Scandinavian minimalism
As you know, residents of Scandinavian countries are characterized by rationalism in home arrangement. They furnish their homes simply, naturally and without frills.
What features does Scandinavian style furniture have:
- Lack of decor;
- Naturalness of materials;
- Light shades;
- Practicality of solutions;
- Simple forms.
Combine wood furniture and natural fabrics, thereby giving the room harmony, comfort and the effect of being close to nature.
Tables
Tables are the centers of rooms. Such items may differ no less in functionality than in design. Among them you can find such unusual representatives that you will want to immediately purchase them for your home. One of them is the “Megalith Table”, which was created as a result of the most complex calculations of the designers. This measure was necessary in order to make the table stable despite its apparent fragility. The strength of this creation is beyond doubt: even very heavy things can be placed on it.
The glass tabletop complements the overall impression of lightness and weightlessness. “Megalith Table” is suitable for different designs: this unusual table looks equally appropriate in the Scandinavian style, in avant-garde apartments, and in rooms a la expressionism or romanticism.
The “UP Balloon Table”, which was released after the release of the cartoon “Up,” looks no less airy and conceptual. This coffee table allows you to feel the lightness of the morning and evokes dreams of distant lands and travel.
Balcony tables are gaining popularity, allowing city residents to have meals on the balcony, enjoying the city views without leaving the apartment. For this purpose, several options have been developed that are attached to the balcony and unfolded only when necessary. Such ergonomic solutions are now at their peak.
Doors-tennis tables are not inferior in terms of space saving. They will be useful for those who want to play table tennis as often as they want, but cannot afford to visit sports clubs. A small transformation makes it possible to flip the door leaf horizontally, after which each player, being in the next room, has enough space to play.
The table called “Abyss”, which is made of laminated glass and wood, looks unusual and unique. The glass has an indigo tint of varying intensities, so this piece of furniture is reminiscent of outer space and the abysses of the universe.
Another model that can save space in a room, but at the same time provide a large tabletop for a large number of people, is the miracle table. Its tabletop becomes 2.5 times larger after a simple transformation, during which individual segments are supplemented with elements hidden from view.
Experimental modern
Nothing can replace modern style in the interior. They are not afraid to mix materials and structures.
What is remarkable about the Art Nouveau style:
- Graceful forms;
- Practicality;
- Convenience and functionality;
- Versatility: such furniture is suitable for rooms of any size.
Popular trends and styles
There are three popular trends in furniture design:
- Historical - this includes styles that were formed in a certain era: Empire, Baroque, classic. To transform a room in one of them, you need to have a large area. Furniture designers working in a historical direction must clearly highlight 2 main features - luxury and romance;
- Ethnic - each style of direction carries the culture of a certain people. You can create the atmosphere of the African savannah, the rich East or Japanese minimalism in any room;
- Contemporary - Over time, styles mix to create amazing new designs. Functionality comes first in any style of the new world. The design of the room can be bright or, on the contrary, minimalist. Clear boundaries, straight lines, absence of small details are the hallmarks of high-tech.
Each direction combines several styles that have similarities and differences. Designer furniture has a huge number of types and subtypes. In this regard, it is easy to find an option that is suitable for a particular room in all respects.
Romance of Provence
This style is associated with a warm summer day somewhere in the French countryside. It creates the effect of lightness and airiness.
This is achieved thanks to:
- Pastel colors, mostly white.
- Furniture with an antique effect, which adds French romance, warmth and positive energy to the interior.
In combination with textile decorative elements, as well as carved figurines, ceramics, baskets and candlesticks, Provence style furniture will look very organic.
Riva 1920 Molletta
Clothespin bench
This unusual bench made of solid cedar is made in the shape of a clothespin. Designers Paolo & Michela Baldessarri talk about the model: “The Molletta bench, playing on the typical custom quality of pop art, gives a very natural interpretation of cedar wood. The object thus acquires a double life: firstly, it is a spacious seat, designed for spacious interiors or outdoors. Secondly, it is a powerful sculptural element capable of defining the identity of the surrounding space. The giant clothespin also pays homage to the simple and anonymous design that we have always had in our everyday home life.”
The model is available in three sizes.
Molletta's aesthetic strength owes much to the skillful craftsmanship of solid wood that is part of the Riva factory tradition. Angled cuts bring out the grain and tones of natural cedar, creating a unique texture throughout the property.
Fashionable loft
Furniture that is gaining popularity and is used in trendy interiors. This style tends towards minimalism, so decorative elements are alien to it.
The lack of decor, however, does not prevent loft-style furniture from looking luxurious, emphasizing the good taste of the owners.
Characteristic elements of style:
- Furniture on wheels;
- Simplicity of forms;
- Disguising furniture as other objects. For example, a cabinet disguised as a soda fountain.
- Untreated wood;
- The use of unusual materials (pallets, frames from old sewing machines, etc.)
In the best loft traditions, furniture elements should not be in harmony with each other. After all, it takes its origins in factories and factories, and the workers did not have time to select chairs to match the style of the table.
Peculiarities
Designer furniture is exclusive. Branded products are manufactured in limited quantities and using special technologies. A furniture designer can create one piece over many months. The master puts in maximum effort and imagination. The result is unusual pieces: glowing sofas, ball-shaped chairs, bent tables.
Designer products differ from factory ones, and in a positive way:
- High quality – the designer uses reliable and proven materials for his work;
- Environmental friendliness - exclusive furnishings consist of natural materials that do not contain harmful substances;
- Style – the appearance of the products attracts attention – unusual colors and shapes, non-standard combinations are used;
- Multifunctionality - most of the products made by a furniture designer have several functions (wardrobe-bed, chair-bed);
- Increased comfort.
The only disadvantage of design work is the high price. However, this point is justified by the use of high-quality and expensive materials. This also includes manual work and the use of unique technologies and tools.

Kartell Masters
Quote chair
The Kartell Masters chair “encrypts” the silhouettes of three legendary models from famous designers of the 20th century: the Series 7 chair from Arne Jacobsen, the Tulip chair from Eero Saarinen and the Eiffel chair from Charles Eames.
The non-trivial Masters model was developed by Philippe Starck together with Eugene Quitlit, who were thus able to pay tribute to the past, intricately reflected in the present. “There is no connection between design and contemporary art. Art is absolutely self-sufficient, it is pure poetry. And the design revolves around increasing functionality and ergonomics. Design wants to be liked, art doesn’t need that ,” says Philippe Starck.
Philippe Starck always takes an ironic approach to many of his interiors and design projects, unexpectedly mixing styles.
The Kartell factory knows how to combine a high-tech approach with original design. Thanks to the founder of the factory, Italian chemical engineering specialist Giulio Castelli, plastic products came into use and continue to enjoy incredible success to this day.
Bizzotto George COD MAN
Floor lamp mannequin
The great advertiser and marketing guru David Ogilvy said: “The best ideas come in the form of jokes. So try to make your thinking less serious.” It seems that this advice was followed when they created the shocking mannequin floor lamp on a “sculptural” frame.
The design of the lamp from the Bizzotto factory expresses a metaphor of insight, and the expression “bright head” takes on a literal meaning.
