What are bedside tables for?
A magazine to read, a table lamp, a clock, a telephone, medicines, cosmetics and other necessary little things - all this can be placed in the bedside module. It’s also convenient to keep towels and bed linen here.
Compact cabinets, equipped with drawers or shelves, are designed to perform not only a practical task, but also an aesthetic one. They are often used if you need to create a symmetrical composition or balance the space.
In furniture showrooms today you can find a wide variety of bedside tables, differing in configuration, design, and size. The variety of models simplifies the choice of the appropriate option.
But for small bedrooms, suspended structures are most suitable.
What criteria should you use to choose bookcases and shelving for your home?
Choosing a suitable book storage system is not as simple as it might seem at first glance. It is necessary to take into account the dimensions of the cabinet or rack, design features, materials for manufacturing, style and location of the intended placement. We will consider these nuances.
Bookcase dimensions are critical
Design dimensions
Before buying a book storage system, you need to decide on its dimensions, which depend on the size of the room in which it will be installed. One of the most important parameters is the depth of the shelves, determined by the number of rows of volumes placed. It is recommended to arrange books in one row, as this makes them easier to find and use. The average depth of open sections is 200-250 mm, and the distance between shelves is 250 mm, which corresponds to the height of most modern books.
If your library has books of non-standard sizes, then you can purchase several cabinets with a depth of up to 350 mm and a height between shelves of up to 380 mm. To prevent the shelf from sagging under the weight of books, its thickness must be at least 25 mm, and its length must not exceed 1,000 mm. For non-standard books, you can order an original design from a furniture factory or from a small specialized company.

Materials for making book storage systems
A variety of materials are used to make book storage systems. The most expensive or exclusive models are made from natural wood or veneered material. Bookcases for offices and home libraries, made of oak, birch, light pink beech, mahogany, ash, cherry or walnut, are distinguished by an expensive and aesthetic appearance, as well as high performance characteristics. Products made from natural wood can be given almost any shape and decorated with amazing carvings. Wooden bookcases are an ideal option for interiors in classic styles.

Advantages and disadvantages of suspended modules
Hanging nightstands for the bedroom have a number of advantages:
- Large capacity. Even a small module can accommodate all those items that should always be nearby - a phone, a lamp, tablets, a glass of water, etc.
- Aesthetics. Unusual looking furniture will fit into any interior style.
- Compactness. Small dimensions save space.
- Easy to care for. Dirt does not accumulate under the suspended structure, and dust is removed from it in two minutes.
- Ergonomics.
There are several disadvantages to such furniture:
- Once placed, it will be more difficult to change anything in the room.
- If not secured correctly, the product may break off and fall.
Corner walls
A modern corner modular wall is indispensable for small rooms, as it does not clutter up the space. It is more compact, but at the same time roomy; with its help it is easier to arrange offices, children's rooms, and small living rooms.

Thanks to the ability to transform the configuration, this is an ideal option for those who like to change their living space.
When choosing modular furniture with corner elements, it is important to maintain balance and select cabinets and shelves based on the proportions of the room.
Device Features
The main difference between all hanging cabinets is the installation method. The module is mounted on the wall using furniture hinges or a mounting strip, adding airiness and lightness to the atmosphere.
- A bedroom with such furniture looks visually more spacious.
- Hanging models are designed in the same way as floor-standing ones.
- The difference is the absence of legs.
And, of course, the back wall of such furniture must be flat and fit snugly against the wall.
Placements
Shelves as furnishings not only serve as a place to place various items, but also perform a decorative function: they fill empty spaces on the wall above the sofa, chest of drawers, cabinet, TV.
In large rooms, paintings, clocks or panels are used for this. In small rooms, it is more rational to use shelves - both the wall is decorated and things are in place.
Particular attention should be paid to the shelves in the television area. Those products that are located above the screen should not be too wide. You can put small watches, souvenir figurines, and family photos on them.
The shelves in the living room under the TV can be filled with a lot of useful things. The photos presented contain interesting examples of equipment, books, vases and other decorative elements.
Varieties
Designers identify the following types of hanging bedside tables for the bedroom:
- Square. Square-shaped modules are practical, functional, and appropriate in any type of room. Usually complemented by ergonomic drawers.
- Round. Such models have an interesting appearance. They are suitable for high-tech and modern trends.
- Angular. Such furniture is an ideal choice in conditions of limited space.
Customers are also offered products of non-standard configuration. They fit organically into rooms decorated in a loft style.
Manufacturing materials
Wall-mounted bedside tables today perform:
- Made from solid wood;
- From chipboard;
- Made of plastic;
- From MDF.
Wooden structures are highly aesthetic, durable, environmentally friendly, durable, and tactilely pleasant. Their main disadvantage is their high cost.
- Products made from chipboard are the most affordable.
- However, it is worth remembering that they do not last long.
- In addition, they cannot be called completely safe (there is a risk of releasing harmful substances).
- Therefore, before paying for your purchase, you need to ask the seller for documents on the material to check its quality.
- The permissible emission level of chipboard is E0 or E2.
Plastic cabinets can also be classified as economy class furniture. Their advantages are light weight, ease of care, and a wide selection of colors and textures. Disadvantages: low strength properties and short service life.
Mounted modules made of MDF are easy to use, resistant to deformation, resistant to ultraviolet radiation, as well as thermal and humidity influences.
To improve performance and appearance, the front parts of the cabinets can be coated with varnish, enamel, veneer or polyvinyl chloride film. Leather or textiles are sometimes used for the same purpose.
Tips for choosing
A hanging kitchen can't be cheap. If its cost is comparable to a regular MDF set, it will not last long.
Materials and fittings for a floating kitchen should not only be reliable, but also as light as possible. After all, the less load on the wall mounts, the longer they will last.
Frame
The frame of lower cabinets is usually made of natural wood or its derivatives. The most common options:
- Laminated chipboard (it is advisable to choose moisture resistant);
- MDF;
- HDF (a denser and stronger analogue of MDF. The wood is ground into dust and, using adhesives, pressed into a monolithic slab);
- natural array.
Each option has both advantages and disadvantages. Laminated chipboard is cheaper than other materials, but less strong and durable. Its moisture resistance and fire safety indicators are also lower than those of other materials.
MDF and HDF have better performance than laminated chipboards, but due to the high density of the sheet, such cases are heavier. The cost of such a modular kitchen will be 20–30% more expensive than if implemented in laminated chipboard.
When working with natural solid wood, everything is determined by the selected type of wood. This affects all indicators:
- price;
- mass;
- moisture resistance;
- density;
- fire resistance.
Due to the high cost of making boxes, elite types of wood are rarely chosen. In most cases, the frame is made of pine or birch, and more valuable ash, oak, alder, etc. are chosen for the facades.
It is also worth taking into account the quality of processing. Under-dried wood may become damaged over time, etc.
For laminated chipboards, MDF and HDF, the issue of quality is also relevant. Poorly applied lamination may swell, an unimpregnated sheet may swell, etc. The thickness of the sheet also plays a role; it cannot be less than 16–18 mm, otherwise the fasteners will simply be torn out of the back and bottom walls.
Facades
To lighten the weight of the structure as much as possible, the front part of the set is made of thinner sheets (or boards). Typically, the thickness of the facade does not exceed 8–12 mm. The range of possible materials in this case is somewhat wider:
- MDF and HDF. The most common option. Popular because of the good price-quality ratio. The distribution is also influenced by the wide choice of possible color and finishing options (lamination, veneer, plastic, eco-veneer);
- Chipboard. Used in budget models;
- plywood. Used for individual styles (loft, etc.), or as a more affordable analogue of natural wood;
- array. Despite its durability and high quality, this material is rarely found in wall-hung kitchens. The reason for this is the rather high price. The cost of a linear meter of a suspended system with facades made of natural wood starts from 120,000 rubles, provided the frame is made of MDF, and from 150,000 rubles. on a solid solid box;
- glass. This finishing option also cannot be classified as budget. At the same time, the weight of the glass is quite large (it is not used too thin due to the high fragility of the material). Glass facades look very stylish, they are resistant to moisture and temperature changes, are not susceptible to mold and are easy to clean, but due to their high price and weight, they are less common than wood materials;
- aluminum. All-aluminum facades have a unique design, so they are not widely used. More often you can find a tandem of aluminum with glass or other materials.
Due to the large mass, they try not to use stone veneer. For the same reason, only certain facades are made of glass (if they are made), and aluminum in most cases is used only for finishing the edges.
Tabletop
When choosing a material for a countertop, it is important to maintain a balance between its weight and performance characteristics.
It is clear that a work surface made of natural oak or granite can serve for decades, remaining in its original form. But such a design will weigh tens, and with a large area, hundreds of kilograms. Not every fastener and wall can withstand such a load.
You can replace a natural array with lighter analogues:
- Chipboard. This design will not be very durable, but the cost of such a tabletop is relatively low. By changing it every 5–10 years, you can quickly and inexpensively update your kitchen interior;
- MDF and HDF. They can be covered with dense lamination, plastic or natural veneer. The most commonly used options are those with moisture-resistant impregnation. With proper care, such a countertop can last 10–20 years without losing its original appearance.
As for natural stone, there is also an easier and more affordable replacement for it:
- fake diamond. Most often you can find countertops made of quartz agglomerate. In this case, the base is the same MDF board, which is covered with polymer materials with quartz chips. The appearance of such a countertop is practically indistinguishable from stone, while it has practically no limitations in shape and design. The monolithic structure is inert to moisture, fungus and household chemicals (non-aggressive). A countertop made of quartz agglomerate can serve for decades without losing its properties, however, in case of mechanical damage, it is very difficult to restore it;
- stone veneer. The only difference between this countertop is that the MDF board is covered not with artificial stone, but with a thin cut of natural stone. The performance characteristics are almost the same, but there are more design restrictions.
Tabletops made from massive natural materials are used only if the hanging set is installed between two load-bearing walls. For greater reliability, this design, in addition to standard fasteners, is fixed using longitudinal profiles mounted in the walls.
Designs and options of cabinets and cabinets
In floating kitchens, both drawers and hinged doors are used - the main thing is that the load on all fastening points is distributed evenly.
Hanging lower cabinets are designed for storing larger utensils intended for cooking: pots, baking pans, frying pans, etc. Therefore, the boxes for them should be spacious enough.
As an option, you can make some modules with hinged doors - for storing larger dishes, and some with pull-out doors - for more compact items.
It is advisable, before ordering a set, to distribute all available utensils and equipment to the intended places. And order the sizes of individual modules and boxes for specific items. In this case, it is necessary to take into account not only personal comfort, but also the expected mass of objects. Heavy objects should be distributed evenly without overloading individual modules.
Thinking through the final layout can be considered one of the most important stages of a kitchen renovation. It is on such a design project that the convenience and functionality of the kitchen will ultimately depend.
Accessories
The design of handles and decorative strips does not affect the functionality of wall-mounted kitchen cabinets. The main thing is that the fittings you like fit the overall style of the kitchen and are quite comfortable.
In the case of an L- or U-shaped set, everything is a little more complicated. It is necessary to ensure that the selected fittings in the corners of the kitchen do not interfere with the opening of adjacent drawers and doors. If you choose the wrong handles, they can hit or scratch nearby facades.
The best solution in this case would be facades with hidden fittings.
A kitchen without handles looks very stylish and modern. The drawers are fastened in such a way that they open with a light pressure on the facade.
But there is no reverse without an obverse; the disadvantages of hidden fittings include the rather high cost and faster wear of the facades (regular touching with wet and dirty hands does not benefit them).
Nuances with technology
They try not to hang the refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine. The slight vibrations they create during operation gradually loosen the fasteners, which can lead to unpleasant consequences.
Typically, such equipment is placed on a separate wall, and if the kitchen area does not allow this, it is permanently placed in the corners. In this case, the large refrigerator is perceived as a free-standing element and does not interfere with the overall impression of a light, airy kitchen.
It is permissible to integrate relatively small equipment into suspended modules:
- oven;
- microwave;
- hob;
- compact single-compartment refrigerator (wine, etc.).
It is also worth considering that built-in equipment will require additional cooling. Therefore, even before installation, you need to carefully consider the location of the ventilation grilles.
Design solutions
When choosing furniture, it is recommended to focus, among other things, on its appearance. When purchasing, it is important to consider the style direction in which the bedroom is furnished.
- Minimalism. Hanging products in this style are especially suitable for large rooms with good natural light. White hanging cabinets in a bedroom furnished in a minimalist style make the interior airy and light, and the absence of abundant decor helps reduce costs.
- High tech. The direction is characterized by a minimum of decorative elements. Typically, modules in this style have a metal frame and various chrome parts as decoration.
- Classic design. Classic fits perfectly into any type of room. Classic bedside tables are most often made of natural wood. Antique-styled, they are in perfect harmony with the rest of the furniture.
- Country. Hanging products in this style are distinguished by their simple appearance and rough texture. The wood base here is usually complemented by bulky metal elements. Such models are created for spacious bedrooms.
- Provence. A bedroom in the style of a French province looks extremely comfortable. Furniture is used exclusively from light wood. The cabinets must be harmoniously combined with other pieces of furniture. Preferred colors for facades are white and beige.
- Modern. The direction makes it possible to use furniture of original shapes.
Designs made from combined materials, for example, wood, steel and glass, are suitable for such a room.
- The hanging bedside table benefits from its non-standard appearance, ease of cleaning, and compact size.
- When choosing it for the bedroom, you should decide in advance on the mounting location, because later it will not be possible to change anything.
Model classification
For the living room, wall cabinets have become so widely used that today the furniture market offers hundreds of models. You can choose any one depending on the intended location, desired configuration, facade, method of opening doors, etc. When choosing a cabinet, you should definitely take into account the existing interior of the living room.
By placement method
Often the living room is a walk-through room, so you need to use imagination and certain skills to fit furniture into the available space and satisfy aesthetic tastes. Initially, you need to decide on the placement method. Wall cabinets are:
- Horizontal. They are standard bedside tables, which are usually made as a solid block along the wall, sometimes placed chaotically.
- Vertical. They are represented by direct modules, but are practically never found in their pure form. Usually they are diluted with horizontal sections.
- Linear. This type refers to a modular design located on one wall. May consist of vertical and horizontal sections.
- Angular. In some layouts where there is not one completely free wall, such a system will fit well. It allows you to make good use of unoccupied space in the room.
The term “corner” sometimes refers to vertical and horizontal sections that create one continuous structure.

By type of design
Many people love hanging cabinets because of their versatility. Depending on the type of structure, they can be:
- Open. These are furniture options that do not have doors. They almost never have any practical use, but they do a great job of brightening up closed cabinets. Usually they have only a decorative effect. They contain books, vases, souvenirs, etc.
- Closed. These are functional structures with doors. They usually have several shelves for storing things that should always be at hand.
- Combined. The most interesting option for hanging furniture. Combines open and closed sections. They will fit perfectly anywhere, while adding aesthetics, and all small things can be put away in the closet.
Each type of structure can be vertical, horizontal, or angular. When choosing, it is not advisable to use only closed cabinets. Although they have modern shapes and colors, the effect of the same Soviet “wall” can be obtained.

Combined Open
By type of door
Despite the fact that with the help of hanging cabinets, designers primarily strive to create a modern living room interior, functionality should also be present. Module opening technologies help with this. Along with the usual options, there are also some unusual ones:
- Swing. One or both doors are secured on the sides with hinges and open by moving them towards you.
- Sliding. Mainly used in horizontal models. They are sashes mounted on guide rails. Access to the internal contents of the cabinet is carried out by moving them left or right.
- On the button. Often door handles only spoil the appearance. For this reason, without sacrificing convenience, some cabinets are equipped with a special unlocking system. When pressed in the place where the handle is traditionally located, a mechanism is activated that slightly opens the sash.
- With remote control. Not the most practical solution - if you need to quickly get something out of the closet, it won’t work. Relevant for families with small children. The disadvantages are that you need to change the batteries on time and not lose the control unit.

It is also worth noting that in horizontal modules, where the door opens upward, clamps are installed that will free your hand from having to hold the door. The most popular of the described options are swing designs, but other varieties also find their admirers on the market.
Along the façade
Wall-mounted sections are not inferior to conventional cabinets in the variety of facades. The most popular are flat and glossy ones, which create a futuristic effect when the room is properly decorated. Conservatives can choose radius, convex shapes of furniture. There are options with all-glass transparent and frosted doors and inserts. To visually expand the space, mirrors are used on the doors. Additionally, LED strips of different colors are installed in the facades of some models, thereby creating the effect of depth. Such lighting is simply indispensable for illuminating a room during evening gatherings in front of the TV or at a romantic dinner.
