Transformable beds (77 photos): round and built-in models, folding and folding, reviews

Practicality, functionality and spectacular appearance are the three main requirements that modern consumers place on furniture.

Transformable furniture is one of the most popular design solutions these days, combining all these qualities at once. Its widespread distribution is dictated by the difficult conditions of modern life: with the growth of cities, the housing area is becoming smaller and smaller.

And it becomes almost impossible to provide enough space in the house with traditional furniture.

A sleeping place is a very large type of furniture, so transformable beds are in great demand among buyers.

Features and benefits of convertible beds

The compact transformable bed advantageously combines high functionality and attractive design. By purchasing this piece of furniture, you will receive the following benefits:

  • ease of operation: even a child can handle the modern transformation mechanism;
  • space saving;
  • possibility of room zoning;
  • combining the function of a sleeping place with the capabilities of other types of furniture (depending on the configuration);
  • the opportunity to diversify the interior due to a wide range of materials, colors and designs.

Types of transformable beds

Many buyers are interested in the question: what types of transformable beds are there? Modern furniture manufacturers offer many options for transformable beds, so you can always choose furniture that best suits your needs.

There are the following main types of such structures:

  • folding wardrobe bed;
  • table-bed;
  • sofa bed;
  • transformable bed for newborns.

Varieties

Conventionally, all types of beds with folding and folding mechanisms can be divided into several types:

  • a sofa that, when unfolded, turns into a full-fledged comfortable sleeping bed, is the most common option. The sofa is affordable and easy to use;
  • vertical or horizontal folding structures, presented in the form of beds, cabinets, tables, chests of drawers, walls and other interior items. It could also be a sofa;
  • tilt-and-turn - innovative and most expensive models that allow the most productive use of living space;
  • bed wardrobes – on the upper tier there is a practical sleeping area, and below there is a spacious closet;
  • bed tables – at the top there is a sleeping place, at the bottom there is a workplace;
  • roll-out systems - when folded, they take up little space and are quite compact, but at nightfall, with the help of a roll-out mechanism, they are transformed into a large double bed;
  • Folding systems are easily built into any cabinet furniture and take up little space.

Sofa beds

It is this type of transformable furniture, such as a sofa, that can most often be found in one-room apartments and dormitories. Their low price and unique design allow almost everyone to make such a profitable purchase.

Their range is not limited to the banal sofa and book; in furniture stores you can also find a sofa with a retractable mechanism, when the sleeping place is compactly hidden in a niche along with metal legs, as shown in the photo. In addition, you can find the following options for sofa beds: with an accordion system, with an adjustable backrest, unfolding models, pull-out, roll-out, recliners, a sofa with a modular system, and so on.

Sofa beds can vary in type of mechanism:

  • folding (book, click-click) - the sleeping space is increased by lowering the backrest to the level of the seat;
  • unfolding (accordion) – the mechanism works on the principle of an accordion;
  • retractable (Eurobook, roll-out) - to unfold the structure, just roll out the base and lower the backrest into the free space.

With vertical extension

Often, a transformable bed with a vertical folding mechanism is presented in the form of a double bed, which allows you to save at least 3 square meters of living space. Minimalist architects managed to create a perfect design, which is assembled cabinet furniture, as shown in the photo.

The system operates using a spring or pneumatic lifting mechanism, while the sleeping place is secluded in a special box that harmoniously complements the appearance of the structure. In this case, the lower part of the bed can be supplemented with other decorative elements, for example, a mirror or miniature shelves, as shown in the photo.

The most common are beds with a gas lift system, when the side panels of the furniture are complemented by bookshelves and mezzanines for storing bed linen. There are also often models that transform into a compact desk or cabinet, which are ideal for a miniature children's room.

With horizontal roll-out

This option would look good in a children’s room or a guest room in a miniature apartment. This mechanism is even more compact than the vertical one. At the same time, the berth fastening is securely screwed to another element of the existing furniture - a closet, table, wall, photo.

The fastenings are often located on the longer side of the bed, this reduces the load and allows the use of cheaper and less powerful mechanisms. Such designs can be found in furniture for children: two-level beds or so-called loft beds.

Modern models are represented by original control, carried out remotely via a remote control or by pressing a special button. Thanks to the ease of use, the child can unfold and fold his bed himself.

With rotating or turning mechanism

Such furniture will become a real decoration of the house, but you should understand that the space for its location will require much more than for previous options. A rotating or turning bed is a luxurious and aristocratic interior element for a spacious apartment or country house, as shown in the selection of photos.

The principle of fastening is not much different from horizontal beds; the basis is furniture - bookcases, wall bars with niches, and so on. And control is carried out exclusively remotely, so when creating such models, strong metal alloys are used for the fastening system.

Built into cabinet and desk

Compact and practical beds that can be stored in a closet will be a real boon for a small room, for example, a miniature living room or bedroom. Various modifications allow you to choose the most suitable furniture option for the size and style: single and double, children's, with a vertical and horizontal mechanism.

Bed cabinets may vary in folding mechanism:

  • folding - pneumatic springs are responsible for lowering the structure to a horizontal position;
  • tilt-and-turn – operation is facilitated by swivel hinges.

Folding

The tilt-and-turn
table bed is suitable for small children's rooms; the photo shows that, with the help of a convenient mechanism, in the daytime it is a desk for games, studying, drawing, and at night the table bed turns into a sleeping place for the baby.

Thanks to the folding mechanism, the structure can be easily folded and unfolded. As for the table, it can be mounted in both longitudinal and transverse positions. There are also lifting mechanisms when the berth is raised, freeing up space for a folding or portable table.

Transformable wardrobe bed: varieties

One of the most popular attributes of home furniture with a transformable base is the wardrobe bed. A similar design was first invented at the beginning of the 20th century, after which it gradually began to be used throughout the world.

Today, high-quality development of such furniture is carried out by Ikea, which has earned its reputation and was one of the first to create a multifunctional transforming wardrobe.

Like any folding and transformable furniture, the wardrobe-bed has universal goals - to take up as little space as possible in the room, create balance in the interior and complement it, while providing the owner with maximum functionality and practicality.

Types of wardrobe beds:

  1. Retractable with vertical layout. This model is actually a folding bed, the function of the closet in which is conditional and minimal.
  2. Folding with horizontal layout. In this case, depending on the individual design of the model, the bed slides into the cabinet cavity and occupies only a certain part of it, leaving space for shelves and hangers.
  3. Built-in. The mechanism is based on extending or rolling out the bed.
  4. Folding. The mechanism works on the principle of the bed falling out of the cabinet cavity.

As follows from the description given, such furniture is suitable for small apartments like a studio apartment. The disadvantage of such wardrobe beds is the considerable price and gradual wear and tear of the extension mechanism.

Variety of sofa beds

In literally every major furniture department you can find several options for beds with a transformable base. Particularly in demand are those that can easily be converted into a sofa. Their advantage is that they are suitable for arranging any room, regardless of the chosen interior style. Inside most models there is a special compartment designed for storing bed linen and other things. In addition, modern transformable beds are equipped with orthopedic mattresses, which is also their indisputable advantage. Only budget types of furniture have disadvantages, the production of which uses cheap materials and fittings.

Pros and cons of a round sofa bed, product characteristics

A separate variety is a sofa that transforms into a two-story bed. The operating principle of such structures can be different: the back, seat or lower part can be turned into a second tier. There is no single classification; each manufacturer has its own individual approach.

Wardrobe bed .

Hello everybody ! In short, after buying a 2-room apartment, the question of buying furniture arose. Since I gave the small room to my son, he is already 11 years old and therefore I think that he should have his own territory. If with the child’s room with furniture everything is very clear, then with our room I was puzzled as to how to fit a normal sofa and bed on twenty meters. The size of the room is 20.5 sq.m, length 5.60m and width 3.40m. On the Internet, I found companies that made lift-up beds and went to see what they were. Honestly, my weight is not small, I am very large, 105-110 kg, well, plus my wife is 70, and when I looked at this miracle I was a little puzzled, how long will she last with the weight we have? The price with assembly costs 75,000 rubles plus a mattress. My friends are trying to dissuade me, they say it’s not reliable!!! Has anyone had experience with similar beds?

  • The price with assembly costs 75,000 rubles plus a mattress. It
    ’s not cheap, but a sofa bed won’t help get out of the situation?

  • the price is from the plane, if I had started it I would have welded the console myself. (mattresses are sold, lattices too) you just need to think through the design, and additional legs in the center. maybe a corner sofa will help you.

    maybe a corner sofa will help you.

    plusan for the corner sofa, I bought one for myself 1.5 years ago for 50 thousand, dimensions 2.2 * 2.6, (approximately, maybe a little more) room 19 square meters, very comfortable.

  • Somehow expensive. And it’s not a fact that it will be reliable - a lot depends on the quality of the chipboard from which the furniture is made. We also considered a similar design, but for some reasons we abandoned it (we looked at the Furniture Continent on Varshavskaya, this is behind Maxidom on Moskovsky Ave.). And why do you want to put both a sofa and a bed in the same room? Is there just one thing you can't do? And if you still need a lift-up bed, I would do it myself. There are accessories. Chipboard is sold - for every taste and color. They do the same thing when cutting to size. I don’t know about edging, but you can do it yourself. The main thing is to draw up a competent drawing taking into account all sizes and thicknesses. Well, considering your weight, I would provide additional supports in the middle.

  • The closet itself also takes up space, so you won’t be able to save much. We also thought about this at one time. We went to a store on Ligovsky with these beds, looked at it in person and didn’t like it. It looks like a collective farm.

  • The price is not based on the plane. The structure itself is 2.50 high, 3.4 long and .60 deep. There are a couple of small cabinets there. In short, from floor to ceiling and from one wall to another the width of the room. The bed itself costs 64,000 plus delivery and assembly for 10,000 and plus 14,000 -20,000 for the mattress.

    As for why there is a bed and a sofa - well, my spine has been operated on twice, I want to sleep normally, but if you put one bed, then constantly rubbing yourself on it is also not an option. As for assembling it myself, my hands are growing in the wrong place)))

  • We have such a thing, but it costs less weight, there is no hint of fragility, it has been working perfectly for a long time, nothing falls off and becomes crooked. We bought it from Sonata in Furniture Continent. They gave about 36 thousand rubles. no cabinets, but the box is non-standard.

  • Your task is difficult, finding a sofa that will have a good, flat sleeping place and a size of more than 190 by 140, is difficult for that kind of money.
    So most likely it is the bed with Marthas that is needed. And the mattress is about 20 thousand rubles. you can get a very good one. At one time I bought a mattress and a bed myself. Mattress Askona 200*140. https://www.askona.ru/matrasy/askona/...-josephine.htm While shopping I ran into the general director. As a result, I bought it at a 30 or 35 percent discount with home delivery. Just this is how it will look in the living room...

  • When we were puzzled by the presence of a flat sleeping surface (my husband had back problems and needed a high-quality mattress) and a minimum of occupied space, we chose a sofa with a maximum size of 200 by 180.. It turned out to be something like 42….
    colors are very different (the picture is terrible, terrible =))) This is the design of the sofa that folds out into a perfectly flat surface without a single joint…. Very cool! I strongly recommend!!! There you can also attach some kind of belongings, like a backrest like a bed (it will only be visible after the layout) ...

    Yes, I don’t even consider my room as a living room now. Basically, if guests come, we mostly sit in the kitchen. In short, I don’t even know what to do, what to buy? ((

  • I also chose one for myself – a horizontal folding wardrobe, but I don’t like the design of their legs. The advantages of such beds are obvious - they take up little space, there is no need for a flat hard surface. as in the case of a sofa, remove the bed linen every time

    I agree they look a little ugly, but there are ones without legs, or rather they are there, but the legs themselves are replaced by a visor. When you raise the bed, you get a canopy, and if you lower it, you get one solid leg across the entire width of the bed. It’s difficult to say how durable this design is because they only showed me a picture of this option.

  • Much depends on the geometry of the room itself. Can fit a normal bed + a couple of armchairs

  • Friends ordered from the factory on January 12, with installation, niche, mattress = 55 thousand, width 140 cm. It took about a month to make. The installation is happening right now.

Design features of compact hidden furniture

The design contains hidden elements, they include:

  • sofa and bed frames;
  • two backs;
  • pencil case;
  • mattress;
  • legs;
  • fastening devices.

  • The furniture set has the unique ability to transform a bedroom into a living room or office in a short time.
    It has its own characteristics and varieties. There are 2 types of location in relation to the wall:

    1. Horizontal, in which the lifting mechanism places it in the cabinet with its side facing the wall.
    2. Vertical, where the headboard will touch the wall.

    Operating principle and features of the lifting mechanism

    The advantage of a transforming bed is that the sleeping place is completely hidden behind the facade of another type of furniture, freeing up space in the middle of the room. To implement the transformation process, 2 types of lifting mechanisms are used:

    1. Based on the ability of springs to stretch and regain their original shape. Requires precise selection according to the weight and dimensions of the bed. It will take some effort to activate it.
    2. Hydraulic (gas lift) operates silently and easily. Even a child and an old man can cope with it.

    The second type is more reliable and of higher quality, but its cost is higher than the first.

    Depending on the size of the sleeping bed, the design of the lifting mechanism can be vertical or horizontal.

    If we are talking about a double bed, then it is mounted vertically (the headboard is fixed at the bottom of the wall, and the body moves from a horizontal position with the foot up and is placed along the entire height of the base). It is better to attach single beds to a horizontal structure, freeing up the upper part of the wall for other needs: installing shelves, mezzanines, mirrors and household utensils.

    The legs can be stationary, representing shelves after being raised, or hidden together with the sleeping area behind the facade of the furniture. You can use a table that lowers with the bed and snaps into place after it is raised. Such models are especially in demand in living rooms, when they are used as an additional sleeping place for guests.

    An important detail is ease of use due to the presence of special belts in the design, which are designed to hold not only the mattress, but also pillows, blankets, and other bedding. This eliminates the need to put items away in cabinets every morning, and in the evening you just need to lower the base and the bed is ready for rest and sleep.

    Varieties of transformation mechanisms

    The first thing you need to pay attention to when choosing a bed is the transformation mechanism. Based on their operating principle, they are divided into 2 types:

    • roll-out;
    • folding

    Roll-out beds operate using special rollers and guides. It is enough to pull a certain part of the furniture towards you, and the structure takes on a new shape. The advantages are simple operation and accessibility of fittings, the disadvantage is the need for regular maintenance. Due to excess dust and dirt, the rollers quickly become unusable. To ensure that nothing interferes with the transformation of the bed, you should leave 2 to 4 square meters of free space, depending on the dimensions of the product.

    Folding structures with a lifting mechanism can be horizontal or vertical. In the first case, the fittings are installed on the side of the furniture, in the second - at the head. To unfold the structure, the berth needs to be lowered down, and to be assembled, raised up.

    Roll-out bed

    Folding horizontal

    Folding vertical

    Sofa beds have several modifications, each of which is transformed in a certain way:

    1. Book - the seat rises until a characteristic click appears and then lowers, turning into a double bed.
    2. Eurobook - the seat moves forward and the backrest fits into the formed niche.
    3. Dolphin - the hinges located under the seat stretch upward and towards themselves, due to which an additional section is installed.
    4. Accordion - the upper part rises up and rolls forward, forming a flat surface without bumps.
    5. French folding bed - the pillows are removed, and a sleeping place is created, you just have to pull the seat towards you (the same principle is used in transformable pouf beds).

    Regardless of the modification chosen, sofa beds are considered one of the most comfortable pieces of furniture. It is difficult to find flaws in them, except that it may be low-quality fittings and manufacturing materials. They take up little space; even when disassembled, the usable area barely doubles.

    Collapsible structures can work both with and without transformation mechanisms. For example, modular furniture in the “matryoshka” style is modified by rearranging individual elements. And the playpen can easily turn into a regular bed after removing the lattice sides. Such work takes energy and time, which is certainly a disadvantage. But absolutely everyone can understand its nuances - this is a plus. Some models occupy the same area when assembled and unfolded. Others require 3-5 square meters of free space for successful transformation.

    Features and types of sliding beds, placement methods

    Depending on the characteristics of the work, the mechanisms are also divided into:

    1. Manual ones are the most cost-effective and labor-intensive, implying independent lifting of the product.
    2. Spring - they work due to twisted springs, which take on part of the load.
    3. Gas lift - a gas shock absorber is used as the power unit of the mechanism, ensuring silent operation and comfortable operation of the bed.

    If you prioritize the quality of furniture, then the last option will definitely be the best. The gas lift is designed for a large number of operating cycles - up to 90 thousand. The spring mechanism of a transformable lifting bed and other models is usually enough for no more than 20 thousand. But its cost is strikingly different from gas lift, so for many this type is the golden mean.

    Each of the mechanisms for a transforming bed is designed for a certain load. Exceeding the permissible standards may result in product failure.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    At first glance, the unfolded transforming furniture looks like a simple bed surrounded by other interior items. But you just have to raise the bed - and it is already a cabinet, table or flat wall, and the entire central space of the room is freed up, making it more spacious.

    Considering all the characteristics, we can identify the positive aspects of folding furniture, including the following:

    1. Installing a transforming structure will save useful space in the room. Perfect for a small apartment, studio, dorm room.
    2. Instead of making your bed every morning, you just need to raise your sleeping area. This results in saving time and money on additional bedding.
    3. Each model includes several functionally complete pieces of furniture made in the same style, which allows you not to worry about selecting the design of any of them.
    4. Thanks to many years of experimentation and taking into account the practical side of the issue, today's transformable furniture is quite easy to use and does not require additional skills and abilities.
    5. A variety of design solutions will satisfy the needs of even the most demanding customers.

    Like any product, changing furniture has disadvantages:

    • Connecting several items together through some mechanism increases production costs, which, in turn, makes the final product expensive. There is an alternative to choosing more budget options. But here the question is raised about the quality of components and the reliability of the design.
    • It is necessary to take into account that the folding bed must be installed near the main wall, this narrows the possibilities for planning the room.
    • The need to lay out furniture every time you want to lie down can cause some inconvenience. Such problems will not arise if it concerns the choice of transformable beds with a sofa.

    The benefits of folding furniture are many more. They are able to cover even the biggest shortcomings.

    Two-tier models

    Convertible bunk bed with pull-out bed underneath and separate pull-out work desks for two children

    Two-tier models are very popular, because two sizes of sleeping places can be compactly placed in a small area. This is the most rational solution for small rooms and when a family with two children is interested in purchasing. Bunk beds for teenagers provide reliability and practicality; manufacturers provide a large selection of mechanisms.

    Original ideas for the living room

    The reason for choosing transformable beds is not always the need to save space in a small room. Sometimes it’s the desire to have beautiful and functional furniture in the living room.

    The most functional design can be a completely flat wall surface in a room. All storage spaces are hidden and the doors are equipped with a push-to-open mechanism. This will completely eliminate handles and other fittings. The facade can be decorated with photo printing of the landscape over the entire surface.

    Supporters of classic interiors will appreciate a design that includes open shelves with various decorative items and a sofa with additional pillows in pastel colors.

    Furniture that transforms in the interior can be hidden behind the mirrored doors of a wardrobe. Then no one will guess that at any time a full-fledged double bed may appear in the middle of the living room.

    What you need to pay special attention to when choosing

    Design of a small bright children's room with a built-in folding bed

    Today, manufacturers offer different color schemes for all transformable beds. For this reason, they are very easy to match to any room design. Or choose the original version as a combination of several shades. This is the first point that parents and children pay attention to, but it is far from the most important.

    It is very important to pay attention to the strength and reliability of fittings, fasteners and locks before purchasing. The structures themselves, depending on the type of assembly, can be built-in, retractable, or folding.

    When choosing transformable beds for a teenager, you should pay attention to the following factors:

    – safety of the materials used;

    – structural strength;

    – Is it possible for a child to transform the bed on his own?

    – quality of fastenings and fittings;

    – dimensions of the structure;

    – cost of the product.

    When choosing, of course, they are guided by the cost of the models presented, and different manufacturers of the same type of transformer may offer different prices for the bed. The manufacturer brand must guarantee the quality of the materials used to produce teenage beds. It is important that the furniture does not emit a strong synthetic smell.

    It is not recommended to purchase this type of product through online catalogs. The more complex the device, the more problems it can cause to use. Therefore, when choosing models on the Internet, you need to make sure that the design is reliable before purchasing and be sure that it is suitable for your home.

    Characteristics of the transformable cabinet-table

    One of the most useful inventions for work rooms and offices is a cabinet-table. It is absolutely invisible and fits literally into all interiors, because most often it is a miniature but extremely functional attribute.

    Such models are usually installed against the wall.

    The wall, like the room itself, becomes rich and designer-designed. In addition, this makes it easier to use, because most often the cabinet-table is used as a place for paperwork and a computer.

    Main characteristics:

    1. Most often it is made from laminated chipboard (chipboard) and MDF (fine wood fraction), which determines their design quality, as well as proven reliability and strength.
    2. A wardrobe-table is a universal furniture for a person who spends a lot of time at his desk.
    3. It can provide hidden and secure storage of important documents, things, or become a shelf for a laptop.

    Taking into account the fact that there is often not enough free space in our apartments, a wardrobe-table can be a solution to this problem for the living room and personal office. During the day it can be used as a workplace, and at night it can serve as storage cells.

    Dresser bed

    The main advantages of a bed that can turn into a comfortable chest of drawers are:

    • freeing up free space in the bedroom due to the fact that linen, bedding, etc. can be stored at the base of the bed;
    • neat and aesthetic appearance;
    • reliable safety of things for sleeping, which come into less contact with the environment;
    • no hassle with drawers, from which it is difficult to get pillows and blankets.

    As for the minuses, there are only two of them.

    1. The first is that if you purchase a spring version, you will have to spend a lot of effort to raise the stock.
    2. The second is carrying capacity. Only the version with gas elements can withstand heavy loads.

    Various types of pull-out beds

    It is worth noting that the bed in the closet is not an invention of modern designers. This solution was invented at the very beginning of the 20th century. There is currently no shortage of innovative solutions. Beds are hidden not only in the closet, but also in other furniture and even in the wall.

    New models of some transformers have the ability to create modular systems. The design can be folded internally or deployed on external panels, creating additional functionality with available space. This type of furniture is used as additional cabinets or a work area.

    For the studio, a version of the transformer was developed, disguised under closed shelves. There are models with a single bed that turn into a chest of drawers or a table.

    Wall bed

    The main problem in small interiors is the need to place a lot of furniture in a small space. Even if the owner is an exceptional minimalist, he needs a sleeping bed in the apartment.

    This furniture is necessary in everyday life, but at the same time it takes up a lot of space. The best solution would be a wall bed or hidden in a closet. Thanks to this, you can save a lot of space and thereby optically enlarge the room. Moreover, the wall is not only functional, but also very convenient.

    Dining and sleeping area in one place

    Innovative interior design models made in a modern style are considered a successful addition to the decor. Folding furniture makes life easier by fundamentally transforming space. An integral part of the interior of small apartments has become a wall bed, which turns into a coffee table and a dining table for 4 people.

    This type of solution is a godsend for small spaces, especially studios where individual areas have limited space.

    Hidden baby bed

    Families living in a small apartment with children are always looking for furniture to equip the children's area without overloading the overall interior. With the advent of transformable furniture, you can easily transform one room into another. By hiding children's beds in the walls, we get a spacious living room and vice versa, we return everything to its place - in the bedroom.

    Bunk folding beds

    These beds are reminiscent of train racks, but the foldable design allows them to hide discreetly in the wall. Bed linen is easily hidden in the closet, and the room has a spacious and neat appearance.

    The top shelf is equipped with a safety lock that prevents it from falling.

    Bed in desk

    For a family with one child, a model with a desk is suitable. When folded, it resembles a small bar counter. By lifting the tabletop, we get a work surface and open the base - a single bed.

    Bookcase - bed

    Convertible beds do not always have only one function; there are options that can accommodate bookshelves and bedside tables. When choosing a folding bed with a swivel base, you do not need to lower the shelves every time before folding it. On the one hand, the bed lifting mechanism is stationary, on the other hand there are shelves and a bedside table, so you don’t have to tilt the entire base.

    Soft corner with sleeping function

    If the sleeping area is located in the living room, a corner sofa with a sleep function would be a good solution. This versatile solution provides comfort at night and elegance during the day. When space allows, you should choose a large corner with soft backs or pillows. This furniture has a large sleeping area and can easily be used by two adults.

    During the day, the folded corner turns into a comfortable sofa, ideally matched in height to the coffee table. This type of upholstered furniture guarantees significant space savings and will significantly change the layout and character of the interior, which will especially appeal to owners of a small apartment.

    Folding bed - sofa

    Multifunctional furniture can help solve the problem of lack of space. The easiest way is to install a folding sofa. At night it will become a full-fledged bed, and during the day – a comfortable place to relax.

    You can purchase models in different sizes - in the form of a single, double or triple bed. Large furniture will be useful for families with small children who happily sleep with their parents in the same bed.

    Sofas and soft corners can be made of cotton, linen and leather. The first two solutions are recommended for the bedroom, because both cotton and linen fabrics are highly breathable and absorb moisture, performing well even in hot weather.

    Folding bed with drawers

    A bed with drawers is most often available in a single or double version. Drawers can serve not only as a container for bed linen, but also as a convenient place to store clothes or cosmetics.

    Folding bed from wardrobe

    An ideal solution for small rooms where every centimeter is important. Beds hidden in the closet have a large sleeping surface. Modern solutions are functional and look much more impressive. A folding wardrobe bed is ideal for small rooms and studios.

    White folding bed

    Due to the great popularity of the Scandinavian style, more and more people prefer to buy white or pastel furniture. This trend extends to beds as well.

    A multifunctional folding white bed with additional drawers will not only delight you with its possibilities, but will also be ideal for the layout of modern rooms.

    Double folding bed

    By far the most commonly chosen type of trundle bed is the twin unit. These can be sofas, corners, beds with drawers or folding beds from the wardrobe. The latter have a very large sleeping surface and are easy to assemble - no need for a separate bedding container.

    More: How to choose the right bed

    Folding bed for bedroom

    In some situations, a folding bed can be a much more convenient solution, even in areas typically reserved for sleeping. Large beds take up a lot of space and will not necessarily fit in small bedrooms, where in addition to the bedroom furniture itself there are other interior design elements.

    A folding bed, folded during the day, will allow you to move freely around the bedroom, and at night it will become a full-fledged comfortable bed for relaxing. A large sleeping bed does not have the ability to be folded, so it also takes up a lot of space in the bedroom during the day.

    Wall bed - modern and stylish

    A pull-out bed may seem unattractive, but in practice, manufacturers excel in producing modern and fully functional furniture of this type.

    Their production uses high-quality raw materials and materials, which makes the comfort comparable to traditional beds. They also have style, with modern wardrobe beds being designer gems.

    With a variety of designs to choose from, you can easily find the perfect piece of furniture to complement your décor and become a real highlight.

    On what factors does the safety of a wardrobe bed depend?

    To begin with, let us outline a list of factors that determine the safety of transformers, these include:

    • system for lowering and raising the bed;
    • materials;
    • mechanism frames;
    • qualification of assemblers;
    • terms of Use.

    Bed lowering and raising system

    This is one of the most important factors on which the reliability, durability and, no less important, the safe operation of wardrobe beds directly depends. The heart of the system for lowering and raising the bed is the gas lifts; they take on the main weight of the bed and make the transformation process easy and smooth. It should be understood that the wardrobe beds are designed so that in the folded (vertical) state the beds stand behind the rotation axis of the gas lifts. That is, the same gas lifts that help to smoothly raise and lower the bed, when closed, reliably hold the bed in an upright position, since they constantly press on the bed in the direction of closing. This circumstance does not allow the bed to open spontaneously and creates the need for some effort at the very beginning of the process of opening the bed - it is necessary to overcome the initial resistance of the gas lift. This resistance disappears as soon as the bed is aligned with the axis of rotation of the gas lifts.

    An additional level of protection against lowering the bed can be a lock for opening the mechanism; it should be installed if the transformer is purchased for a children's room. After all, the fact that the transformer is securely held in a vertical position by gas lifts does not mean that children will not want to play with the transformation mechanism. The bed opening lock reliably protects children from such games.

    Materials

    Of course, the durability, reliability, and, accordingly, the safety of the transformers we are discussing are largely determined by the materials from which they are made. In this context, the material used to make the body of the wardrobe bed is very important. We strongly recommend wardrobe beds with a body made of 25mm thick laminated chipboard. The fact is that during the transformation process, the mechanism exerts significant pressure on the sides of the case, and if the case is made of thin laminated chipboard, 16 mm thick, then after a couple of years the structure of the wardrobe-bed may develop play due to constant loads. The 25 mm thick body can easily withstand the loads created by the transformer mechanism, due to which the wardrobe-bed can last for many years and will be completely safe in use.

    Mechanism frames

    If gas lifts are the heart of the wardrobe-bed transformation mechanism, then the frames are the body of the mechanism. There are two frames in the transformer - one lower one with slats (the mattress is placed on it) and one upper one, to which the lower frame is docked when the bed is closed.

    Manufacturers of wardrobe beds often use prefabricated frames; they are convenient for transportation, since they can easily fit in a box, but there is always a risk that over time the assembled frame elements may become loose, which will call into question the safety of the bed. We strongly recommend choosing wardrobe beds with all-welded frames, where all joints are reliably welded in advance by the manufacturer. Such frames will never become loose and will guarantee the safety of the transformable wardrobe-bed for many years.

    Installation of transformers is the prerogative of specialists

    There is a proverb: “The shoemaker should make the boots, and the cake maker should bake the cakes.” It is difficult to disagree with this folk wisdom in principle, and especially in relation to the installation of wardrobe beds that require fastening to the wall. Such transformers require strict adherence to the instructions for attaching furniture to the wall, so we recommend involving specialists in the assembly so that further use of the furniture is completely safe. If you order a transformer in Moscow or in the Moscow region, we recommend involving our specialists in the assembly of transformers. If you live in another city, then it is advisable to involve an organization specializing in furniture assembly.

    With wardrobe beds that do not require fastening to the wall, the situation is different. They are easy to assemble according to the diagram that comes with the furniture. Since the mechanisms of our transformers are all-welded, even an untrained person can usually assemble our furniture easily and simply. And most importantly, if mistakes are made during the assembly of a free-standing transformer, they will not in any way affect the safety of the furniture.

    Operating rules

    The operation of any furniture, including wardrobe-beds or wardrobe-beds-sofas, requires compliance with certain rules related to:

    • careful handling;
    • monitoring the serviceability of the lifting mechanism;
    • inadmissibility of independent repair work;
    • compliance with the manufacturer's recommendations for the mattress: according to its maximum weight and dimensions - this is especially true if the selected transformer model is not equipped with a mattress, and therefore you have to buy it additionally.

    It is impossible not to mention another significant factor in the safety of transformable furniture. We are talking about its manufacturers. After all, all other factors depend on them: the development of a safe design, strict adherence to production technologies, the use of high-quality, durable materials, the purchase of lifting mechanisms and other accessories from trusted suppliers.

    Transformable children's furniture: options

    The production of transformable furniture and children's rooms was not spared. Transformable children's furniture is one of the most common, since today children have a large number of toys and personal belongings.

    In addition to spaciousness, transformable furniture makes it possible to adapt to the age of the child.

    It is often not possible to renew a bed or table every few years. This problem can be easily solved by table-beds or folding extendable sofa beds.

    Peculiarities:

    1. Frees up the nursery and makes it more attractive for the child to play and spend time in it.
    2. Many models include the age category of children. Today it is a low table for drawing, and tomorrow it is a large table or cabinet for storing accessories, toys, or even an easel.
    3. Many transforming beds are adapted specifically for teaching children neatness and neatness. You can’t just push these places in if you don’t tuck them in properly and put them in the right place.
    4. The ability to modernize the design by adding additional modules according to the age of the growing child.

    There are also special beds that do not require maintenance. If a teenage child has a lot of friends, the best option would be a spacious bunk bed-table, which will create the right environment for children to spend time.

    Specialized medical transformers

    A transforming medical bed differs from a regular one in that it has adjustable sections, which allows the patient to be in the most comfortable position possible. There are 4 types of such products:

    1. Single-section - in them only the upper part is movable, which allows you to lower and raise a person’s head and shoulders.
    2. Two-section beds - together with the head section, there is a leg section, which is necessary for people with musculoskeletal problems.
    3. Three-section - allow you to change the position of the hip part.
    4. Four-section beds are considered optimal for bedridden disabled people, as they provide easy adjustment of the head, intermediate, hip, and leg sections.

    Popular types of accordion chair-beds, features

    Medical products are often equipped with additional elements that may be necessary for bedridden patients: side rails, stands, handles, toilet compartment, brake device. Separately, it is worth highlighting transformable beds for childbirth. For more than 30 years, horizontal structures have been used in hospitals, but today vertical models are also produced.

    Interesting ideas for a children's room

    A good solution for a child’s room is a table-bed, decorated in bright colors. This purchase eliminates the need to allocate additional space for the table.

    If two children live in the room, a sofa that transforms into a bunk bed is perfect for the room. A wardrobe-bed in which the folding beds are located next to each other is successfully used in such rooms.

    Another good option for a room with several children is when there is another single bed under the sleeping area of a simple bed. It is removed using a roll-out mechanism.

    Matryoshka beds for teenagers

    There are children who are afraid to sleep at heights, and it is not always possible to find space to install several beds in the house. To solve this problem, manufacturers came up with a matryoshka design. Visually, in the daytime it looks like a bed, slightly higher than usual, and in the evening additional sleeping places are pulled out of it.

    This model can have either two or three sleeping places located on different tiers. Often such beds are used in kindergartens, where it is also important to have a lot of free space for children to play and do.

    Transformable furniture wall with two bed-cabinets for a boy and a girl

    The designers came up with an option to hide the bed in the wall in an aesthetically pleasing and compact way. And for this purpose, models that transform into cabinets are used. Converting a bed into a closet is beneficial for small bedrooms or studio apartments where zones are combined with one another. The disadvantage of a wardrobe bed is that only a springless mattress is used. In some models, the manufacturer has thought out shelves and mezzanines.

    The mechanism of operation of a lifting bed with a folding table

    Transformable bed for newborns

    Cribs can be 6in1 or 4in1, and there are also models with up to eight elements. Depending on the configuration, in addition to the sleeping place, the product may include the following elements:

    • baby changing table;
    • chest of drawers and drawers;
    • cradle;
    • sofa (the bed is transformed in this way);
    • playpen;
    • table or chair.

    An optional canopy can be offered.

    There are actually quite a lot of transformation methods. Let's list some of the most common ones.

    • Add-on changing table. In this case, the changing table, when folded, is vertically leaning against the end side from the outside. If necessary, it is raised and fixed in a horizontal position.
    • With moving bottom. The base, if necessary, rises upward, resulting in a changing table.
    • With a playpen. In this case, the floor of the crib moves, it goes down, the walls move slightly apart by adding additional elements.
    • With the possibility of further use. Usually these are models with a chest of drawers or a wardrobe. If necessary, the chest of drawers can be removed to create an extended bed.
    • A chair and table can be obtained by dividing the crib into two halves. At the same time, the base of each half is set to a certain level.
    • The sofa can be obtained by removing one of the sides. In this case, the child will be able to rest in the crib during the day. This solution is suitable for older children.

    How to make a bed with your own hands

    Installation of a transformable bed consists of two points - first of all, you need to make a frame for the folding mechanism, and then - a sleeping place. On the Internet you can find ready-made dimensions for standard single and double models, but if you need other parameters, you will have to calculate them yourself. The Furniture Designer program will be an excellent assistant for this.

    Rigidly fix the strong metal strip to the wall with anchor bolts. This will be needed in order to strengthen the frame with metal corners.

    For the base of the frame, take two reliable boards - they perform a load-bearing function, the average length for standard shapes of transformer beds is about two meters. Along the edges, top and bottom, use glue and self-tapping screws to secure them with a cross board. Using adhesive and self-tapping screws, secure the casing to the finished frame.

    Remember - it is necessary that the depth of the box matches the thickness of the bed. In order not to end up with a box that does not contain the finished product, it is better to make it a few centimeters larger.

    Next, you can begin installing the folding bed. As a base, take plywood that meets the required parameters. In order to avoid damage and sagging of the material, strengthen it from below by installing four boards along and across the future product. For greater comfort, you can equip the base of the bed with various sides, but remember - nothing should interfere with the lifting mechanisms.

    The next step is attaching the frame to the wall. For a long service life of the finished product, choose only high-quality fasteners. Fix the folding part to the frame with hinges, and secure its free end with special fasteners - it is thanks to them that the transformer bed is kept folded and will not unexpectedly fall apart. If you varnish wooden surfaces, it is more advisable to do this while the folding part is not fixed to the frame.
