Pull-out and hanging baskets for cabinets - overview of models

An excellent alternative to the standard filling of a kitchen cabinet - stationary shelves - are drawers or entire multi-sectional modules. Furniture is much more convenient to use if they are installed. Each attribute has its own department. In one motion we pull it out and take out the necessary items. There is no clutter inside the closet, it becomes functional and spacious.

Guiding systems

To install drawers that slide out, you will first need guide systems. Fasteners are usually supplied with them.

You can easily order drawer guides with different load-bearing capacities from specialized stores. There are inexpensive mechanisms designed for loads of up to 10 kg. There are more durable ones that work properly with a load of up to 25 kg. For cabinet cabinet modules, models with a load-bearing capacity of up to 200 kg and more are available.

In terms of size, the choice is also large: from compact systems (150–200 mm) to those that extend to 803.5 mm, and this is not the limit.

There are mechanisms compatible with the automatic opening system (Push) and reverse dampers.

Roller

Roller systems are simple in design and installation. They are a set of metal corner strips with rollers - 4 pieces for one module. Two are attached to the body, two are attached to the box on the left and right sides, respectively. High-strength plastic rollers are responsible for sliding one bar over another.

The products are provided with through holes so that they can be securely attached to the walls of the case or drawer with screws.

Inexpensive. With an installation length of 300 mm and a load-bearing capacity of 25 kg, they cost between 80 and 110 rubles (a set of two guides).

Does not cause installation problems. The main thing is to apply the markings correctly, at the same level, and secure them firmly.

But they have significant disadvantages:

  • Impossibility of full extension;
  • Unreliability under increased loads;
  • Noise during operation.

Systems in which balls are responsible for module ejection and return stroke do not have these shortcomings.

Ball

They are also called telescopic. Consist of several planks. When we pull the drawer towards us by the handle, one section slides out from the other. Between them there are metal balls that promote sliding and easy extension.

More expensive than roller ones, but they allow full extension. They benefit from reliability, wear resistance, and work quietly.

You can buy this type of drawer guides with a load-bearing capacity of more than 250 kg and a length of 200 – 1000 mm. And additional fittings for them: open position clamps, Push system, shock absorbers.

White mesh baskets for wardrobe

The most inexpensive option for mesh metal baskets are the white classic models on roller guides. The cells of the mesh structure can be large or small. Baskets are also distinguished by three sizes - the height of the container, its depth and the width of the base. You need to be especially careful with the last size. If a drawer can be made to fit any size section of a wardrobe, then the baskets are built into a “base” of a certain width.

However, baskets can be assembled into separate racks using additional fittings and placed separately.

This option is especially convenient for dressing rooms - you can always move the rack with baskets to the right place.

For convenience, they can be equipped with wheels. And the baskets themselves have partitions inside.

  • The advantages of white mesh baskets include affordability and similarity to the design of mesh shelves. And also lightness and spaciousness.
  • The disadvantage is insufficient load-bearing capacity. This type of basket is not designed for heavy loads; you can store light items and linen in them. And also monotony in design.

Metaboxes and tandemboxes

Modernized roller guides - metaboxes. Includes metal walls. The container and the façade part are attached to them.

Tandemboxes are ball systems with sidewalls. Aluminum or durable steel, with a protective and decorative coating.

“Tandems” are fully retractable, adjustable, and equipped with latches and smooth automatic return devices.

The installation of drawers is planned when drawing up cabinet drawings. In some standard models they can be purchased as options upon request. But more often this applies to cabinets 2 meters wide or more with three doors. What should the owner of a small wardrobe do?

If there are no drawers in the purchased cabinet or there is a need for them during operation, build in an additional unit yourself. To do this, calculate the dimensions and select components. We'll tell you how to add drawers to your linen storage cabinet with your own hands.

Types of guide mechanisms

Retractable fittings for such kitchen compartments must have a special movable mechanism. Roller guides are often installed in rotary systems. They are considered the simplest and most budget option.

One roller guide is fixed to the inside of the basket. The second part is installed on the retractable part of the product. During installation, they are fastened together, which ensures the presence of a movable mechanism. It should be borne in mind that such systems will not be able to withstand too heavy loads (no more than 20-25 kilograms).

Location of drawers in the closet

The main advantage of assembling drawers in a ready-made cabinet is that you do not need to disassemble things, take it to a service center or call a specialist to your home for reconstruction. It's easy to do it yourself.

Selecting the location of the boxes:

  1. Separately from each other.
  2. In a module that is built into the wardrobe.

The disadvantage of the first type of arrangement is the difficulty of adjusting the guides after several years of use. When using the cabinet over time, the walls may bend. This leads to curvature of the compartment geometry and makes it difficult for the box to move freely along the guides.

The block-modular option is better because:

  • assembled outside the cabinet, makes work easier during installation;
  • Less dust is generated when built into a wardrobe, so you don’t have to put things away.

It is advisable to install the module no higher than 1 meter from the floor. If there is no space in a compartment with shelving shelves, then place it in a niche with a barbell under the hangers. When determining the location, remember that the door side hinges should not interfere with the extension of the box. Therefore, consider the distance between them. And in wardrobes, do not place the block-modular structure close to the intersection of the sliding doors.

Storage systems for linen - how to organize

The recommendations from this section will help you properly organize laundry storage using baskets:

  • Decide on the volume of things . Based on this, calculate the required capacity of the structure;
  • Understand the sizes of things . Large baskets are needed for bedding sets, smaller ones for towels and other small items;
  • Decide what materials will be used to build the dressing area . You can make a completely mesh design, it is easy to use and light in weight;

Mesh version of the open cabinet

  • Place items in convenient places , especially for baskets for things you use often. Consider zoning the space.

Convenience is important when planning a storage system

Calculation of the lengths of walls and drawer fronts (block-modular version)

Before you start making parts, take measurements of the finished cabinet and make calculations based on them (see the instructions for an example). To eliminate errors in the lengths and heights of retractable boxes, calculate them separately.

Instructions for calculating the lengths of walls and facades

As a basis, we will take the design of a wardrobe niche with dimensions (VShG): 400 mm x 500 mm x 500 mm. Calculation steps for manufacturing a block of drawers:

  1. Make the upper and lower parts of the compartment 500 mm in length and width, in the amount of 2 pieces.
  2. Calculate the length of the walls at 368 mm. From the total height, subtract the thickness of two chipboard sheets. Make calculations using the formula: 400 mm - (16 mm x 2 pieces = 32 cm).
  3. Take 480 mm for the width of the module sides (allocate 20 mm for the façade).

Knowing the dimensions of the compartment walls, make boxes.

  1. Take 450 mm for the length of the side of the box.
  2. Make the rear panel 410 mm. Calculate this size using the formula for adding the thicknesses of all chipboards and the gaps for the guides: 500 mm - (16 mm x 4 pcs. + 13 mm x 2 pcs.). 13 mm is the gap for installing guides on both sides.
  3. Subtract 4 mm from the dimensions along the outer perimeter for the gaps: 500 mm - (2 mm x 2 pcs) = 496 mm.
  4. Make the bottom smaller than the box by 1 mm on each side.

Important! The bottom of the drawer can be made of fiberboard, but if heavy items will be stored in it, plywood should be used.

Calculation of the height of drawer parts

After determining the lengths of the module walls and drawers, calculate the height of the latter.

  1. Make the minimum gap between the fronts of two drawers 30 mm. This distance will allow your fingers not to touch the next shelf when opening, if the front is without handles. If they are provided, then reduce the gaps to 3 mm.
  2. Make the side and back walls the same height. The height of the drawers depends on how many of them there will be in the compartment. For example, for the dimensions of this module, make two drawers with walls from 80 mm to 150 mm.

Important! When all the parts are ready and fastened, roll up the end ends with melamine edge.

Mounting options for retractable baskets

To make using the system convenient, the guides should be installed correctly; different options are used for these purposes; we will discuss them in this section.

Roller guides

This option has the following advantages:

  • Cheap . You won’t find a cheaper solution, so if every penny counts, then this solution will come in handy. The set costs less than a hundred rubles, although if the depth of the cabinet is large, it will cost a little more;

Roller elements are the cheapest

  • Simplicity . The design consists of two parts, one of them is attached to the side wall of the cabinet compartment, and the second to the basket through special fasteners, which we will discuss below. It is very easy to remove the basket from its place and then put it back, just roll it out as far as it will go and slightly lift it up so that the roller comes out of the slide;
  • Variety of sizes . The length of the guides varies from 250 to 550 mm, all options are shown in the diagram below. You can choose the appropriate option for almost all compartments, the main thing is to take measurements in advance to know what exactly you need.

Size range of roller guides

There are also disadvantages:

  • Low reliability . Under loads, the guides are easily deformed, the plastic rollers fall apart;
  • Play in the design . Even new elements are not arranged tightly, and this is the norm for this type of product;
  • Limited extension . The baskets do not move out completely, which can create inconvenience during use.

As for the installation process, everything is simple:

  • To get started, read the installation instructions . It indicates the distances from the edge and the necessary gaps between the baskets if you place them in several tiers. Most often they are located approximately along the bottom edge of the elements;
  • Draw lines in the closet to create a guideline for your work . It is important to make them horizontal, so it is easiest and most convenient to use a building level for work;
  • Secure the guides to the walls . For work, 3.5x16 mm self-tapping screws are used; they do not come out from the back side of the plate and reliably fix the counter part. Holes for fasteners do not need to be drilled, but can be pre-made using a 2.5 mm drill. Here it is important not to be too zealous so as not to drill through the furniture;
  • Secure the basket using special elements . They are attached to the guide and snap onto the wire frame;

This is how the guide is attached to the basket

  • The basket slides neatly into the cabinet guide. The sliding mechanism is checked, if everything is fine, the work is successfully completed.

Result of work

Ball guides

A more reliable option with the following advantages:

  • Smooth ride . The baskets do not dangle and move smoothly, there is practically no play;
  • Reliability . The option is much more wear-resistant and durable, it works for a long time and even under significant loads lasts for years;
  • Extension to the end . The basket slides out completely, which makes it convenient to use. All things are easy to put in and take out;
  • Variety of sizes . You can find an option for any cabinet.

Reliable and durable option

The only downside is the higher cost compared to roller versions, but if you compare the quality and service life, the price is completely justified.

Installation is in many ways similar to the work described above, so let’s look at it in general terms:

  • The wardrobe is marked with guides . Their lower part is usually located approximately level with the bottom of the basket;
  • The fixed part is attached to the cabinet walls . For work, short screws and a screwdriver are used, usually there are from 4 to 7 screws per element, depending on the length of the guide;
  • The basket is attached to the moving part . This is done either using special fasteners included in the kit, or using universal plastic clamps, there is not much difference.

Attaching the basket to the guide

Baskets with side mounting

Sometimes you need to secure the basket only to the side; this option is used for options of great depth and when placing narrow, tall elements in pairs in one compartment.

There is no particular difference in the installation process, only here two guides are placed on one side and the basket is subsequently attached to them. Everything is quite simple, the main thing is to take the correct measurements and evenly attach the elements to the furniture.

Guides on the side wall

Side fastening is often used for shoe structures; it allows shoes to be placed conveniently and easily.

This is how retractable elements are placed under shoes

Clips for fastening the basket

To place the basket on any type of guides, special clips are used; let’s look at them in more detail:

IllustrationDescription

The retainer is made of plastic . On one side there is a clamp that secures the wire frame of the basket, and on the other there is a plastic block into which self-tapping screws are screwed, which secure the element to the hanging elements.

This is how the clips are attached to the roller guides . They are fixed with self-tapping screws, which are screwed in from the reverse side through the holes that are already in the products.

This is how it is attached to the roller guides . The self-tapping screw is screwed in through the lower protrusion.

Calculation of drawers (built-in version)

As an example of calculation, let's take a cabinet niche with dimensions W*D*H=600*550*784mm. The calculation is made for internal boxes of the same size in the amount of 4 pieces.

Facade dimensions

The minimum allowable gap between drawer fronts is 2mm. You need to retreat another 2mm from the top and bottom shelves, between which the drawers are located. Thus, the maximum height of the facade is:

Vn – niche height;

Kf – number of facades.

In our case we get:

It is not advisable to make drawer fronts larger than this value, since they can cling to each other.

Side wall height

If the bottom of the box is overhead, and 3mm thick HDF will be used as the material, then the minimum distance from the bottom of the facade should be 5mm (3mm on HDF+2mm of gap).

If the bottom of the drawer is inserted into grooves, or is made of laminated chipboard, then the minimum distance from the bottom of the facade to the bottom of the sidewall can be reduced to 2 mm.

The minimum distance from the top of the facade is 2mm, but usually it is made a little more, from 10mm. This does not play a significant role in storing things, but it allows you to reduce the weight of the box and, accordingly, the load on the guides, which increases their service life. In addition, the height of the sidewalls and back wall can be varied to obtain optimal cutting.

Thus, the maximum height of the side of the drawer is:

Vb=Vf-7 – for an overhead bottom made of LDVP;

Vb=Vf-4 – for the inner bottom made of laminated chipboard or LDVP.

Depth

The depth of the inner drawer should not exceed the depth of the niche, that is, in our case, 550 mm. However, for ease of closing, it is customary to leave a gap between the sides and the back wall, the size of which varies as desired. The thickness of the façade should also be taken into account.

Thus, the depth of the side of the drawer is:

Gn – niche depth;

Tf – thickness of laminated chipboard facade;

Гз – gap depth.

Let's calculate the depth of the sidewall for our case:

REFERENCE. Quite often, especially in serial products, the depth of the cabinet side is chosen based on the length of the guides. This allows the drawer to be pulled out completely and provides easy access to its contents.

Rear wall dimensions

The height of the back wall is usually equal to the height of the sides of the box:

Storage system for the kitchen. Pull-out baskets for cabinets

Arranging a kitchen is not easy, because in one room it is important to achieve harmony between the design unity of the interior, convenience, aesthetic appearance, functionality of furniture and ergonomics of space in the kitchen.

The question of rational use of usable space in the kitchen arises when the house or apartment has a small kitchen area, in which it is almost impossible to fit all the necessary items, dishes and kitchen utensils. In such cases, a mobile storage system for the kitchen plays the role of a real lifesaver. This is the only reasonable way to wisely use the space in a small room.

Retractable system: what is it?

Pull-out systems for the kitchen are the only right choice that solves the problem of lack of space in the kitchen. A variety of retractable systems allows you to choose a model to suit the interior space of any bedside table or cabinet.

Boxes, baskets and shelves of different sizes; angular vertical and horizontal; pull-out tables and seats - all this is a new generation of pull-out or transformable furniture, thanks to which you can create the kitchen of your dreams.

A kitchen storage system is a great way to ergonomically arrange the most visited place in the house – the kitchen. Every housewife spends most of her free time here. Therefore, the cooking process should be comfortable and unobtrusive, and the meal should be enjoyable.

The role of the retractable system in modernizing the kitchen

Every housewife strives to create comfort in the kitchen. Even if you make a chic renovation, but the organization of the space is not ergonomic, the kitchen looks cluttered. After all, no housewife can do without kitchen utensils, dishes, and household appliances.

Until recently, this problem was solved by installing wall shelves, but it did not look very aesthetically pleasing. Today, there is an alternative and more cost-effective way to hide everything that you don’t want your guests to see during their visit, and at the same time solve the problem of lack of usable space in the kitchen - hidden kitchen storage systems.

How to choose a retractable system?

You can buy a kitchen with a sliding system in a store, order an individual project and equip it as you wish, or try to upgrade an old kitchen set into a more modern one. This way of saving space is one of the simplest and most common methods.

Such designs are mounted inside a hanging cabinet or floor stand. When the front is opened, the kitchen storage system, consisting of one or more drawers, slides out, opening access to the contents of the shelves on which a variety of kitchen utensils can be stored.

The peculiarity of installation is the location of frequently used items closer to the work area. For example, under the countertop it is convenient to place a horizontal multi-level section with cutlery, dishes, and equipment for cutting fish, meat and other food products. Near the stove it would be appropriate to place a section with large compartments intended for storing frying pans, pots, baking trays and other kitchen utensils.

Features of retractable systems

The kitchen storage system allows you to make the most of every centimeter of the kitchen, without cluttering up the space, but being placed compactly, while at the same time accommodating all the necessary kitchen utensils.

The main feature of this design is the increase in usable space without the need to increase the area of the room. Using such a system, anyone will be able to implement the most daring design projects even in a tiny kitchenette.

The secret of the coordinated operation of the system is in the functioning mechanism, in which the closer plays an important role. Thanks to it, the drawers roll out completely, which allows you to fill the shelf to the maximum or easily remove the necessary thing from it. At the same time, the cell does not fall out, does not sag and does not spoil the surface of the façade of the kitchen unit when closed. Quiet operation and smooth operation of the mechanism are ensured thanks to modern fittings and the functioning of closers in the opening system.

The convenience of such a system is that if you open just one door, a whole row of cells slides out, which allows the housewife to get any necessary items in one movement.

Types of kitchen drawers in pull-out systems

Pull-out baskets for cabinets differ depending on the internal filling. They differ:

  • by size;
  • by filling;
  • by type of installation;
  • by position relative to the floor.

Horizontal sliding systems for the kitchen are used for storing:

  • cutlery;
  • dishes;
  • kitchen equipment;
  • small household appliances;
  • spices and herbs;
  • food products;
  • fruits and vegetables.

As an analogue, if appropriate, instead of a horizontal section, install a vertical, so-called bottle holder. The difference from the previous system is only in the parameters: the standard width of the bottle holder is 15-20 cm. In such a cabinet with a drawer you can store alcoholic beverages, vegetable oils, household chemicals for kitchen cleaning and much more. A kitchen bottle holder with a closer can be easily installed where a regular cabinet will not fit.

An interesting solution to increase functionality is pull-out baskets for cabinets. For such purposes, wicker baskets are most often used, which, in addition to their main tasks, do an excellent job with additional ones. So, with the help of such an original system it is easy to decorate the kitchen, thereby creating an extravagant accent point. Depending on the style of the interior, you can use textile baskets with a metal body, straw, wood or wicker baskets for storing vegetables in the kitchen.

The basket is mounted in a pull-out shelf, which, sliding along the guides, rolls out and easily returns to its original position.

The location of the basket on the floor level depends on the functional purpose.

Non-standard retractable systems: variations on a theme

In addition to horizontal and vertical sections (bottle holders), as well as baskets for storing baked goods or vegetables, the kitchen has a section designed for storing small household appliances, as well as devices that facilitate the processing and cutting of products.

Let's take a look at some of the departments that, according to experts, occupy leading positions when choosing component units for storage systems.

Pull-out cutting board

A retractable cutting board is mounted in a cabinet or under a countertop, thereby expanding it. This design is complemented by an integral accessory - a container into which it is convenient to sweep away crumbs or leftover fruits and vegetables.

If the size of the countertop and the area of the kitchen allow it, you can mount not just one replaceable board for food processing under the countertop, but several at once: made of wood, plastic or other materials.

Dining area for two

It is easy to install a pull-out table under the tabletop. Such an addition to the kitchen will become indispensable, especially if there is no space in the kitchen to create a full-fledged dining area. The retractable table can be mounted under the tabletop or in drawers placed underneath it.

"Carousel" in the kitchen

This design is mounted in corner cabinets, and externally resembles the Latin letter L. The design received its name due to the opening mechanism. It is mounted to the inside of the door or the side of the cabinet, which, when opened, allows the structure to move completely out. Such systems provide universal sections that are suitable for storing any items.

Pull-out trash bin

Traditionally, the trash can is hidden under the sink. With the advent of retractable systems, designers proposed an innovative system for operating the trash can. Now there is no need to look under the sink every time to throw out trash; just open the door and the trash can will come out on its own.

Such structures are mounted on guides that are attached to the inner surface of the cabinet or to the cabinet door. Interesting! Some models of garbage containers are equipped with a special lifting mechanism that allows you to automatically lift the basket lid when the door is opened.

The place where a woman spends most of her time is the kitchen. Devices for storing all necessary items, food and kitchen utensils, mounted in a kitchen set to the maximum, are a real treasure, and a well-groomed and tidy kitchen is a real pride.

The retractable system will help modernize the kitchen, make the room as comfortable and cozy as possible, and bring to life the most interesting design solutions.

Drawer guides

  1. Roller. This is the cheapest type. Its disadvantages lie in the incomplete removal of most of the box. They also make loud noises when leaving or entering.
  2. Ball. This is a telescopic type of guide. There are two subtypes: regular and enhanced. The height of regular ones is 35 mm (for light laundry: socks, belts, etc.), reinforced ones are 45 mm (for heavy laundry).

Marking for guides

The thickness of the guides is the same and equal to 13 mm. Select the length according to the side wall, a multiple of 50 mm in the smaller direction. For example, if the width of the above compartment is 480 mm, then select the guides at 450 mm. Install them after assembling the box and bottom.

Attach roller-type guides to the bottom of the drawer. And install telescopic ones in the center of the sidewalls.

Mark the location for the guides on the inside of the module walls, and on the drawers - on the outside.

Organization of internal storage space in drawers in the kitchen

When you pull out a drawer and push it back, everything placed inside it also flops back and forth. Sound familiar? It's time to end this.

What do you think about adding dividers to your drawers? After all, now you have already decided what is stored where and with the help of special dividers you can fix each item in its place.

By analogy, “fixed” storage in drawers in the kitchen can be done using homemade partitions made of plywood and even thick cardboard. But you can also purchase ready-made plastic partitions at the famous Leroy Merlin hypermarket. They can be easily removed if you want to wash or change them.

By the way, storage strictly perpendicular to the sides in drawers in the kitchen is not the only possible option. It is quite possible to arrange the partitions diagonally! What is especially valuable if cutlery of different lengths is stored in one drawer at the same time: both which would be better placed across, and which only fit in length.

Drawer handles

Furniture handles for a closet can be made in three ways:

  • Cut-out. Oval cutout at the top of the drawer front. Cover the cut with melamine edge.
  • Railing. For facades longer than 450 mm. Attach them with screws to the facade. When determining the length of the drawer walls and the front, take into account the distance between the front and the handle so that it does not stick out and allows the cabinet door to close.
  • Mortise. Save useful cabinet space. Installation: make a cutout in the facade with a milling cutter. Insert the handle into the groove and secure it from the inside.

Last but not least, we should mention the castles. To lock the drawer, use a furniture lock. It is more reliable than overhead and looks aesthetically pleasing.

Instructions for manufacturing a vertical retractable module:

  1. Determine the dimensions based on the interior niche of the cabinet. The height of the structure can be from 1 to 1.5 meters. Depth up to 50 cm. Now you can attach drawers to it.
  2. When making boxes, take into account the dimensions of the chipboard board, so make the length of one box less than the entire finished structure by 3.2 cm (1.6 cm on each side). The shelf width varies from 30 to 50 cm.
  3. Screw the wheels to the bottom.
  4. Make the back wall and sides. Drill grooves for future shelves. At the same time, fix the wheels so that they do not move while working on the walls.
  5. Attach the shelves to the structure using nails or use two timbers on either side of the structure on which to install the shelves. Now take it off, clean it from dust and put it back on.

Attention! To make the drawers and cabinet, laminated chipboard was used as a base, but such structures can be made from wood, MDF or plywood.

Waste sorting system

Many people associate waste sorting with the obligation to have a separate storage room with containers for this. And this stops many families: there is no space for containers, and they don’t want to store everything in bags on the balcony.

But in fact, waste sorting can be placed in storage systems that will act as decorative elements of your home, and no one will even guess what is inside. For example, you can use the Trufast system, which is generally designed for storing children's toys, but it is also perfect for sorting.

The Kallax system with Drena drawers also does not stand out visually, but is quite spacious. And it can be placed in any part of your home. In narrow and confined spaces, you can use a wall-mounted folding shoebox and store waste there.

And of course, if space still allows, it is convenient to organize containers for each faction in the pantry or on the balcony.

Selection of retractable systems for the kitchen

You should choose retractable structures for the kitchen only after familiarizing yourself with their types and variations of fittings, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, you should focus on appearance. Retractable systems should fit well into the interior of the kitchen. It is desirable that their colors either match or be combined with the style of the rest of the furniture.

The retractable system should be in harmony with the overall style of the kitchen

Don’t forget about the fittings of these structures. It is necessary that it can withstand the entire load. Roller guides in this regard are the most impractical due to their low reliability. However, the price of drawers with such fittings will be budget-friendly.

The most expensive solution is the cargo system. After all, this is a solid structure that is built into furniture. It features increased reliability and high functionality.

The cargo system is highly reliable

Designs with ball guides and metabox fittings are intermediate options. They are quite reliable and can withstand a load of up to 30 kg, which is quite enough for kitchen conditions. They have a silent move, and also have the ability to customize the fittings. In terms of price, such solutions will be more expensive than roller guides, but cheaper than solid cargo systems.

The dimensions of retractable kitchen systems are also important. They must completely occupy the niche intended for them. If the structure is larger, it simply will not fit into the corresponding box, and it is not possible to shorten it.

With smaller dimensions everything is simpler. In this case, the drawer system will not be able to be secured on both sides of the drawer if it is built into it. The load on the structure will increase, which will negatively affect its lifespan. As a result, it will become beyond repair.

But the internal structure of the box can be rearranged so that the pull-out structure is securely attached. But this will take a certain amount of time and also require materials, tools and appropriate skills.

However, with dimensions everything is simpler, because retractable systems for the kitchen are most often made in classic sizes, which include standard drawers. Therefore, the main emphasis should be on appearance, purchase budget, fittings and reliability. But also take into account the dimensions. With this approach to selection, you will be able to choose the best option for the kitchen.

Box functionality

Drawers are a must-have attribute of any wardrobe. They are designed to store light and small items. For example, folded shirts or knitwear are often placed on shelves, and in drawers, things that are used infrequently or are not intended for prying eyes at all.

For example, the following are often placed in boxes:

  • T-shirts, ties, underwear;
  • tights, socks, knee socks, scarves;
  • documents (small folders);
  • jewelry and other valuables;
  • any silk items.

Drawers can extend 100% or 80%. Depending on this, they are called full extension compartments or simple drawers.

There are also models with and without a guide closer for smooth closing and opening. Drawers with closers can be chosen for a closet located in the bedroom, where unnecessary noise and creaks are undesirable.

Sometimes, instead of drawers, retractable furniture baskets (roller, bearing or with a closer) are also used. In this case, things are visible to everyone and it’s easier to choose them.

Cabinet material

The boxes are made from the same material as the furniture, that is, from MDF, chipboard, chipboard, natural wood. The heavier the items you plan to store in the boxes, the more reliable the sheet of wood for its bottom should be. Standard sheet thickness is 16-18 mm.

Drawer sizes

The height of the drawers is approximately 20-25 cm and depends on the height of the facades that should be installed on them. The side and back walls are usually the same height. Shallow drawers (for example, for accessories) can be about 12 cm high.

The depth of the drawer is from 50-55 cm. If you decide to order a built-in wardrobe, you can place it in an existing niche and increase the depth of the drawers and shelves. The width of the drawer should be slightly smaller than the size of the cabinet in which it will slide.

Design Features

Drawers provide a single space for storing things. But you can order a cross that will delimit this zone into four parts. This is very convenient for storing small items (belts, ties, etc.).

Advantages of the box design:

  • complete protection of things from dust and sunlight;
  • large storage space;
  • the ability to use separators;
