The style of the loft strongly emphasizes its industrial origin.

Greetings, my dear readers.

Recently, homes are increasingly decorated in the loft style. This direction is interesting because it combines order and chaos, new and old, features of residential and industrial space.

Decorating a hall, kitchen or hallway in the spirit of a loft is not at all difficult. However, difficulties arise with the bedroom, because this room is intended for relaxation and sleep. Therefore, the main element in the bedroom should be a comfortable and convenient bed. Let's figure out how to make it an integral part of a rather rough “attic” style.

Bed dimensions

Beds can have one bed or be double. If the width is from 80 to 100 cm, then we are talking about a single-bed structure. However, manufacturers may differ from each other in the variety of size ranges.

Double beds are about 140-160 cm wide. The length of the model is determined depending on the age of the person: a preschooler will fit 160 cm, a teenager will need a 190-centimeter place to rest, adults need models above.

Varieties

Often the loft style is used to decorate children's rooms. The loft bed is popular. In some cases, the optimal model is a design with a cabinet.

A place for resting and sleeping is located above the closet or to the side, with a work desk underneath it. You can get to the top using the built-in staircase. Compactness and functionality are considered the highlight of such beds.

The sofa bed captivates with its chic appearance and simplicity of execution. Design solutions are characterized by straightness of forms.

The material used is solid wood or metal with decorative forged parts. Models are upholstered in leather or fabric of various shades. Evidence of the style is the external illusory age of the materials.

Due to the unpredictability of the loft, the bed may end up in a completely unusual place, on a hill. The podium for it is made, for example, from pallets, which is practical and inexpensive. You can also make a concrete base. Factory-designed beds are equipped with an impressive number of linen drawers.

The most unusual solution for loft-style beds is the location under the ceiling. There can be several options: in the corner or right in the center of the ceiling. Special suspensions allow you to place even a double bed on top, thereby saving a significant amount of space under it. The latest models are equipped with automatic lifting mechanisms that allow height adjustment.

Colors and appearance

To achieve maximum approximation to the style, it is necessary to pay attention to the selection of colors and the quality of materials used to create the interior. The original style is characterized by gray, beige, brown and other natural shades. They will maximally emphasize the simplicity and comfort of the room. With such shades it is easy to combine various interior items.

One of the interesting interior items in a loft bedroom is the canopy. However, it uses dense, coarsely woven fabrics or light, plain textiles. It is better to put a bedspread or tanned animal skin on the bed itself if there is wood in the interior. The skins are also used for bedside rugs. The selection of textiles for the sleeping area is no less important. When decorating a bedroom, it is important to adhere to several rules:

  1. Soft suede is only appropriate for decorative pillows and bedspreads;
  2. For bed linen, natural fabrics are considered ideal: linen, cotton in calm shades without patterns or ornaments;
  3. Basic colors for the bed: white, gray, beige, brown.

Shiny fabrics and bright rich colors are not compatible with the loft style.

Headboard options

An original design find may well make the headboard the highlight of the entire interior. If the sleeping place is located on a podium, then an ordinary curved board, the same width as the pedestal and up to a meter high, will become an excellent headboard. It can be varnished or left in its original form, nailed to the wall. If fabric or leather is used for finishing, it makes sense to use the same material for upholstering the headboard.

Another option, somewhat reminiscent of a picket fence, involves the use of vertical slats. By knocking them into a single canvas, with or without gaps, we get an originally decorated sleeping place. Above the bed, on the wall or directly on the ceiling, black and white photos will look interesting.

Supporters of naturalness may like a headboard in the form of a brick wall, against which a sleeping place is attached. This unplastered brick wall will hint at a loft. It makes sense to cover it with a protective varnish.

For metal beds, metal headboards are optimal: tubes bent and welded into a single structure, a simple metal sheet with rivets or patches (more precisely, with their imitation).

If you subject the headboard to artificial aging, full compliance with the style will certainly be achieved. In addition, you can additionally apply symbols or inscriptions of those years on the surface of the bed when the style in question originated and gained momentum.

Loft features

The word "loft" is translated from English as "attic". This design direction arose in the USA during the Great Depression (20–30s of the 20th century). Then the owners of industrial enterprises closed them due to a severe financial crisis.

The “attic” style is characterized by unlined brick walls and exposed floor beams.

The empty areas of the factories soon began to be inhabited by homeless creative intelligentsia. The new residents had wild imaginations but empty pockets. Therefore, they placed in the premises any objects that could be used as furniture:

  1. As a result, the home looked like an abandoned factory floor, warehouse or attic.
  2. This is an almost empty square, with walls made of unlined bricks.
  3. The floors, beams and supports remain bare and speak of the room's factory past.

Distinctive features of the style

Use only natural materials
It could be:
  • solid wood;
  • metal;
  • brick blocks;
  • glass;
  • natural stone. These materials are used in the design of the bedroom and the bed itself.

Minimum number of partitions
Ideally, a loft-style home is a studio apartment.

However, the style is characterized by a multi-tiered arrangement of interior items and furniture.

For example, a ladder often leads to a place to sleep.

Simplicity, lack of rich decoration and decor.
Deliberate carelessness of design will turn the bed into the central element of the bedroom.

Dominance of convenience and comfort.
The loft is very deceptive. It allows for any configuration of a sleeping place: on a wooden base, on a metal frame, on hanging cables, etc.

However, the main style requirements:

  • so that the bed is comfortable;
  • the lighting suggested the size of the bedroom;
  • and there would be a warm rug next to the sleeping place.

Style colors
The loft style uses rich, warm and bright natural colors:
  • all shades of brown, for example - brick red, chocolate, etc.;
  • all suitable tones of yellow;
  • range of green colors;
  • a palette of blue, especially its dark tones;
  • all shades of red;
  • dark gray. In addition, the loft does not reject the basic colors - white and black.

Deliberate rudeness.
Do not try to disguise pipe communications, support pillars and columns in the room, as well as its ceilings.

This is a special loft chic.

Characteristic nuances of style

Loft is a special style in the interior, which is characterized by simplicity, practicality and minimalism. He was born in America during the financial crisis, when the vacated attics of closed enterprises began to be occupied by poor creative intellectuals with great flights of imagination. They placed in the attics everything that could be used as furniture. The result was an interior that looked more like a cluttered corner with unfinished walls.

There are a number of features by which you can accurately determine the loft:

  1. Use only natural materials (wood, brick, glass, stone, metal);
  2. Minimalism and multi-level placement of furniture;
  3. Simplicity in design and finishing. For example, a mattress can be placed on pallets, inside of which many small items can be placed;
  4. Convenience and maximum comfort. No matter how the bed is positioned, it is important that the mattress is comfortable, the rug is soft, and the room is well lit.

When decorating a loft room, a designer can deviate from the canons and add one or two elements that do not correspond to the chosen idea. The main thing is that the object matches the color palette. When placing furniture, you should not try to hide pipes and ceilings - they acquire a special chic in a non-standard interior and become part of the idea.
