabinet may include open shelves along the walls for accessories, hats, and bags. One of the sections may contain a chest of drawers.

Sliding wardrobes for clothes are made with a standard depth of 60 cm. A white copy will look very impressive, but this is not always a good idea if outerwear and children's clothing are to be stored.

Materials for the manufacture of the body and facade

Modern cabinet furniture for storing clothes is made from a variety of materials. Most often used for these purposes:

  • tree;
  • chipboard;
  • MDF;
  • plastic.

Plastic
Traditional wooden wardrobes remain relevant. A solid wood cabinet is an excellent purchase for your home. Beech wardrobes are durable and quite affordable in price compared to options when solid oak wood is used.

A spectacular white plastic cabinet can also decorate the hallway. Its advantage is that plastic is easy to clean.

Chipboard wardrobes can often be found in children's institutions and the Economy furniture sector. These can be low types of wardrobes of toiletries, for storing personal items when the main part is in another closet.

The following materials are most often used to decorate facades:

  • Chipboard is an economical option, characterized by durability, ease of operation and maintenance;
  • a mirror is not a cheap option, which is perfect for visually enlarging space;
  • lakomat - frosted, translucent glass that will perfectly decorate the interior with its appearance;
  • lacobel - glass coated with colored varnish. Most often used for combined facades;
  • sandblasting pattern - applied to decorative glass or mirror;
  • plastic is an excellent budget option, ideal for combined facades;
  • bamboo is a natural material that gives furniture originality;
  • rattan - often used in combination with other materials;
  • decoracrylic is an original material that has absorbed the properties of natural and synthetic materials;
  • artificial leather – such a cabinet is suitable for offices or libraries;
  • photo printing – for this design you can choose any drawing or photo.

The design of the cabinet facade most often refers to the decorative finishing of the doors. Exclusive designer cabinets delight with a non-standard approach - the doors can display engravings, stained glass, mosaics and sandblasted mirror finishes. Unusual solutions allow you to design, for example, Italian wardrobes. As a rule, this is a white body, imitating a tree bleached on the seashore, on which a pastoral photo with landscapes in the Provence style is applied.

A plastic cabinet can be decorated with colored films or panels painted in the paste. The schoolchild's corner is decorated with photo prints of favorite cartoon and comic characters and decorations for the child's hobbies.

An open cabinet can have decor at the ends of the shelves. These can be chamfered edges or simply rendered in a contrasting color. To add visual depth, the back wall of the shelves can be painted in a contrasting color.

Design options

Most often, the central element in the room is the closet, so it should harmoniously resonate with the rest of the interior. Combination of furniture and main design trends:

  1. Modern styles - minimalism, hi-tech, modern, loft - laconic, restrained, preferring simple solutions, without decoration, with clear symmetry. Cabinets with a smooth glossy or mirror surface are suitable for such an interior. The facade can be one-color or two-color, complemented by fittings made of plastic or chromed metal.
  2. Provence. A closet in this style should be neat and bright. The facades are solid or glass. Curved legs, threads, and forged handles are required.
  3. Country. The style prefers solid wood products. The cabinet should be unpainted, natural, so that the grain of the wood is visible. You can supplement the front surface with glass inserts or milling.

Tips for choosing and placing a narrow cabinet, the advantages of furniture

It is customary to decorate the facades of modern cabinets. For mirror and glass surfaces, sandblasting patterns or photo printing are suitable. You can choose drawings of various styles and directions. They are easy to apply and the finished surfaces are easy to maintain.

Another option for decorating facades is half-timbered timber. It imitates the design of houses made using the same technology. Most often used on mirrored models or cabinets for children's rooms. Designer painting is suitable for a façade made of any material. The main thing is to choose the right colors and come up with a design option. So, from a typical, unremarkable product you can create a unique piece of furniture.

Form and style

There is a wide variety of design solutions in terms of style and shape when you need to give your cabinet an attractive look. At the same time, we must not forget that, first of all, this is a storage system that allows you to keep your clothes in order. For a dressing room, a low cabinet can be useful as a component, which you will use as a toiletry case or as a chest of drawers. The classic Italian wardrobe is made of solid wood, designed in natural shades and equipped with hinged doors. There is a rod placed inside to provide space for everyday clothes, and on top there is a shelf for hats and boxes.

As for the shapes, cabinets can be different:

  • linear;
  • corner.

Linear

Angular
Angular ones, in turn, are also divided into types:

  • triangular;
  • trapezoidal;
  • g-shaped;
  • n-shaped;
  • radius.

L-shaped

U-shaped

Trapezoidal

Radial

Triangular
But the classification does not end there, since radius models may differ in shape:

  • concave;
  • convex;
  • wavy;
  • combined.

Concave

A convex
white straight cabinet in the Provence style will look great in a country house. Solid wood will emphasize the solidity of the product and its traditional orientation.

Most often, this trend is characterized by a classic three-leaf cabinet with legs, which has doors that open wide. This design is typical of traditional Italian design with minimal internal content in the form of wooden shelves and hanging.

Designers adapt large four-door wardrobes with a sliding compartment door mechanism to the popular “rustic” style. Small additions turn a functional piece of furniture into a stylish solution. Additional shelves and roll-out storage systems are mounted inside the case using corners, making it possible to use most of the “dead” zones. The modern roll-out design allows you to supplement the usual cabinet with shelves, rods and other necessary modules that make the most of the interior space. And all this is hidden behind the elegantly simple façade of Provence.

When it's time to go to school, furniture for schoolchildren takes the place of the doll's wardrobe. Often this is modular furniture, allowing you to equip a compact travel bag for storing children's things. To make it convenient and safe for your child to use the locker, choose a low wooden option. Plastic models may have an unusual facade, originally designed by the designer. For a child, a storage closet is often included in the student's corner. This could be a plastic cabinet, or a chipboard structure with two hinged doors, or a narrow cabinet with a column for clothes, where you can hang a couple of sets. Sliding doors are not a good idea as there is a risk of children getting their fingers caught. It is good to have a shallow shelf left open to accommodate small items.

For a low toiletry case, a mirror module can be used as a stylish addition, which will not only functionally complement the dressing room, but also make the room visually brighter.

The plastic version of the locker for medical staff is often similar to what is offered to pool users. Medical furniture is set by standard requirements for maintaining sanitation and the ability to treat plastic surfaces with cleaning agents. The same requirements apply to furniture in the pool, where lockers in locker rooms are regularly sanitized. Often these are low, with minimal filling and compact size clothing samples, medium in depth, which allows you to place a spare set of clothes, shoes and leave a bag for storage.

From the history of the closet

Did you know that the ancestor of the modern wardrobe was the chest? In addition to storing clothes, it performed a number of other functions - people sat on it, slept on it, and took it with them on the road. Having undergone a series of transformations, it first stood on the end, then acquired swing doors, several doors, and finally acquired the appearance familiar to us.

Since the 18th century, the wardrobe has become an independent piece of furniture. It is made from valuable wood species and decorated with carvings, inlays, and mirrors.

Nowadays, functionality again comes first - modern people have so much clothing that capacious and mobile storage systems that save living space as much as possible are becoming relevant.

Filling

A wardrobe must first and foremost be efficient. The contents placed in the cabinet play a major role in internal ergonomics. It would seem that there is a size here. This is not true. Standard huge samples can actually turn out to be bulky and confusing.

For a closet, it is important to properly organize the interior space.

  • for storing outerwear, high rods;
  • low rods for shirts and jackets;
  • with shelves for clothes and linen made of knitwear;
  • equipped with shelves, a wardrobe with drawers will allow you to properly place underwear, bedding and clothes that are put away before the current season.

Wardrobes have different depths. In the photo, the end rod in a 40 cm deep model may look quite appropriate. Low will be a great help for placing trousers. The minimum depth should allow you to place things without crushing them. Standard rods along the back wall imply a depth of 60 cm, the same parameter is typical for drawers, if it is a chest of drawers. The second rod is placed in closets at a height of about 90 cm; it is used for shortened items of clothing - skirts, blouses, shirts.

Four-door wardrobes impress with their large dimensions and the prospect of storing a large amount of clothing. However, it is the four-leaf wardrobe, made in standard configurations, that may turn out to be a useless acquisition, despite the fame of the Italian furniture makers who made it. The idea that Italian furniture is a priori of high quality from the point of view of its functional component is not entirely correct. Here, too, you need to carefully choose models with sliding and hinged doors. A minimal set of rods and shelves can be complemented with a pull-out module with additional drawers for accessories or a small chest of drawers.

Another irreplaceable filling element is a clothes trunk. This is a thick, voluminous case. This item is intended for storing wrinkled, bulky items, furs - things that should have at least a little free space around them. Cases are made from different materials and, unlike covers, are not intended for transportation. Thanks to the trunks, things don’t get dusty, don’t get twisted, and retain their beautiful appearance. A modern element for a traditional Italian style wardrobe, characterized by a crossbar and an upper shelf for boxes and hats. Stylish fabric trunks can be made from combined materials. The soft top with a zipper, combined with a tougher cover, allows you to care for particularly delicate items of clothing. The trunks are open, suspended from the crossbar, like large soft bags into which clothes are dropped by weight. A stylish fabric trunk can turn into a real closet decoration. Some models feature unusual finishes typical of exclusive designer offerings.

The main filling elements are often used:

  • numerous shelves - divided into standard and retractable;
  • drawers - can be of completely different sizes, intended both for storing bulky items and for accessories. Can be regular or full extension;
  • mesh for shoes is a very convenient element of the storage system;
  • mesh drawers - thanks to rollers, the elements roll out and are therefore very convenient for storing clothes;
  • retractable hanger, or pantograph. Can be lowered and raised if necessary. Used to place things in the upper tier of the wardrobe. The retractable mechanism is effortless and easy to operate, making it easier for the owner to find a seasonal wardrobe.
  • roll-out built-in chest of drawers. The lower part of the wardrobe is already involved here. This is an ideal find for small lingerie and accessories.

Pieces of clothing furniture have become indispensable components of family closets. An effective storage system, equipped with retractable and roll-out structures, allows you to make the most of space and rationally use the space inside. The quality of filling directly affects the quality of storage of things. Fur put away in trunks will not be deformed; formal dresses and suits that are not intended for frequent cleaning will remain unharmed by dust.

A wide range of materials allows you to choose a set to suit the style of any interior. Whether straight or angular, it can be made from either traditional solid wood or modern plastic. Design solutions will satisfy the most complex requests.

A separate topic is considered furniture for linen used in locker rooms of sports and recreational organizations, as well as in industrial premises. Here the resistance of the material to external influences and the ability to preserve things left inside come to the fore.

Built-in mini wardrobes

The only difference between a full-fledged dressing room and a built-in one is the absence of a dressing area with a dressing table due to the insufficiently large size of the structure. Mini-wardrobes are conventionally divided into 5 types, the definition of which depends on the features of the arrangement of the internal space of the piece of furniture. Types of cabinets used as mini-wardrobes:

  • cabinet or rack mini-wardrobe rooms;
  • corner built-in wardrobes;
  • modular systems;
  • dressing rooms, the interior of which is decorated in a loft style;
  • panel mini-wardrobes.
