Changing your posture during the workday is good for your health
The ability to work while standing is a standard workplace requirement in America and Europe. This is how designers, programmers, managers and others work, those who spend a lot of time at their desks.
Tables with lifting mechanism
They are considered an innovative solution, since changing the position of the tabletop helps to place a piece of furniture anywhere and use it for a variety of purposes. For example, standard office or kitchen furniture can easily become a coffee table next to a sofa or a standing desk in an office.
There are 2 main types of such tables on sale:
- Mechanical - the lifting mechanism is driven by the force of the user’s hands. They can be made in the form of a standard perforated rod with bayonet locks, with a folding system operating on the principle of scissors, as well as with complex piston lifting mechanisms and hinged coupling of individual elements. They are divided by load capacity, type of mechanism, and materials of manufacture.
- Electric – the “up” or “down” mechanism is driven by an electric motor. They can be powered by a rechargeable battery, but the vast majority of these models are supplied with a power cable. They are divided by motor power, number of drives, the presence of a remote control function, and memory of specified user settings.
Below are the most popular models of lifting tables that can be purchased through online stores throughout the country.

Features and details
Scroll below to find out more about our table.
The table movement mechanism consists of two synchronous electric drives in the table legs. The tabletop lifting speed reaches 3.8 cm/sec.
Each table leg has three telescopic sections, which allows for a wide range of working heights from 64 to 129 cm. Read more about the characteristics here.
Table load capacity: 120 kg. When driving, you can hardly hear the noise of the engines.
The total weight of the table frame is about 32 kg, it is difficult to accidentally move it. The thickness of the table legs is 75×75 mm, the table is stable in all directions. When working at a table, it is safe to lean over or press on the edges of the tabletop.
The control panel attaches to the tabletop in a convenient location and includes four additional keys for remembering positions.
Use the up and down keys until you reach a comfortable height, and monitor the numerical value using the built-in display. Once a comfortable height is reached, write the value into memory.
The electric drives in the table legs are synchronized and prevent the table from swaying or sudden movements when moving.
If, however, desynchronization occurs, the table provides a reset procedure that again synchronizes the table legs.
A hardwood countertop is the best, time-tested solution for everyday work. We value and love wood, so we do not hide its structure under layers of varnish or paint. Instead, we coat each countertop twice with high-grade OSMO oil. It is absorbed into the wood without clogging its pores. At the same time, tactile characteristics are completely preserved - the fibers can be traced by touch.
An option for a table top made of laminated chipboard is a practical and budget option for table design. We also know how to make them. The palette of shades for such countertops is richer, production time is usually 2-3 days.
The table frame allows you to install tabletops with a length of 105-190 cm and a width of 60 cm. That is why we cannot prepare all table geometry options for our clients. But this is not a problem at all, because we are ready to quickly prepare a table according to your dimensions. For oak countertops, the production time is up to 10 days, for laminated chipboard - 5-7 days.
Varieties
Any adjustable desk consists of two legs with guides, a traverse, and a table top. Modern models are equipped with a power supply and a built-in settings system with indicators. Special products are equipped with mounts for the system unit. Conventionally, tables can be divided into several categories:
Types of folding tables with wall mounting, installation algorithm
Criterion | Kinds |
Functional | simple option without additional functions; model with built-in sockets, remote control, fasteners |
Material of manufacture | wood, metal, plastic, combined raw materials |
Form | round, corner, rectangular |
Age category | children, teenagers, adults |
Adjustment | mechanical, electric lifting |
Manufacturers are improving models. They differ not only in the criteria described above, but also in cost. The more functional the product, the higher it is. When selecting, special attention is paid to the minimum, maximum dimensions and dimensions of the tabletop.
The more reliable the mechanism, the more durable the piece of furniture will be.
A correctly selected model should provide comfortable work in sitting and standing positions. Modern furniture will easily fit into an interior designed in the style of cubism, minimalism, techno, and hi-tech. Tables with extra-long gas lift deserve special attention. The cost of the version with the mechanism is significantly higher than the usual one. Due to frequent use of the device, the service life of a mobile product is lower compared to a stationary one.
Adult models
Adult models are equipped with additional functions. An adjustable table may differ in type of drive, material of manufacture, and purpose. Automation of settings also affects the cost. A piece of furniture can be electrically lifting or mechanical. The latter is conventionally divided into two types:
- screw - the distance from the floor to the tabletop is adjusted by twisting the legs;
- stepped - changing parameters by installing plugs in the holes of the supports.
Any table can be equipped with mounts for electronics, a control panel for remote control, sockets, and extension cords. The mobile product can be used as an office, home workplace, or bedside table (narrow models with a minimum height in the lower position).
You can make furniture with mechanical adjustment yourself. This option will cost much less than the factory one.

Screw
Stepped
Adult interior items differ in size and the ability to adapt the workspace individually. The functionality depends on the type of product:
- Writing. The model allows you to adjust the height and tilt of the tabletop. Convenient for working with papers.
- Computer. Folding or stationary work surface. Equipped with sockets and mounts for the system unit. Wheels and side supports are often present.
- Office. A functional product with sockets, footrests, and additional shelves.
Expensive computer models are equipped with a built-in cooling system. The function is especially relevant for those who use a laptop rather than a desktop computer. This will prevent the device from overheating.

Children's products
Children's furniture can be changed in height depending on the child's height. The mechanism is also divided into two types:
- Mechanical. Economy option, regulation by screw, step mechanism. Can be set up by an adult.
- Electric. Expensive models with remote adjustment. The child can choose the height independently.
Performance characteristics of sawing tables, nuances of choice
Children's furniture is designed for long comfortable spending time at the table. Therefore, it is important to choose the right piece of furniture. The tabletop, overall dimensions, material of manufacture, and method of changing the height are important. The model must have a tabletop tilt function to ensure correct body position and head tilt angle. Such products are additionally equipped with:
- shelves;
- boxes;
- stands for books, electronics;
- compartments for storing writing instruments;
- footrests.
The multifunctional desk will “grow” with the child. The setting can be either general or combined. In the latter case, only half or a third of the tabletop can be tilted. Since the adjustment will be carried out repeatedly, it is recommended to select a high-quality mechanism.

We love and know how to work with wood
The countertops we make from oak or ash have a rich pattern that makes it a pleasure to work on every day.
To ensure that the surface always remains slightly rough and durable, we do not skimp on the means of processing it. The tabletop in this photo is coated with OSMO Protective Oil in Rosewood 727. OSMO is a recognized leader in the field of professional wood coatings.
No varnish, paint or putty.
Why do you need a table with height adjustment?
It has been proven that constant sitting leads to blood stagnation and the formation of many diseases. Academician Nikolai Amosov also spoke about the importance of standing work. He argued that our brain functions more productively if a person does writing while standing.
You can work standing at the computer using a special table
But previously, all tables in schools, universities and offices were low. Now engineers have solved this problem by inventing a table that can be easily adjusted in height.
Mobile standing desk
In order for the body to be in a comfortable position while working, the furniture must correspond to the geometry of our body
Feedback about use
Users who have already acquired adjustment tables willingly share reviews with newcomers on popular forums:
Ivan, 28 years old
I purchased a lifting table with two steel legs and an electric drive. I made an order via the Internet, choosing the product I liked from the catalog, following the descriptions and photos. The solution is very interesting. Raises using the remote control and can be fixed in any convenient position. There were no complaints during 3 months of operation. I paid 48,000 rubles, as well as 3,000 rubles for professional assembly. There was a small problem with the wires, but I solved it quickly - I put the cable in a sleeve and inserted the plug into the computer socket on the wall. It is comfortable to sit and stand at the table.
Irina, 36 years old
I decided to get rid of the old table that had been in the room since my student days. I spent a long time looking for a suitable product in the IKEA store, but could not find anything. The choice fell on an ergonomic high computer desk with a pneumatic drive. After 6 months of use, the mechanism began to make strange sounds, the paint on the legs peeled off. I had to contact a specialist and carry out restoration work. There are no other comments yet. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. High-quality countertop made of laminated chipboard, repeating the texture of oak. The product cost me 26,000 rubles.

How it works
Table for standing and sitting work with electric lift ergostol in working position
The main essence of this invention is clear from the name. The highlight is that the table can change and fix the height at any level due to its design. So, it consists of:
- two composite legs with guides;
Set of desk supports for standing and sitting work
Assembled supports with table frame
Changing the height of the tabletop
Adjustable table control system
Electric drive for lifting table supports for standing and sitting work
How to route cables
Elevated standing desks powered by power are connected via cables that need to be hidden from prying eyes and also prevent the risk of damage or injury from tripping.
This procedure can be performed in several ways:
- Install the desk in close proximity to a wall outlet. Office premises are often equipped with sockets at the tabletop level in plastic boxes.
- Provide a hidden outlet in the floor, directly under the support.
- Ensure the installation of an electrical column with a group of sockets. The solution is relevant when blocking several tables in a large office.
- Lay the cable in the floor under the steel decorative layout with cable ducts.
- Organize a niche or add-on with cable management.
- To disguise a suspended cable, you should use a decorative sleeve, in which you can also hide all other wires from your computer and office equipment. Many similar pieces of furniture are equipped with such sleeves in the basic version, for example, the Ikea table, which is raised using a handle.
Important! The best solution for masking cables would be to plan the electrical wiring for placing a table of this category at the stage of finishing work.

Advantages and disadvantages
Standing corner desk with electrical height adjustment
New products are always hotly discussed. The present invention did not avoid this action either. Judging by reviews and personal experience of use, we have identified the positive and negative aspects of a table with a lifting mechanism.
Height-adjustable desks in office interiors
- Possibility of adjusting the height to suit your own height. This is convenient if you have to change the work position, if the table is used by several people, or in children's tables.
Ideal desk for computer work
Standing desk with computer and documents

Table model with height adjustment mechanism - extra-long gas lift
If the table height is adjusted correctly, the angle at the elbow joint will be 90 degrees or slightly more
The most significant advantage that attracts modern business people is the ability to work in standing and sitting positions. But despite all the advantages, opponents also found some disadvantages of the design.
- High price.
- It becomes unusable faster than a regular table, due to the fact that the mechanism is often used.
You can place a special adjustable Ergosmart console on the table and work while standing or sitting
Whether to purchase a table with these characteristics or not is up to you. However, judging by the large number of positive reviews, it is a useful invention. Don’t forget about proper care of the mechanism, and your table will last a long time, bringing only benefits and positive emotions.
Desk with adjustable top height from Ikea
“Supervisors” installed on a regular table
Many office workers who lead a sedentary lifestyle every day are satisfied with their desks. However, when working at a computer, you often have to lower your head, which leads to pain in the cervical spine. In addition, during such work, redness in the eyes and severe headaches are observed.
To avoid such problems, furniture manufacturers offer special add-ons installed directly on the surface of the countertop. These elements are divided into the following types:
- Standard single-section stands are made 10–20 cm in height and are designed to accommodate a monitor or laptop. This piece of furniture allows an office worker to place the screen at eye level without the need to tilt their head, which eliminates the risk of developing the problems listed above.
- Multi-sectional add-ons - in addition to space for placing a monitor, are equipped with shelves, desks and drawers designed for office papers, stationery and other important things.
Important! “Supers” significantly increase human comfort, but do not solve the problem of comfort when landing, since the main surface always remains at the same level.

IKEA BEKANT – transformable table with electrically adjustable height
Share on social networks:
Any of those who have to engage in so-called “sedentary work” will confirm to you that even the most ergonomic office chair and desk are not a panacea for lower back pain and other manifestations of discomfort. Not everyone can afford to stretch their legs with a short walk every half hour, and there are even fewer happy owners of transformable tables that can raise the tabletop to a “standing” position. Now that such a table has been released by IKEA, one of the leaders in the mass furniture market, the situation may change noticeably.
To understand exactly how the IKEA BEKANT table works, just watch the demo video. The good news is that within the adjustment range you can choose any intermediate position.
The IKEA BEKANT table operates from a regular household network; the tabletop moves up and down by pressing two corresponding keys, which start the electric motors. The minimum height of the tabletop is 64 cm, the maximum is 125 cm. The maximum load on the table is 70 kg, it is better not to force the motors to run for more than one minute at a time, after which they should not be used for at least 9 minutes. A removable safety key is provided for child protection.
And most importantly, IKEA BEKANT is not just another concept, but a real product that can be purchased right now in a variety of colors and countertop configurations for prices ranging from $469 and up.
Constant sitting is as harmful as smoking
Modern people spend on average more than 14 hours a day sitting. And although not all countries have calculated this indicator accurately, British scientists have tracked that a typical resident of Foggy Albion sits for 14 hours and 39 minutes a day. In the USA, it was estimated that the average worker spends about 10 hours a day in the office + 2.5 hours added by sitting at home in front of the TV. In any case, I suspect that these figures are also very close to you and me.
Obviously, thousands of years of evolution have not configured our body for such a regime. And it is logical that you have to pay for this with your health.
In general, Dr. James Levine compared sitting to smoking in the book “Get Up!: Why Your Chair is Killing You and What You Can Do About It.” He concluded that that sitting for long periods of time is even more dangerous than smoking and kills more people than HIV. “We are waiting until we die,” he scares readers with conclusions based on scientific facts.
An interesting study was conducted back in the 1950s in Britain. Then they compared data on heart disease among bus drivers (they sit all the time) and conductors (they are constantly on their feet). Both professions in Britain attracted people of similar age and physical condition (and the data were adjusted for gender and age). Conclusion: The incidence of heart disease was noticeably lower among conductors than among drivers.
Here is some more data about the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle we found in various studies:
- People who lead a sedentary lifestyle are 54% more likely to die from a heart attack.
- Men who spent more than 4 hours a day in a sitting position were significantly more likely to suffer from chronic diseases: in particular, heart disease and diabetes .
- People who sit in front of TV for 6 or more hours a day live on average 4.8 years less than those who do not watch TV at all .
- People who spend a lot of time sitting increase their risk of certain types of cancer by up to 66% compared to those who do not sit excessively .
- A sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of endometrial cancer by 32%, the risk of colorectal cancer by 24%, and lung cancer by 21% .
- Every extra 2 hours of sitting a day adds 8% to your risk of colorectal cancer .
- Among women who spend less than 3 hours a day sitting, the risk of chronic kidney disease is as much as 30% lower.
By the way, going to the gym does not save you from the harm of sitting for a long time. One does not help the other much in this case - several experts said in our review about the dangers of sitting.
But does this mean that you have to stand all the time? We suspect that workers in “standing” professions also have their own professional “sores” associated with a constant standing position.
If the essence of a healthy lifestyle is expressed in two words, then these will be the words “Variety and moderation” - the opinion of the editors of Zozhnik.
In general, any extremes are almost always not friendly to health, and vice versa, almost everywhere we find evidence of the universal principle of a healthy lifestyle - “diversity and moderation”.
It became obvious to me that alternating sedentary, standing (and perhaps also lying) work is the best way to improve the situation, reduce the risk of a bunch of diseases and prolong your life. And I started looking for a solution for myself.
What I did
Taking breaks from sedentary work and doing Tai Chi training? (By the way, here is a selection of scientific data on the benefits of tai chi). Yes, I can, and sometimes I do, but I often get carried away at work and noticed that I still spend a lot of time in a sitting position - I forget...
However, it has become important to reduce the amount of sitting in your life. On the other hand, there are many other important things in life, competition for time and attention is obvious and it was clearly necessary to make it easier and clear the path to a more standing lifestyle. That is, come up with the simplest possible way to work while standing or sitting without any obstacles.
Now there are many offers on the market for standing work, related to another mini-table that needs to be placed on top of a regular table. Usually it can be adjusted, and the cost of such a solution starts from $20 for a mini-table from Aliexpress to a sophisticated mini-table for almost 20 thousand rubles. from a domestic startup.
Most proposals for sit-stand work involve an existing desk, on which it is proposed to place another one on top.
But I didn’t want to build such a structure for aesthetic reasons, and I had doubts that it would be convenient to place my elbows on such a mini-tabletop. It all felt flimsy, temporary, and generally reminiscent of the off-putting (to me) aesthetic of Terry Gilliam's films.
And there is always a risk that the table will slide off the table below, that it can be pushed and the entire structure will collapse. In general, this design seems to hint that working while standing is something abnormal.
Why do you need a rising table?
The rising desk is a versatile piece of furniture that can be freely used both at home and in the office in the following situations:
- If a person wishes, change his position from sitting to standing to prevent serious consequences.
- If it is necessary to use this piece of furniture for people with non-standard physical characteristics (height from 200 cm, as well as obese people).
- When used by wheelchair users.
- If there is a non-standard seat (easy chair with armrests, sofa, sofa).
In addition, the table, which rises relative to the floor surface, allows you to set individual parameters for work, relaxation or eating.

I have an idea
Needless to say, I’m a fan of IKEA: aesthetic Scandinavian design with a smile and delivery to the city at an adequate price – how can you not love them.
I remember there was such a case: once a defect was discovered on a cast-iron roasting pan from IKEA - due to the temperature, a small chip of the internal non-stick layer occurred and I wanted to change this duckling pan. Six months after purchase, without a receipt. And I was surprised that everything was done without any questions. Then I asked them myself, “So you will change it for me without a check?” “Well, yes, we can see it like that - this is our duckling.” In general, a human approach.
The SKARSTA table has a manual drive for lifting, it definitely won’t break, and this table is cheaper - 17,999 rubles.
Once I saw at IKEA a table for standing-sitting work SKARSTA - with a twist handle that changes the height of the tabletop from the standard 70 cm to 120 cm (I suspect that a 2-meter person can work standing). Laconic, hand-pulled, elegant and simple, and even an additional micro-load on torsion of the handle.
And I would not have left without this table from IKEA if I had not seen another beauty - BEKANT with electric drives in massive “legs”:
Photo of the BEKANT table from the IKEA website. The photo, by the way, does not convey well, but BEKANT is large (tabletop width is 80 cm), massive (a little more than 40 kg). It costs now: 31,999 rubles.
Otherwise, the design is extremely laconic, no extra crossbars, a piece of iron to strengthen the frame and everything else: minimalism and solidity. And since we are talking about my health and my work tool, I immediately rejected compromises and realized that I didn’t need anything better than this table.
The photo doesn't convey it, but the table is really large and massive. As I read later, it itself weighs a little more than 40 kg, which is quite important for a desktop. A heavy table somehow gives off a stronger sense of reliability. And it is also impossible to accidentally move it, push it and spill something on the keyboard or drop anything from it. And it also comes with a full 10-year warranty! (I’m sure that if I lose the check, they will still help me).
In general, any other table - cheaper and simpler - would have evoked in me the subconscious feeling “but I saved money.” If you approach the uncompromising desk, then this feeling changes to “I’m working at the best desk I ever wanted” and as if even the work itself improves. And alternating standing/sitting is much more pleasant.
