Types of egg chairs, location options, mounting methods

Location and mounting options

An egg swing will be appropriate in almost any room. As a rule, they are placed on the terrace, in children's rooms, bedroom or living room. Hanging models can be mounted in the following ways:

  1. Ceiling. This fixation option is suitable only for those rooms with very strong ceilings. Before purchasing furniture, you should make sure that the ceiling can support not only the product itself, but also the person who will sit in it. Installation is carried out using a chemical anchor.
  2. On the beam. As a rule, it is installed in private homes. Instead of a beam, you can use a branch. The main thing is that it is as strong and thick as possible, otherwise the structure may soon collapse.
  3. On a tripod. The design consists of a frame standing on the floor, on which the egg itself is suspended using a chain. These models differ from the previous ones in their mobility. If desired, they can be rearranged from one room to another or taken outside.

There are only two ways to attach floor models. The classic option is installation on a cross. This method is still popular today. The base is made of chrome-plated steel, its edges are equipped with linings that prevent slipping. In this case, rollers are not provided. The second fixation option is on a round stand. It can taper at the base of the body, and is also often made in the form of a flat disk. As a rule, the bottom is made in the same color scheme as the chair. As a result, the furniture visually looks monolithic.

A special type of chair is a rocking chair. It weighs about 25 kg and is small in size. The steel leg-base of the furniture is equipped with a swing mechanism; the product itself can be placed in any room. The egg chair can be attached not only from above, but also from below.

History of appearance

The history of such a chair began relatively recently. The first suspended model appeared in the mid-twentieth century. Initially, a hanging chair that looked like an egg was invented by Nanna Ditzel.

A little later, this idea was further refined by Ero Arnio, who came up with several modern forms. In particular, he created the “soap bubble” chair. Then the designers experimented with materials and sizes. The result was the chair that is currently in use.

By purchasing an egg chair, you will receive comfortable furniture that can immerse you in relaxation. A large number of models will allow you to choose the best option.

What problems does egg laying help with in chickens and other poultry?

A chicken egg dummy is an artificial imitation of a real bird egg, which is often used by poultry farmers to regulate the reproduction process.

In practice, it often happens that a young hen sits on eggs from the first egg laid and continues to lay eggs during the incubation process.

This inevitably leads to the fact that the first and last chicks are born several days apart. Often, larger and more lively older chickens simply trample their younger brothers.

For some brood hens, at the sight of one chick, the feeding instinct does not work properly, and she leaves the nest, leaving the offspring to fend for themselves.

Such behavioral anomalies are especially often observed in purebred chickens and other poultry. Problems with instinct arise much less often if several chicks hatch almost simultaneously - this is a strong incentive for the hen, and she begins to fully feed the offspring.

In order for the chicks to develop and hatch at the same time, proceed as follows: every day the laid egg is taken from the hen, and a dummy is placed in its place in the nest.

When 4-5 real eggs have accumulated, the “decoys” are exchanged for real bird eggs, and the bird begins to sit on them, waiting for the offspring to hatch.

False eggs are also used in case of violations of the brooding instinct, in cases of abnormal behavior of the bird. For example, when a hen does not pay attention to the nesting site equipped for her and rushes wherever she has to. In this case, the sight of the lining eggs instinctively provokes the bird to lay eggs in the nest.

Another common occurrence is chickens pecking and eating their eggs. Models also help wean hens from this bad habit. Over time, the bird realizes that it cannot crack the egg, and the problem goes away on its own.

Instructions - making a fake egg for a chicken with your own hands

You can make dummy eggs with your own hands in several ways:

1. From a real egg. To do this, small holes are made in the shell in two places, the contents are blown out of it, washed with water using a regular syringe and the void is filled with molten paraffin.

This imitation turns out to be the most realistic, and besides, the weight of the “fake” egg is practically no different from a real egg.

2. Made of plaster. Instead of paraffin, you can also use liquid alabaster (construction plaster). A hole is carefully made in the egg of such a size that the shell can be filled through it.

Gypsum is diluted with water, mixed until a creamy consistency is formed, and placed in the hole. You need to work with alabaster very quickly, because... it freezes almost instantly.

3. Carve from wood. If you have a lathe at hand (or you know a turner), you can turn an artificial egg from hardwood (birch, linden, alder, aspen).

Kinds

A hanging swing chair will diversify the interior and create a relaxation area. Furniture can be attached to the ceiling or have a support stand. The models differ from each other in many respects.

By type of fastening

A hanging chair is an ideal place for relaxation and meditation. These types are distinguished depending on the type of fastening.

Chairs with a stand that supports the main structure. Typically cocoon-shaped and made of rattan

Such furniture requires caution when operating. Sudden movements may cause the structure to tip over

A chair on a leg takes up quite a lot of space.

The type of fastening is selected depending on the conditions in which the furniture will be used. Structures that are attached to the ceiling are conventionally divided into 3 groups. The fastening can be created in several ways.

  1. Using a special anchor composition. A chemical anchor is a specialized polymer paste. It is injected into the ceiling using a construction syringe. Initially, the composition is quite soft, but after a while it hardens and is fixed. Such fasteners can withstand a load of more than 200 kg.
  2. With the help of accessories. Blocks, hooks and similar elements are used. The mounting method is similar to the previous one. A hole is made in the ceiling, which is filled with the necessary composition for attaching a hook or block. The hanging chair is attached using a bracket. If the holder additionally has springs, then the furniture swings in all directions.
  3. Using a bus or screen. This method is used in cases where it is not possible to strengthen the ceiling. A metal profile is used for installation, which helps to evenly distribute the load. The tire is stretched across the ceiling, and the mount is installed.

Experts recommend mounting the chair on a rail or ceiling slab. Stretch and suspended ceilings do not allow the installation of hanging chairs; such coverings have to be dismantled. Support rails are made of metal profiles that can be decorated. This fits perfectly into the interiors of country houses. It is also recommended to install the hanging chair away from fragile objects and equipment.

According to the presence of a frame

Modern manufacturers offer a wide variety of models of hanging chairs. All of them are divided into 2 large groups.

Frameless. Suspension ropes and durable fabrics are used for production. Such models are usually purchased for dachas and country houses. They are comfortable and tend to adapt to the shape of the body.

By shape

A wide range of different hanging chairs sometimes makes it difficult to choose. The most popular types depending on the shape are presented below.

Cocoon. The most common category. The side walls create a closed space inside. This allows you to feel detached from the outside world. Modern models of this shape have frames and reliable cables for installation.

To size

Hanging chairs can come in different shapes and purposes. This is what their size depends on. Round models usually have a diameter of 70-140 cm, the average depth reaches 45-50 cm, the maximum is about 80 cm. The average height of the chairs starts from 1 m, and the width is about 60 cm.

Hanging models on stands are more massive. The support usually has a length of about 1.5-2 meters. There are models that are designed not for one person, but for two at once. These chairs are much larger and heavier. In addition, there are deep models that allow you to completely fit inside the cocoon with legs.

Child seats are smaller in size. The diameter usually does not exceed 50 cm. Small hanging furniture can also be designed for two or even imitate a hammock.

Design options

A large assortment of egg-shaped armchairs allows you to choose an option that suits any interior style.

An open-type model with upholstery made of natural or artificial leather can fit into a strict retro style. It is better to choose a classic stand (cross). The color of the upholstery should be neutral and calm. The ideal choice would be a brown tint.

A chair of any model is suitable for a loft. In this case, both the stand and the body must be made of metal.

Modern trends allow different colors and shapes. You can choose an outdoor floor chair in a bright shade (such as yellow, blue, red and purple). You can settle on a calm, muted tone. The upholstery can be fabric or leather, it all depends on personal preference.

The closed floor chair on a monolithic stand in a two-color design looks original. The body is usually made of fiberglass in a neutral color (white, black). The internal soft filling can be contrasting (red, turquoise, orange, etc.). Of course, there are also options on sale in soothing colors.

Many people prefer to decorate apartments decorated in a modern style with acrylic hanging models. The most popular are white and black “openwork” models on rods with bright pillows. However, if you wish, you can also find a color version (for example, blue or green).

Transparent hanging products fit perfectly into the concept of minimalism. Pillows come in different colors. Most often, transparent models have the shape of a hemisphere, but ovoid models are also found.

Ecostyle will ideally complement a model made of natural rattan. This model will also fit into the Scandinavian direction. The product can be complemented by a fur cape or fabric pillow.

For lovers of outrageousness, models are offered that, in addition to the original shape, also have unusual colors. Imitation patchwork stitching, an image of the American flag, animal prints (zebra, leopard, cow) and other options simply cannot go unnoticed.

It is worth mentioning that some modern closed models are equipped with additional options. For example, it could be a hidden MP3 player. Of course, transparent chairs do not allow the installation of such systems. However, aesthetics and comfort in themselves are significant advantages of the products.

Varieties

The first hanging chair appeared in Denmark in the mid-twentieth century. This designer furniture is most often used for arranging a garden plot and less often for apartments in big cities. The unusual design combined with a variety of materials makes this piece of furniture in demand among many buyers.

A hanging chair is a comfortable seating area that is usually made from natural or man-made materials such as wicker or rattan. The product itself is either suspended from the ceiling or installed on a special stand so that you can swing in the lounger. It is also called a rocking chair or swing chair, because their main purpose is to rock a person.

Hanging chairs can be divided into wicker, fabric, hard and soft, and they differ in shape and material. These products are designed to swing in different directions. There is only one type of hanging chair that does not move diagonally or back and forth. It is attached to the floor and ceiling, and therefore can only rotate in a circle.

The frame of the product can be made of various materials. Hard ones are made of rattan, wicker, metal, acrylic or transparent plastic. And to soften the product, it is covered with a soft blanket or a synthetic padding mattress is placed inside. Sometimes the base is covered with thick fabric, and small pillows are placed on top.

The hammock chair has a soft frame, as it is made of a fabric base, which is suspended from the ceiling.

What is an egg chair and what do you eat it with?

Unusual furniture has always been interesting to buyers.

This was the case many centuries ago, when many pieces of furniture first appeared, and this is still the case now.

The reason for such interest in everything unknown, including unusual furniture, is, first of all, the desire of each person to stand out from the general number of consumers and, of course, to furnish their home differently than that of numerous friends and relatives.

Continuing the interesting topic about interesting furniture products produced today, it is impossible not to mention such a fashionable invention as the egg chair.

Let's figure out what an egg-shaped chair is and what varieties exist today.

This type of furniture, as is clear from the first mention of it, got its name because the chair has the shape of an egg, that is, a round shape.

However, many current furniture models bear this name - even those that differ significantly from each other in cost, appearance, and design itself.

So, for example, today in furniture stores you can see a floor egg chair.

Externally, it is very reminiscent of popular office chair models: the same stainless steel leg on several supports, which are equipped with rollers.

This makes the piece of furniture as mobile as possible: you can move around the room or rotate on it without leaving the chair itself.

The floor egg chair has a high rounded back, and sometimes armrests, also made in rounded shapes and lines.

The visibility of such furniture is quite wide, which allows you to comfortably watch TV or have a casual conversation with the person sitting opposite.

For these reasons, such chairs are often located in living rooms.

Egg-shaped chairs can also be used as hanging chairs. This model is in especially high demand today.

It is often purchased in order to further decorate a child’s or teenager’s room, although adult models are also quite in demand.

Hanging egg chairs, in turn, are divided into models that are suspended from the ceiling and products equipped with a stable floor bracket.

Using a special strong fastening, the chain is suspended from the ceiling, and the chair itself is fixed to it.

This option is suitable for those who do not want to clutter the room with additional structures and are not “afraid” of holes in the ceiling of the room.

In a spacious room you can place a hanging egg chair, which is located on a bracket. It is installed behind the chair.

Moving into a high arc, the bracket holds the chair itself and eliminates the possibility of strong swinging. It is worth noting that the first option is used more often than the second, based on safety standards.

If you are interested in the story about unusual furniture (egg chairs), then we invite you to take a closer look at the offers from our rich catalogue.

Materials

The price, convenience and durability of the product depend on this parameter. The most durable of them are on a metal frame. Frameless chairs are less wear-resistant. Let's take a closer look at the materials used to make cocoon chairs.

Metal

For the production of such models, steel and aluminum are usually used. The wire is coated with paint that does not wear off or wash off.

Rattan

This is a type of tropical vine that is characterized by its smoothness. It has been used for furniture production for a long time; this material is not afraid of moisture and is resistant to wear. To produce cocoon chairs on an industrial scale, manufacturers began to use an artificial analogue of vines.

Vine

Like willow twigs, vine has become an economical option for eco-furniture. The durable, breathable material is inferior to its counterpart, rattan. It is not so smooth and soft, so pillows must be placed in such models.

Plastic and acrylic

Solid chairs that look like eggs are made from such materials. Furniture made of plastic and acrylic, as well as plexiglass, successfully complements interiors in modern styles of minimalism, hi-tech and pop art.

Slats made from this natural material can hold their curved shape well.

Nylon or cotton cord

Pliable fibers take the shape of the body of the person sitting, which gives special comfort. The strength of models made from cord is lower than that of others, and they also have to be washed periodically.

Textile

A wide variety of colors allows you to make bright, unusual cocoon chairs. For such furniture, tarpaulin, raincoat, denim and other fabrics are used.

Knitting

The most original pieces that bring warmth and comfort to the room. There are many knitting patterns, and the range of threads is truly huge.

Macrame

Macrame products combine beauty, simplicity and durability. They are often used as outdoor versions of cocoon chairs.

Types of Egg Chair models

Hanging

Now there are quite a few varieties of such furniture. If you want an original solution that will attract a lot of attention, it makes sense to choose a hanging chair. Often this is a wicker chair or made in the form of a drop.

To choose the right egg chair of this type, it makes sense to look at the suspension. The following types are found.

  • Ceiling. Here you need to make sure that the ceiling can definitely withstand such a load. To do this, be sure to obtain an architectural opinion. Next, choose a location and drill holes for fasteners. If there is a cavity in the selected location, it must be filled with sealant. We install the fasteners and fix them with cement-containing filler. The chair is suspended after the solution has completely hardened.
  • Beam. Fastening occurs by throwing a chain or rope over the beam. Additionally, the housing is fixed to the floor or wall. This solution is suitable for private houses.
  • Tripod. The frame of the chair is suspended from a special stand, which is placed on the base in the form of a ring. The suspension is made in the form of a hook, loop and chain. Some models use a dense spring instead of a chain. This solution combines a rocking chair and a swing.

When choosing a chair with a ceiling mount, it makes sense to carefully choose the placement location, since it will not be possible to quickly move the furniture if necessary.

Floor-standing

There are also floor-mounted options. When choosing a floor chair, you need to look at the base. Let's see what the reasons are.

  • Cross. If we consider the most classic option - a four-pointed cross. This tradition has survived to this day. Made from chrome steel, or from its carbon types. This support does not have wheels, and is also complemented by a special lining with anti-slip properties. A small leg must be made between the frame and the cross.
  • Stand. This is a wide round base, additionally equipped with a small height leg. Often found on modern models that completely replicate the appearance of the egg. A seat is placed inside the hollow egg. Thanks to this shape, an adult can fit inside by simply bending his legs. It has a high level of comfort; it is almost impossible to tip over this chair. They look good if your interior is in a modern style.

Product Features

The egg-shaped hanging chair was invented by Nanna Ditzel back in 1957. Literally a year after this, Danish designer Arne Jacobsen received a large order to develop an original model for a famous hotel, who modeled a modern version of the famous furniture. Immediately after its first appearance, the model received its original name – Egg Chair.

The egg shape, which is repeated by the seat and back of the product, makes the design stand out from the usual design of modern furniture. The Egg chair does not have the usual 4 legs; its body is mounted on a mobile support or suspended - thanks to this solution, the model rotates 360°.

The base is a monolithic body. The classic version is egg-shaped with an open top. Modern designers complement the basic model by creating chairs in the form of a ball and hemisphere. These are cozy designs with a cut off side part. The popularity of the chairs is explained by their non-standard appearance and the comfort provided by the shape of the seat and backrest.

The color scheme is varied and depends on the imagination of the designers. Natural tones of source materials are popular - wicker, rattan, leather. In designs made from synthetic fibers, there is a greater choice of colors. Classic options - black and white - are used separately or in combination. A popular print that imitates the color of a zebra. Multi-colored pillows made in a contrasting tone organically complement the design of the product.

How the Egg Chair was created

Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen spent a long time searching for the shape of the future egg chair. He dreamed of creating something new and revolutionary, but at the same time stylish and comfortable. According to one version, the source of inspiration for the search for the form was the famous “Womb Chair” by Eero Saarinen. The hugging frame of the egg chair has something in common with this model.

But Jacobsen wanted to make a splash and at the same time feared accusations of plagiarism, so he continued his experiments.
