Standard standards for chair height, selection of optimal parameters

Drawing up a drawing

The easiest option for the master is to choose a ready-made drawing with a detailed description of each element of the chair. The optimal sizes of furniture are designed for the average height of men (170–175 cm) and women (160–165 cm). In accordance with these parameters, the ideal indicators of each element are calculated:

  • height of the structure to the seat - 40–45 cm;
  • seat depth - 50 cm, width - 40–45 cm;
  • back width - 30–40 cm;
  • the distance from the floor surface to the upper edge of the chair back is 85–90 cm.

The back of the chair is made straight or with a slight slope of 8–12º. Typically, the maximum loads that furniture can withstand do not exceed 100 kg. Drawings with standard dimensions can be used by people with average height and weight. In all other cases, it is necessary to select models that correspond to individual parameters. To do this, you need to sit on the seat and keep your knees at right angles. Then measure the distance from the knee to the hip, from the hip to the neck, which will allow you to clarify the optimal depth and height of the product.

Making chairs is possible only if you have precise parameters. There are other recommendations that allow you to choose the right sizes. A certain person's height corresponds to the specified furniture height:

  • 146–177 cm - 43 cm;
  • 159–188 cm - 46 cm;
  • 174–207 cm - 51 cm.

The most comfortable chair is considered to be one with a back, in which the depth is equal to 2/3 of the length of the thigh. It is in this position that correct posture is maintained. Based on individual parameters, the finished scheme is adjusted. To do this, it is enough to change the dimensions that do not fit: the length of the legs, the height of the chair, the seat parameters. When changing dimensions, be sure to respect the scale. An excellent option would be to use special programs that independently create drawings based on the entered data.

What are the correct dimensions of a chair?

The purchase of a chair, like any furniture, is carried out with an eye on the build of the person who will sit on it. When purchasing furniture in bulk, for example, for a concert hall, the average size of potential visitors is taken into account.

The purpose of the chair plays a big role - whether it will be a work chair or a chair for the dining table. If the owner is expected to spend several hours a day sitting, then comfort comes first. When choosing dimensions, a person’s height, weight and leg length should be taken into account.

Incorrectly chosen dimensions of furniture that do not correspond to the size of a person can lead to a number of diseases. Osteochondrosis, circulatory disorders, scoliosis - this is not a complete list of consequences that can result from an incorrectly selected chair or armchair.

Conclusion - those dimensions that are most comfortable for a person are considered correct.

Standard standards

In Russia there is a state standard. He regulates the size of the furniture. According to GOST, the following dimensions are considered acceptable:

  • seat depth – 36–45 cm, working chair – 40–50 cm;
  • distance from the backrest to the seat – 16.5–20 cm;
  • The width of the seat is 36–45 cm, the width of the working chair is 40–50 cm.

Manufacturers take into account the standards. In stores you can find various models with both exact and average indicators. For families, it is better to choose adjustable models. The recommended length from floor to seat depends on the person’s height:

  • low – 40 cm;
  • average – 43 cm;
  • high – 45 cm.

The total length of a standard product cannot exceed 90 cm. At the same time, the distance from the floor to the seat should be up to 45 cm. The minimum width of the backrest is from 35, and the depth is up to 55 cm. A standard model for a user of average height should have a length of 75 cm.

Stools

The height of the stool is important for proper body position. Modern manufacturers are striving to increase dimensions to make models more versatile. Standard indicators are:

  • seat parameters – from 32 cm;
  • leg length – from 50 cm;
  • the distance from the bar to the seat is from 38 cm.

Distinctive features of growing chairs, important selection criteria

There are products up to 48 cm in length. Some manufacturers make different footrests on each side of the stool so that the piece of furniture is suitable for family members of any height. The main thing is that it matches the size of the table.

Chairs with backs

The height of kitchen chairs is also regulated by GOST. Such models are located in bedrooms, dining area, living room. Standard sizes are:

  • total height – up to 90 cm;
  • distance to the seat – from 40 to 45 cm;
  • back length – from 45 cm.

Adjustable chairs

The dimensions of the office chair are adjustable. It should be suitable for workers of any height. Now such models are used not only at work, but also at home as a computer chair. The following dimensions are important:

  • the distance from the seat to the floor is adjustable from 46 to 60 cm;
  • back – at least 45 cm;
  • seat width – at least 48 cm.

The correct height ensures comfortable sitting for a long time. This product adapts to almost any height. Adjustable models can be kitchen, bar, children's, medical, orthopedic, office and even designer models.

Bar

Such chairs do not fit into the state standard. They have different seat heights, minimum backrest and leg lengths. So, the length reaches 85 centimeters, the width – up to 46, and the depth – up to 32. When choosing such a model, only its compliance with the rack is taken into account.

Children's models

Children's furniture options can be orthopedic, computer and desk. Selection is carried out based on the following criteria:

Age Table height, cm Chair height, cm
Babies up to a meter tall 40 22
Schoolchildren under 7 years old 52 32
Children under 12 57 35
Teenagers 76 46

Dimensions are selected according to the age and build of the child. Unlike adult models, giving preference to the optimal option is not the best solution. It is more rational to purchase a model for a specific child or teenager.

Desk height

It is better to select the height of the desktop and computer desk individually. If several people will work at the same table, we recommend focusing on the tallest one. For those who are shorter, you can use a chair with height adjustment or add a pillow when working. So that the height remains optimal. See the table below for the ratio of height, table and chair height.

Standard standards

In the Russian Federation there are state standards for household furniture (GOST 13025.2-85). The following standard sizes are regulated for chairs and work chairs:

  • seat depth - for a chair 360-450 mm, work chair - 400-500 mm;
  • the height of the backrest bend from the seat is 165-200 mm;
  • seat width - at least 360-450 mm for a chair and 400-500 mm for a work chair.

Modern furniture manufacturers offer customers a wide range of chairs of various sizes. So, their total height can be from 800 to 900 mm, and the height of the chair seat varies from 400 to 450 mm. The backrest width has a minimum size of 350 mm, and the depth can reach 500-550 mm. A model with a total height of 750 mm is considered standard (considering that the average human height is 165 cm). However, you can individually calculate the size based on your height.

An option suitable for the whole family are models with adjustable parameters.

Stools

When producing standard stools, manufacturers are guided by the following dimensions according to GOST: the length of the seat side is at least 320 mm, the height of the legs is at least 500 mm, the distance from the first horizontal bar to the seat is at least 380-420 mm. Many factories today are increasing these parameters. So, in stores you can find stools with a height of 420 mm to 480 mm. This difference is justified by the need to select comfortable models depending on height.

Chairs with backs

The times when stools were used in the kitchen, and only armchairs were present in the living room furniture ensemble, are gone. Today, the presence of a chair with a back is quite acceptable in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, relaxation and work areas. The height of kitchen models with backs is in the range of 800-900 mm. In this case, the distance from the floor to the seat is 400-450 mm. The correct height of the backrest (or the area on which you can lean your back) is at least 450 mm. Exceptions include models for bar counters.

Furniture for cafes and restaurants is characterized by more varied dimensions; its height can reach 1060 mm, back height – 600 mm. In this case, the distance from the floor to the seat should still be within 450 mm. To make rest more comfortable, the backrest can have a smooth physiological bend and be slightly tilted back. At the same time, the stability of the furniture must be ensured by additional structural elements.

Adjustable chairs

The best combination of table and chair heights is selected using adjustable models. Today, options are relevant in which the distance from the floor to the seat can be adjusted from 460 to 600 mm. As a rule, the backrest height is 450 mm and the seat width is 480 mm.

A feature of today's adjustable models is their adaptation to any practical human activity. It can be: medical (for a patient or a doctor), office, children's, kitchen, bar, original designer or orthopedic chair.

Bar

The height of the bar stool does not fit into standard standards. First of all, the size of restaurant equipment and furniture is taken into account. The height of the models can range from 750 to 850 mm, the width can be no less than 460, and the depth can be no less than 320. The tilt radius for standard options is 450 mm, and for lumbar – 220.

Since the legs do not reach the floor when sitting on a high chair, conditions are created for pinching the femoral veins and arteries. Therefore, it would not be superfluous to have an additional footrest on such a chair for support.

Children's models

The correct selection of chairs for children should also be carried out according to the following rules:

  1. For children up to one meter tall, the height of the table should be 340-400 mm, the height of the chair – 180-220.
  2. For a 6-7 year old student with a height of 110-120 cm, we recommend a chair with a height of 32 cm, and a table, including a dining table, with a height of 52 cm.
  3. Older children (121-130 cm) need a table height of 57 cm and a chair height of 35 cm. For heights from 131 to 160 cm, a table height of 58-64 cm and a chair height of 34-38 cm are suitable.

For taller teenagers, it is recommended to purchase a table from 70-76 cm and a chair from 42-46 cm.

When choosing a chair for a schoolchild, it is worth considering the following models:

  • writing;
  • computer;
  • knee orthopedic (as a variety - dynamic).

They can be equipped with armrests, however, orthopedists do not consider this option physiologically correct.

A kitchen stool with a height of 650 mm must have a footrest.

The dimensions of beds and mattresses for them must correspond to those indicated in Fig. 6.

The length of the mattresses can be as follows (and the recommended length is given in brackets): l = (1860), (1900), 1950, 2030 mm; width of single mattresses - b = (700), (800), 900 mm, double - (1100), (1200), 1400, 1600 mm.

The functional dimensions of tables are determined in accordance with GOST 13025.3, which applies to dining tables, kitchen dining tables, desks, secretaries, as well as products for installing televisions (except for compartments for installing televisions in multi-purpose cabinets).

The dimensions of dining and kitchen dining tables, as well as seating at the table, are shown in Fig. 7.

In rectangular dining tables with a lid length of at least 1200 mm, the distance between the legs along the longitudinal axis must be at least 910 mm (for installing two chairs).

The dimensions of the seat at the kitchen dining table are allowed to be at least 500x300 mm. The dimensions of the table cover are determined depending on the number of seats. The functional dimensions of drawers and compartments for storing cutlery and linen are taken in accordance with GOST 13025.1 (see Table 3).

The dimensions of desks and secretaries are shown in Fig. 8.

The distance between the front edge of the table cover and the depth-limiting element must be at least 400 mm. The distance from the floor to the working plane of products for performing typewritten work, work on a computer and other organizational equipment is at least 680 mm.

The internal dimensions of boxes and half-boxes for papers must be at least 340×240 mm, and their depth - 65 mm. (The depth is taken to be the distance from the bottom to the structural element that limits the height of the stored items.) But the indicated dimensions do not apply to boxes intended for storing pencils, feathers, and erasers.

Children's furniture is made in several sizes, taking into account the average height of children. Thus, tables and chairs are made in five numbers: 00; 0; 1; 2; 3 respectively for the average height of children 750; 900; 1050; 1200; 1350 mm.

Varieties of sizes

The characteristics of the chair depend on the purpose of use. The requirements for an office chair, in which an employee needs to spend eight hours at a time, differ from the characteristics of a kitchen or children's chair.

For people of average height (from 162 to 168 cm), the recommended chair size is 42-43 cm, high (from 168 cm) - 45 cm, low (less than 162 cm) - 40 cm.

For a child

Properly selected furniture is a prerequisite for the development of healthy posture in a child. If your baby sits too low, his blood circulation may be impaired. A seat that is too high will require you to lean over the table or strain your eyes.

Choosing the right high chair for a child is especially important, since from childhood you need to take care of the formation of correct posture.

To understand whether the right place for studying and playing is chosen, sit your child at the table. Your feet should be level on the floor and your knees should be at a straight angle. If the angle is more than 90 degrees, the baby is sitting too high. If less, it is too low.

A piece of furniture that is too small can impair a child’s blood circulation, and a large piece of furniture can impair his vision.

When the child is at the table, the distance from his knees to the tabletop should be 15 centimeters.

Height can be determined by the following classification:

  1. For children less than 80 cm tall, a chair at 17 cm is suitable.
  2. From 80 to 90 cm – 24 cm.
  3. Height from 100 to 115 cm - the seat should be located 28 cm from the floor.
  4. 110 – 120 cm corresponds to a 32 cm product.
  5. From 120 to 130 cm – legs in the range of 32-25 cm.
  6. If the child is up to 140 cm tall, the product should have a height of 36-38 centimeters.

A convenient option for a child is a product with the ability to change the length of the legs.

For kitchen

The parameters of chairs for the kitchen also depend on the dimensions of the table in the first place. For a standard one, select a product with a distance of 80-90 cm from the floor to the top point. From the floor to the seat there should be about 42 cm, and the back should be at least 45 cm. The width is usually from 35 cm, the depth is about 50-55 cm.

The height of kitchen chairs should correspond to the height of the table. This is an important indicator of comfort.

If the kitchen has a bar counter, the seating options will be different. The distance from the floor to the seat in this case is at least 75 cm. Standard models have a tilt radius of 45 cm, and the lumbar type - 22 cm.

For bar counters, the chair height will be different. Here you also need to consider the level of the surface at which you will sit.

Pay attention to the convenience of the footrest: it should be located at such a level that your legs can be comfortably placed on it without straining

For office

The parameters of work chairs differ significantly from kitchen seats. Work furniture should bring comfort even during long periods of sitting, not disturb posture and ensure optimal body position.

When choosing a work chair, you need to know that the required chair height for eating and working differs.

When choosing a chair for work, you need to take into account many individual characteristics: some people need to lean back more, while others, on the contrary, prefer to look at the monitor from a hard surface and a backrest fixed in a vertical position.

Recommended dimensions of office furniture: width from 40 cm, the same depth, adjustable height within 40-45 cm, the ability to tilt 15 degrees forward and 5 degrees back. The slope of the back surface should be approximately 30 degrees, the armrests should be at least 25 cm long and not narrower than 6 cm.

To create the most comfortable working conditions, choose office chairs made from natural materials. A headrest is desirable.

Showing concern for your children, choose models made from natural fabrics and with headrests, so that you can relax your neck muscles from time to time.

The importance of correct body position in a chair

A piece of furniture should be comfortable to work on, relax on, or eat on. It's not just about comfort or aesthetics. An incorrectly chosen chair height has a negative impact on human health:

  • blood supply deteriorates;
  • pain appears;
  • within a couple of hours fatigue sets in;
  • there is discomfort in the neck and back.

For people of different heights, the correct dimensions of furniture are different. If there are several people in the family, it is advisable to select either adjustable furniture or take into account the average parameters. So, a dining chair of 75 cm is suitable for a table, 90 cm for an “island”, and 110 cm for a bar counter.

Not only the distance of the seat from the floor is taken into account, the height of the backrest, the location of the armrests and footrests are also important.

Incorrectly selected stool sizes will lead to the development of back and neck diseases, and deterioration of vision. Correct body position is determined by the following criteria:

  • the tabletop is located at a distance of 25–30 cm from the eyes;
  • legs are bent, feet are on the floor;
  • the knees are located slightly above the pelvis;
  • there is lumbar support;
  • there should be no pressure under the knees;
  • the distance between the knee joints and the table top is more than 15 cm.

If a person feels tired, he should be able to lean on his back to relieve tension. The longer the user stays on a piece of furniture, the more comfortable it should be. Therefore, computer chairs are equipped with additional elements to support the back, neck, and head.

Standard bar stool sizes

Standard products include chairs in the following heights:

  • 75 cm. This model is the most popular and ideally complements racks with a height of 105-115 cm.
  • 85 cm. The product is optimally suited for counters with a height of 130 cm. Typically, these are the chairs that can be found in cafes, bars, and restaurants.
  • 65 cm. Such a piece of furniture is considered a semi-bar and is used for the interiors of entertainment establishments.

To determine the standards, the average statistical height of an adult was taken into account and the sitting posture was assessed

We also took into account the ratio of the height of the chair and the stand

When choosing a bar stool, you should remember that the standards do not apply to all parameters, but only to the height of the seat from the floor. In other words, you will have to select the backrest yourself, focusing on your own tastes and wishes.

When using a bar counter for the purpose of zoning a room, it is advisable to select higher chairs for it. And if you plan to slide them under the table, then you should focus on backless models.

Height-adjustable furniture

This is an elegant solution if you want to choose something universal. Whether such furniture is beneficial or harmful depends on the user's understanding of optimal fit.

The main thing is that the mechanism that secures the chair or stool at a certain height is reliable. It is also important whether the mechanism is protected from aggressive environmental factors by a housing or a lid. Ideally, it should be convenient to adjust the wheel even with a manicure.

How to choose and what to pay attention to

It is important that bar stools do not stand out from the overall design concept

There are general rules for choosing half-bar stools. If you follow them, the purchase will not disappoint.

Height

Before purchasing a half-bar stool, you need to decide on its parameters. The most optimal height of a half-bar stool is that it should be slightly higher than the middle of the bar counter.

This size will be the most comfortable. If the table is selected after purchasing the chairs, then the rule is the same - you should buy a tabletop with high legs or think about installing it in an apartment.

Materials

When choosing bar stools you need to pay attention to several factors

The material from which the chair is made plays a vital role. Most often, these pieces of furniture are made from the following raw materials:

Metal and steel

  • The advantages of such chairs are strength, reliability and durability;
  • they are able to withstand impressive weight;
  • they are not afraid of exposure to high humidity, sunlight, temperature, and various liquids;
  • In addition, metal half-bar stools are very easy to clean and do not require special care.

And to damage such a product, you need to try pretty hard.

The only negative is that at low temperatures, using a steel chair will cause some discomfort. A soft seat will solve the problem.

Tree

Wooden bar stools look traditional and homey

Wooden half-bar stools look like a single structure, often with the addition of plastic and metal elements. Their advantages are environmental friendliness, the possibility of use in cold rooms, as well as an attractive design. You can even paint them yourself.

Plastic

Plastic chairs aren't as durable, but they're colorful and fun.

  • the most common material for half-bar stools, it is also the most economical and practical;
  • There is no need to have any illusions about durability and strength;
  • It’s difficult to call such chairs reliable;
  • but if we consider their light weight and resistance to temperature changes, they have no equal;
  • They are easy to move, take out of the room and stack.

Glass

Glass chairs? Unusual, but rarely used

  • the chair usually comes with a metal frame;
  • stylish and unusual option for the kitchen;
  • it is fragile and requires careful handling, even though the glass is shockproof;
  • Few people will decide on glass half-bar stools. Such interior solutions are suitable for a small room when it is necessary to visually expand the space.

Read how to choose a folding glass chair.

Stability and ergonomics

It is important to pay attention to the stability of the stool. It should not wobble, all legs should touch the floor, unless otherwise provided by the design. And what attribute it will be - a traditional chair with four legs, a seat on a long adjustable support, or a chair with criss-cross legs - it’s up to you

And what attribute it will be - a traditional chair with four legs, a seat on a long adjustable support, or a chair with criss-cross legs - is up to you.

The ergonomics of a half-bar stool is the foundation of a winning design. Before purchasing, you need to test the chair, evaluate the depth of its seat and the inclination of the backrest. The footrest should not be too high. Read how to choose chairs with a back for the kitchen on

What else is worth considering

Seating furniture has many parameters. And there are no less important aspects than height. All of them should be taken into account in order to choose the optimal chair or stool for health, on which it will be possible to work in comfort for many years.

Factors to also consider:

  • backrest tilt and height;
  • seat rigidity;
  • environmental friendliness of materials;
  • reliability of the design.

It is recommended not to lean on the back of the chair, but to support your back solely with your muscles. But if this doesn’t work out, it’s better to sit directly against the flat back of the chair. If the latter is curved, then perhaps it will be pleasant for someone, but there is nothing useful here.

Sitting on the soft seat of a chair for too long will lead to blood stagnation and expansion of hemorrhoids. When the seat is hard, the risk of such a problem is much lower. If you don’t want to buy completely hard furniture, you should buy a compromise option.

When choosing, you should pay attention to the environmental friendliness of materials. It is better that these are not some harmful synthetic materials, which is not uncommon on the cheapest furniture. It is also better not to purchase furniture with fabric upholstery, because microorganisms sometimes develop in it over time.

Of course, the structure must be strong enough. Although it is not easy to assess the strength of individual elements. You should find out right in the store how securely the elements are connected to each other.

Material

The materials of kitchen chairs must be selected in accordance with their pros and cons, and the priority of each of them personally for the person. The criteria are usually: practicality, functionality, style and, of course, table material. Playing with colors and shapes looks impressive, but it is better to choose the same materials for both the chairs and the table. Exceptions are welcome, but you should be careful with them.

Plastic

The world has successfully moved away from centuries-old stereotypes that a chair is considered a valuable element of the interior only if it has geometric carvings on the legs, silk upholstery, lush pillows, gilding, and long armrests. Nowadays everything strives for simplicity and accessibility, but this does not lose its attractiveness.

  • Transparent kitchen chairs

Thus, plastic is widely used in the manufacture of chairs. Its comparative weightlessness, variability of colors (it is much easier to find plastic in the desired combination of colors, rather than fabric), ease of care, and inability to undergo severe deformation scream that you need to buy a chair made of plastic. It’s also amazing that they save space in the room, since they can easily be stacked on top of each other. A possible disadvantage is a short service life.

But designer Philippe Starck at one point opened transparent chairs to the world. It is interesting to take note of this idea - a light shade visually expands the space, which is quite important for small square meters.

Metal

Chairs with a metal frame are especially interesting. They can and should also be combined with different coatings - glass, ceramics, etc. The obvious advantages are wear resistance, durability, and the presence of two variations of chairs - soft and hard. Hand-forged products are used to decorate country kitchens. A metal chair is usually easy to use.

  • Wooden chairs with upholstery
  • Chairs with carved backs

For the soft version of chairs, various dense textiles, leatherette and leather are considered. Leatherette is an inexpensive option and, moreover, unlike other textiles, it does not absorb odors and is not a strong carrier of pollution.

For the solid version of the chairs, elegant wood and ceramics are used.

Tree

If we talk about assembling a chair yourself, then here is a win-win material - classic wood, familiar to all of us. The number of ways there are for selecting and processing wood has not been invented for any other material. Even just buying a product is quite problematic, there is a lot of everything left to the imagination - you can combine wood with metal and luxurious stone.

  • Classic wooden chairs for the kitchen

Wooden chairs have their positive and negative sides. On the one hand - strength, long service life, obvious presentability regardless of design, environmentally friendly disposal, resistance to high loads

On the other hand, it is always important to remember about the high cost, damage from moisture and possible drying out, and the tendency to rapid damage. But with wood you can indulge in refined carvings, velvet, brocade, jacquard upholstery

Rattan is a natural wicker material, the ancestor of which is Southeast Asia. Rattan chairs are difficult to integrate into modern kitchens, but oriental or country style is the way to go! Beautiful, concise, light, unobtrusive and easy to care for.

How to choose the right height for a kitchen table and chair?

Many sellers confidently state that the height of kitchen chairs and tables is standard too. But in practice this is not always the case, because people are different by nature, some have longer arms, some have shorter ones, and so on. In addition, the height of the furniture is calculated according to the average height of a modern person - 165 cm.

I bought a table and chairs for the kitchen in a standard store. But I don't feel comfortable sitting at this table. I began to figure out why and realized that the height of the chair was not correct. How to choose the height of a kitchen chair for yourself? And if everyone in the family is of different heights, you will have to purchase kitchen chairs with height adjustment, or a kitchen table with an adjustable tabletop.

The most comfortable kitchen chairs are those with a wide seat and a reinforced ring under the seat. Of course, you can buy a height-adjustable kitchen chair with a backrest, but most often you want to buy classic kitchen chairs made of wood.

How to calculate the required size?

If you decide to buy factory-made furniture, before going to the store it is better to calculate these dimensions “for yourself.” First of all, decide what size the table will be. If you are purchasing a new table, then you need to decide on its choice, and then move on to the rest of the furniture. There is some standard formula for calculation, which will be discussed below.

First, measure your height and the height of other family members. It is necessary to calculate the average height of your household. It is taken as the arithmetic mean of growth. For example, your height is 178 cm, the average family height is 167 cm. Next we take the ratio: 178 * 75 (standard height) / 167 = 79.9 cm. This will be the ideal height of the kitchen table.

Now subtract from the resulting figure from 40 to 45 cm (depending on height: the taller the person, the closer to 45 cm). In the example given, it turns out 79.9-43 = 36.9 cm. This is the optimal distance from the table to the seat. You can choose the length of the back at your discretion, but remember that the standard size is 90 cm.

If you are making a table for yourself or your loved ones, calculating its height will not be difficult. To do this, use standard ergonomic indicators. The average height of a man in our country is about 165 cm, a woman – 156 cm; the height of a standard table is 75 cm. In this case, calculate the height of a homemade table for your height using the formula:

The height of a homemade table = your height * the height of a standard table / standard height;

For example, if a man is 175 cm tall, you will get the result: 175 * 75 / 165 = 79.5 cm.

standard table height

  • — a table, preferably with a crossbar (or with a bench under your feet);
  • - chair;
  • - stand for textbooks.

For clarity, let's look at one example. The length of the cornice is 3 meters, the curtains will reach the floor and their height should be 2.5 meters. We obtain the required amount of fabric for tulle based on the following formula. Height plus top fold, plus bottom fold = 2.5 + 0.10 + 0.15 = 2.75 meters. This value will be the length of the tulle fabric. The width will be the length of the cornice multiplied by 2, that is, 6 meters.

The length of a simple curtain will correspond to the length of the tulle, and the width should be divided by the number of intended fabrics. This means that you will need 3 meters of fabric for one curtain. When cutting, do not forget to add the centimeters required for hemming the sides.

Rules for choosing by height

The standard sizes of stools are designed for an average human height of 1.65 m. These sizes are clearly not suitable for tall people and children. There is a single formula by which you can calculate the required height of a stool for an individual:

(P* 75/ 165) – 35

where P is the individual height of a person in centimeters, 75 is the standard height of a table, 165 is the average height of a person in centimeters, 35 is the difference between the height of a table and a stool.

Instead of the standard average value of 165, the arithmetic mean of the heights of all family members is taken.

If all these calculations are tedious and complicated, here are some tips for choosing:

  • when a person sits on a stool, his feet should be free on the floor, and his knees should be bent exactly at an angle of 90 degrees;
  • the distance between the knees and the table top should be about 10-15 cm;
  • The front edge of the stool should not put pressure on the lower thigh under the knees.

See below for a review of the high stool.

Material selection

Most often, chairs are made by hand from wood. This material is environmentally friendly and can be easily processed.

When choosing a suitable option, you should pay attention to the breed:

  1. Solid varieties. This category includes oak, maple, beech, birch, cherry, and walnut. Pros: characterized by increased strength, resistance to deformation, durability. Cons: high cost, the material is more difficult to process due to its dense structure.
  2. Soft breeds. This group includes alder, pine, aspen, linden, spruce. Pros: they have a straight-layer loose structure, so the material is convenient to saw, cut, glue, and the finished products are lightweight and attractive in appearance. Cons: less practical compared to hard rocks, more susceptible to mechanical damage.

Wooden chairs are usually made from boards 10–15 mm thick or timber with a section of 60 x 40 mm or 40 x 40 mm. Logs are used less frequently, but they must first be cut using a circular saw or grinder. An array is also suitable for work, but it is expensive, so beginners are not recommended to use this material.

When choosing suitable lumber, you must carefully check its quality

First, pay attention to several important signs:

  • boards, beams are smooth, without distortions, bends, knots;
  • no chips or cracks;
  • the material must be dry, without wormholes or fungi.

It is recommended to make your own chairs only from high-quality materials. Violation of drying rules can be visually determined. This is noticeable by cracks, warping of the surface, various irregularities, and protruding resin. Lumber that has been stored in a damp place for a long time is not suitable for furniture production.

Tips for choosing the right height

When choosing the height of bar stools, they are “based” primarily on the same parameter of the counter. A seat that is located at a distance of 25–35 cm from the bottom surface of its tabletop is considered comfortable. The standard height of the bar counter is also determined taking into account the anatomical characteristics of the person. For factory products used in retail outlets and public institutions, it is 1100 cm, 1200 cm, 1250 cm and 1300 cm.

Smaller models are often chosen for homes. They are safer, especially if used by children, and create a greater sense of coziness and comfort. In addition, the contrast with the standard low ceilings of typical apartments in the overall interior looks unattractive.

Standard dimensions of a home bar counter: height - 105 cm, length - 120 cm, width - 55 cm. This product is convenient to use as an additional dining surface or cooking table. The minimum width of the tabletop is 30 cm (with a smaller size it is inconvenient to use).

When choosing, first of all, they start from the size of the rack

For the home, you should prefer models of low height. Depending on the height of the home bar counter, the recommended dimensions of a bar stool that will be comfortable for it are:

When selecting bar stools, in addition to the general design and construction, the height of the product plays an important role. It affects not only the comfort, but also the safety of its use. The range of models offered by manufacturers is wide and allows you to find an option that satisfies any requirements.

Models for the kitchen

Kitchen chairs can be of various shapes and colors. They are made of wood, metal, plastic and even glass.

Don't forget that kitchen items often get dirty, and if you have fabric upholstery, it will deteriorate over time, so it's better to consider more practical options.

The height of kitchen chairs should correspond to the height of the table. This is an important indicator of comfort, and although many sellers may assure you that they are all the same, in reality this is far from the case.

In accordance with standard GOST indicators (for a table 72-78 cm), dimensions may vary:

  • The required height of the object from the base of the floor to the top of the back is 800-900 mm;
  • The size from the floor to the seat is in the range of 400-450 mm;
  • The height of the part on which you lean must be at least 450 mm;
  • The width of the back and seat is from 350 mm, and the depth is 500-550 mm.

For bar counters, the chair height will be different. Here you also need to consider the level of the surface at which you will sit.

Depending on this, the size from the tile to the seat will vary between 750 and 850 mm. The width of the seating surface should start at 460 mm, and the depth at 320 mm. The tilt radius will be 450 mm for standard models and 220 mm for lumbar models.

In bar models, a footstool for support will not be a superfluous accessory. If your kitchen countertop height is 90 cm, then the bar seating model will be 65 cm.

Nowadays, both tables and chairs can be made to order. The master will take into account all the individual characteristics of the customer’s physique: he will measure height, weight, lower leg and hip part of the body.

Such chairs will not only make you feel comfortable, but will also protect your spine from scoliosis.

Design

The purchase of a table and chairs usually occurs at the end of the renovation, when finishing work has been carried out and the set has been installed

It is very important that the purchased furniture is in harmony with the interior. It is not necessary to purchase a set, you can choose a pair yourself

  1. In a classic dining room interior, richly decorated wooden samples would be appropriate.
  2. Minimalism and modernism are well complemented by simple, stylish wood products without unnecessary details. Plastic will also fit harmoniously here.
  3. High-tech hi-tech is emphasized by metal and plastic.
  4. When decorating a room in Provence or country style, it is worth choosing objects made of wood; it is possible to use colored or artificially aged samples. For country music, an interesting solution would be to use rattan.

Nowadays it is fashionable to purchase chairs of the same shape with different upholstery colors or painted in all sorts of colors. These can be calm shades, for example, white and black, variations of beige or a rainbow variety. The first case is appropriate for minimalism and modern styles, and bright objects will fit perfectly into country and high-tech.

Transparent plastic products are an excellent solution for tight spaces. They allow you to create the illusion of free space.

Height-adjustable tables

They are also called mechanical. Such models help save money. They are intended for several purposes. Firstly, schoolchildren and preschool children can do their homework for many years. In addition, “adult” tables will be adjustable depending on height and needs. Mechanical furniture may have X-shaped legs that allow for easy height adjustment. Some models are equipped with a telescopic mechanism: to change the height of the vertical supports, you need to hold the tabletop on both sides. This is a less convenient option. There are also electronic and retractable mechanisms. Using any of these devices, you can not only adjust the height from the floor, but also change the appearance or set of functions, for example, turning a coffee table into a dining table. All products have a small drawback - the maximum load is limited to 30-45 kilograms. There are many more advantages. Among them:

  1. Practicality. They can be used in different rooms and for different purposes.
  2. Space saving due to the compactness of the product.
  3. Comfort and versatility. The table can be customized at your discretion.

What is important to know when choosing a chair

Firstly, you should familiarize yourself with GOST. Furniture should ideally match this. This is not yet a guarantee that the stool or chair is good, but at least the standard options will not be downright harmful.

Set with table

What does this parameter affect?

It’s one thing if a person sits down for five minutes. It doesn’t matter what exactly he sits on. But when it comes to long-term work or study, the characteristics of the furniture cannot be ignored. After all, overall health depends on them.

Here's what the seat height of a chair directly affects:

  • Function of the circulatory system.
  • Spine condition.
  • Foot health.

Back and seat option

However, altitude indirectly affects everything: the condition of organs, well-being, and performance.

So if you want to work effectively without harming your health, then it is important to choose a chair of exactly the height that will be optimal for a particular person.

What parameters of the body constitution are worth considering?

Furniture is selected in height based on the characteristics of the person. First of all, height and weight are taken into account, because they determine what size and strength a chair or stool is required. It is also important to consider age. If this is a child, then, for obvious reasons, he should purchase furniture with a margin of strength and stability.

Variety of models for the living room

The difference between chairs depending on their purpose

The optimal office or kitchen chair has different parameters. For relaxation, of course, soft chairs are more pleasant, but well-chosen office furniture will be more useful. In addition, sometimes it is no less comfortable. The children's chair also has its own characteristics.

So, it is important to take into account the constitution of the human body, the purpose of the furniture and the standard. Then you will be able to choose a product of optimal height. However, it is important to consider that people with specific problems with the body sometimes require special furniture.
