Existing bunk beds with wardrobe and their characteristic features

Existing options

Modern furniture models for children's rooms have bright colors and interesting shapes. When choosing a bed, you need to focus on the size of the room, the need for places to store clothes and toys, as well as the wishes and preferences of the children. The range of combined beds is very diverse. Based on the requirements for compactness and convenience, furniture manufacturers offer several types of beds with a wardrobe, which differ in the design of the facade and the principle of execution.

Bed wall

The most popular model is the one that connects the beds and the closet located along the wall of the room. The beds can be placed on top of each other or the upper bed will be on the side. This option is recommended for children who feel fear and discomfort when a shelf hangs over them. The cabinet can be of any size, have additional drawers, shelves, and the necessary compartments for bulky items and small items.

This model is popular due to its ease of use and compactness. The product takes up little space in the room due to the localization of structural elements against the wall, freeing up the playing area as much as possible. Such furniture is complemented by a desk or computer desk, which connects areas for relaxation and learning. Types of products where the upper bed is located above the cabinet can be equipped with additional shelves and racks.

Bed and two wardrobes

This type of children's furniture can have several options:

  • bunk bed with a wardrobe located on the side;
  • model, with several closets on opposite sides of the beds.

In this case, the beds are placed parallel to each other. This arrangement of cabinets requires more space, but makes it possible to place clothes as conveniently as possible. Cabinets can be large or small, narrow or wide. They often purchase models where, on the one hand, there is a full-fledged wardrobe for clothes, and on the other, a rack for writing instruments, shelves for books, a chest of drawers, and drawers in 2 rows. A modification of such a product can be considered a bed with a sofa. The sofa can be pulled apart at night to create a full bed. Here the storage space will be not only a closet, but also large sofa drawers.

The designers offer an interesting solution to parents who do not want to place one of their children’s sleeping place at a height - a pull-out lower bed. This design requires additional floor space, but is safer for small children. It can be used as guest furniture.

With corner cabinet

When the size or shape of the nursery does not allow you to install standard furniture and it is impossible to fit everything near the wall, you can purchase a set with a corner cabinet. In this case, the location of one bed will be standard, it is attached to the cabinet body, and the other can be placed on top. The staircase is supported by bedside tables. The corner structure saves more space in the room, while the shelves inside the cabinet can be made of different types. Corner furniture creates the illusion of compactness, but at the same time is very spacious.

Corner berth

This model is a good option for a small nursery. Design feature: one bed is located perpendicular to the other. Sleeping places are placed against the walls of the room, forming a corner. Under the upper tier there is a cabinet, table, and chest of drawers. Also, both beds can be placed at the top, and a spacious wardrobe, chest of drawers and a ladder with niches can fit in the lower part.

A two-story bed with a table requires good lighting in the work area, so it is advisable to install a lamp on the tabletop or attach a lamp.

Transformable beds

The transformable bed has become the most popular model today. To prevent the bed from taking up extra space, it is hidden during the day using a special mechanism, which is controlled by remote control or manually. The comfort of this design is that the fasteners hold not only the bed frame, but also the mattress and bed linen. There is no need to assemble everything separately, and to disassemble it, you only need to apply a minimum of effort.

There are several options for transformable furniture:

  • the lower place is transformed into a desk, chest of drawers, shelf;
  • both beds can be folded into a wall or a niche.

When purchasing such furniture, you need to take into account the large weight of the product, which means it can only be mounted on a solid wall. It would be useful to study the strength of the fastening element.

Loft bed

Not all sets are designed for two children. A loft bed has only one seat, which is placed at the top and provides additional space for other items. A two-level bed with a work area and a wardrobe can be an excellent solution in a small room.

Cabinet types

Bunk beds can be combined with different types of wardrobes. They are in form:

  • straight;
  • semicircular (radius);
  • corner.

Furniture doors can swing open or move left and right. The sliding system is more preferable, it saves space when opening. The dimensions of the furniture also vary. Thus, the height of a floor cabinet is 1.3–1.5 m; when placed at the head of the bed, this parameter can reach 2 m. For hanging cabinets, the height is in the range of 60–90 cm. The minimum furniture depth is 45 cm, the maximum is 60– 65 cm. Width varies from 0.4 m (pencil case) to 1.8 m (three-leaf cabinet).

Types of bunk beds with wardrobe, design options

When installing a bed with a wardrobe for storing things, you need to take into account the contents of the latter. These can be hangers in the form of rods with hangers, shelves, roll-out boxes, baskets, holders, shoe racks, hooks. From the possible options, it is worth choosing what the inhabitants of the room need most.

Possible shapes and dimensions

Bunk furniture with a wardrobe connects three or more pieces of furniture, which is convenient, economical, and stylish. A bedroom set can have not only a closet, additional storage space, but also other items. Sets that are equipped with a chest of drawers, a desk, and a cabinet are also in demand among the population. In this case, the size of the sleeping place is selected according to the age of the child.

Typically, the following standard dimensions are used depending on height:

  • for a preschooler: 1600×800 mm;
  • for a teenager: 1900×900 mm;
  • adult: 2000×1000 mm.

In a bunk bed, the distance between floors must be maintained, which, according to GOST, is 850 mm in height. Each sleeping place must support a weight of 110 kg, taking into account the child’s activity. For a small child, it is better to choose a low bed, but it should not be too small for an older child.

As for cabinets, they can be of different shapes:

  • straight;
  • corner;
  • radius.

Cabinets can also differ in door design and are:

  • swing;
  • coupe.

As for the size of the cabinet, it can also differ and directly depends on the location of the structure:

  • if the closet is located under the bed, then most often its height reaches 1300-1500 mm;
  • wardrobes located on the sides of the beds can reach a height of up to 2 meters.

If the set will stand for several years, it is better to immediately buy larger beds, taking into account the further growth of the children. Beds can be of different sizes when children of different ages live in the room. In this case, it is recommended to purchase a sofa bed set. It is often used in a one-room apartment so that the child and parents have their own sleeping place.

The furniture design is made in the same color scheme and maintains the overall style, which creates a special atmosphere in the room, helping to delimit the zone and distinguish the interior favorably. A children's room involves the use of fantasy shapes, bright colors, and interesting combinations of textures. At the same time, it is better to take cabinet furniture in a neutral tone, diluting it with bright accessories for a more colorful facade. Along with laconic and simple products, there is furniture in a fairytale style. If you additionally play with the form, the furniture will not only be functional, but will become an entertaining attribute for games.

Boys will enjoy falling asleep in a boat, car, train, playing in a tower, on a mountain slope. For girls, you can find designs in the shape of a castle, a dollhouse, or a car. A sports facility with a slide, ropes, and rings will be interesting to everyone.

Ladder

Modern bunk beds can be complemented by different types of stairs. The three most common options:

  1. Vertical. Consists of two parallel posts (string). There are crossbars for the legs embedded in them. The structure can be built-in (sloping or strictly perpendicular to the sleeping places) or attached. Sometimes equipped with handrails. This model takes up a minimum of free space, but it is not very convenient and is not safe for small children.
  2. Marching. This staircase has full steps, so the model is more convenient than its vertical counterpart. At the same time, it takes up at least 0.5 m² of space near the bed. In addition, the structure is tilted too steeply - 70 degrees, although the most convenient parameter is 32-35°.
  3. Ladder-wardrobe. A variation of the previous model. The useful area is not lost with this design: the vertical surface of the steps masks the roll-out drawers of the storage system. The optimal angle of inclination here is 35 degrees; often the stairs are supplemented with handrails. This model is extremely easy to use.

Sometimes a flight of stairs is equipped with shelving steps, inside of which there are open shelves. They are located on the side of the bed, and not on the front, as is the case with a staircase-wardrobe.

Filling the storage system

When selecting a bedroom set that comes with a wardrobe, you need to take into account the internal contents of the latter. For a storage system in this design, you can use rods, shelves, drawers, and mesh. The internal content depends on the preferences of the owner. In addition, you can place additional devices that will help keep the room tidy and clean.

In a deep closet, the rod is located horizontally, which makes it easy to find the clothes you need. If the cabinets are shallow and low, you can screw such a mechanism in another way - a retractable part with fastening to the shelf. Narrow cabinets should have shelves that are located at short distances. This will help organize your wardrobe according to its purpose. Bottom drawers and mezzanines are suitable for storing large items, bedding, and rarely used items.

If the room is of a modest size, where the closet occupies most of the space, a bunk bed with drawers that can be easily pulled out and have compartments for toys, small items, and linen will look better. The corner cabinet is the most spacious. Large compartments provide space for outer wardrobes and clothes, and many shelves and drawers are designed to accommodate small items. If the bedroom set has two closets, each of them serves as a place to store one child’s clothes. It is better to put special latches on the cabinet doors, which will help leave them in the desired position, eliminating injuries. Books, writing instruments, photographs, and souvenirs are placed on the side shelves, glass shelves and niches.

How to choose a suitable bunk wardrobe bed

The availability of a variety of models for sale, the ability to order a bed version according to your own dimensions and in the required configuration allows you to place multifunctional furniture in a nursery of any size, even if there is other necessary furniture there. Let's consider the most successful modifications of two-tier children's furniture.

Modification "bed-table" for one child

Both schoolchildren and preschoolers need a table. You can place the table on the lower tier of the bed or choose a transformable modification in which, when unfolded, the bed takes the place of a desk and vice versa. In all models, you can leave a computer monitor and writing utensils on the tabletop when folded, which significantly saves time. The cabinet in such models is located on the side of the table-bed and can have a different number of compartments and shelves.

Above the first berth in such models, the second is located on top and a mezzanine for storing bedding is usually placed above it. The second child will be comfortable at the top in any position, and an extension ladder helps to climb there. If customers need a spacious cabinet, then it is placed on the side of the furniture.

Modification "bed-sofa"

transformable bunk bed with sofa

The older children become, the less important the height of the sides of the bed in the second tier begins to play. And the style of decorating a children's room is becoming increasingly important. For schoolchildren, you can choose a sofa bed, which can be either two-tiered or transformable.

Transformers when folded look like a classic sofa. And when unfolded, they are equipped with a steel staircase to the second “floor” and reliable fastenings.

Pull-out beds or bunk beds

It's no secret that some children are afraid to sleep on the second tier of bed. And this fear may not only not go away over time, but, on the contrary, grow. If the family does not have the opportunity to place beds on one level, you can purchase safe multi-level models, which are even approved for use in preschool institutions.

In safe multi-level beds, the sleeping places, when folded, are located one under the other, and when unfolded, they roll out and are arranged in a “ladder”. Their only drawback is their rather fragile mechanism, which does not always withstand jumping and active games on the mattress.

Interior location

Children who live in the same room often make noise and quarrel. To minimize disagreements between them, parents should think carefully about the arrangement of the room. A bed with two tiers will help solve the problem of holiday accommodation and divide the room.

A bunk bed takes up a lot of space, so it is usually placed along one of the walls of the room. If the room is non-standard, you can place the structure in a niche or between the walls. In such rooms, the sleeping area turns out to be multifunctional, helps save space, and combines several pieces of furniture in one.

When the product is used in a spacious nursery, the high structure will help to delimit the territory into separate segments, separating the recreation area from the play and educational area. In addition, such sleeping places successfully replace separate rooms where the child can have personal space. Privacy for each child is achieved with the help of curtains, walls, and partitions. If children of different sexes live in the room, you should arrange a separate corner for both, drawing a boundary using color, accessories, and decor.

A combined bed for children with storage compartments is considered the most profitable and practical solution in apartments with one children's room. At the same time, the dimensions of the structure do not always correspond to the size of the room.

You need to understand that most of the models on the market can only be placed in a room with high ceilings. When purchasing a two-level bed with a wardrobe, you must carefully inspect the product, determine the strength and reliability of fastening, the safety of the materials used, the need for additional devices and household items.
