Fishing requires quite a lot of time and patience from the fisherman. The feeder method is considered especially long, sometimes it takes several hours of waiting before the first bite. Fans of this method stock up on various devices that make the process more comfortable. So, one of the main additional accessories for feeder fishing, in addition to a special feeder, can be called a special chair. The stores are filled with various models, which makes it possible to choose the one that suits any requirements.

Feeder fishing

The feeder method is fishing with bottom tackle; the essence is that the feeder is thrown several times to the same place. The tackle was invented around the 50s in England, by fishermen living on the banks of the Severn River. The first models of feeder gear were made of bamboo; gradually they began to be made of lighter materials with the addition of various elements.

Tackle for feeder fishing consists of the following elements:

  • Coil;
  • leashes with hooks;
  • fishing line;
  • and the rod itself.

In addition to everything, they use a bite alarm, as well as a stand.

Feeder tackle

So, looking in more detail at what the feeder tackle looks like, we can highlight:

  • the presence of small passage rings on low holders;
  • interchangeable tips of different weights that transmit a bite signal.

Feeders are also divided into classes:

  • easy;
  • very light;
  • moderate severity;
  • heavy;
  • very heavy.

Medium-weight devices are considered the most common because they are versatile and can be adjusted to any conditions.

Where and how to fish on a feeder

When choosing a place to fish in this way, you should consider some points:

  • absence of a large number of snags at the bottom;
  • the strength of the current, it should be small;
  • professionals recommend choosing a bottom that has small holes and tubercles, since it is in such places that fish like to accumulate.

After the location has been chosen, they begin to mix the bait; as a rule, the mixture is purchased in advance, and then simply diluted with water. Mixing occurs by adding water in small portions. Next, weights are attached to the tackle, and it is thrown into the water. During the pulling process, the bottom topography and the presence of various obstacles along the way are determined.

You should know that during fishing you need to periodically adjust the length of the leash and the weight of the feeder.

Additional accessories

The simplest model of fishing chair is a stool. Some fishermen consider armrests unnecessary, as they can restrict movement. Store-bought products often have body kits - additional devices that make fishing easier. It’s convenient when everything you need is at hand and you don’t have to bend down to the ground to get bait or tackle. You can also build such devices with your own hands, adding them to a fishing chair.

Materials required to make the body kit:

  • aluminum pipe with a diameter of 25 mm;
  • fittings - tees and angles, 4 pieces each;
  • pipe fasteners;
  • nuts and bolts;
  • plastic box or tabletop;
  • plastic clips for securing the pipe.

Required tool:

  • electric drill;
  • soldering iron;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • drill.

Manufacturing technology:

  1. The holes in the fittings are drilled out to 26 mm so that they can be attached to the legs of the chair.
  2. The nut is fixed in the plastic tee so that the bolt holds the aluminum pipe in the fitting. A hole with a diameter of 8 mm is drilled in the tee, in which the bolt is installed.
  3. To obtain a clamp for fixing the pipe inside, the nut is heated with a soldering iron and pressed inside the tee.
  4. To fasten parts of the body kit, which are required occasionally when fishing, additional holes can be drilled in the corner where the bolt and nut are placed. It is recommended to place a washer under the nut to prevent deformation of the metal tubes.
  5. The mount for hanging a box or attachment table is made in the form of a pipe placed on the side of the chair, running parallel. From the central support in the middle, an additional pipe is led to the side in the shape of the letter “T” with a leg in the ground. The table is attached with clips screwed to the bottom.

To attach the fishing rod, no additional support devices are required. It is enough to attach an outlet to the leg of the feeder chair. In the same way, you can make a folding chair with fastenings for other useful devices, fixed with fittings to the legs of the chair.

Features of such chairs

Feeder chairs have a number of features that should be taken into account when choosing a suitable model:

  • weight, it should be light, this is especially important if you have to get to the place on your own;
  • compactness, the smaller it is when folded, the more convenient it is to transport;
  • the carrying system in this case takes into account the presence of belt handles or other additional devices;
  • stability, in this case the indicators should be quite high since it will accommodate not only the fisherman himself, but also many different devices;
  • strength, the materials from which the chair is made must be of high quality and wear-resistant, resistant to humidity, exposure to sunlight and other external factors;
  • convenience, a person should feel comfortable when positioned in it; this is important to take into account because feeder fishing takes quite a lot of time. In high-quality chairs, not only the backrest, but also the support legs are adjustable, which is important when installing the seat on uneven surfaces.

One of the important features of feeder seats is that it is possible to install a variety of additional equipment or body kits on them. Body kit elements include:

  • holding devices;
  • footrest;
  • places for storing equipment;
  • bucket;
  • an umbrella, which will come in handy in case of bad weather;
  • headrests, armrests;
  • insulation located in the seat materials.

The presence of such additional devices makes fishing more comfortable; the fisherman can place everything around him that is necessary to carry out the process and not have to leave the place again. But you should understand that such additions greatly affect the weight of the chair; it can reach 12 kg.

Finishing and operation

To increase the service life of a hand-made feeder fishing chair, you need to carry out additional finishing processing of the materials:

  1. A chair made of metal pipes must be treated with an anti-corrosion compound. When using the chair in adverse weather conditions, rust will appear on the metal parts over time, which will shorten its service life.
  2. When making the legs, seat or back of a chair from wood, the surface must be coated with an antiseptic, primer and paint composition. This will significantly increase the resistance of the material to water and also extend the life of the chair.

Proper care is an important condition for the long service life of the feeder chair. After each use, the chair must be put in order: remove any adhering soil, wipe it dry. It is advisable to store the fishing chair in a specially designated place where it will not disturb anyone and will be protected from moisture.

Varieties

On store shelves there is a large selection of different chairs for feeder fishing, all of them have some differences that allow you to choose a more suitable model. So, devices are classified, first of all, by type of design:

  • stationary, they are affordable, have both soft and hard seats;
  • folding beds are compact and easy to transport; the back of such chairs folds out, which allows the fisherman not only to sit, but also to lie down while fishing; this feature is important during long processes, since the back gets tired even in a sitting position.

The most advanced and expensive models not only have the ability to fold out, but also allow you to adjust the height of the legs and place all the accessories necessary for fishing nearby, that is, they have body kits. The material used to make the frame is

  • polypropylene, which has high strength and resistance to external factors;
  • steel and other alloys that are not susceptible to corrosion.

You can also find models made of wood or plastic, but as a rule, such chairs are not very durable. For example, plastic at low temperatures becomes quite brittle, which leads to it breaking. As for the back and seat, they are produced:

  • tarpaulins and other similar materials.

They are filled with foam rubber, holofiber, padding polyester and other fillers.

The simplest option

How to make such a fishing seat with your own hands? If you're happy with a simple design, here's how to make one:

  1. Decide on the sizes that are right for you.
  2. Make the corresponding drawings.
  3. Take two closed rectangular metal pipes.
  4. Connect them crosswise with a bolt and nut.
  5. Sew a seat from a wide double strip of tarpaulin on top.
  6. Make a limiter at the bottom from a thin double strip of fabric.
  7. Attach another one to one of the arcs, which will act as a backrest.

This is the easiest option for making a folding bed. Although it is important to take into account that its back when unfolded will be in one position.

And here, for example, is a hybrid of a platform and a broken car seat:

Material support

During the production process you will need the following materials:

  • for legs – pipes 550 mm, diameter 20 mm (4 pcs.);
  • for the seat frame – length 550 mm, diameter 15 mm (4 pcs.);
  • for the back – length 700 mm (2 pcs.), length 300 mm (1 pc.), diameter 15 mm.

Important! In addition, you will need fastening material (according to the drawing) and rubber attachments for the legs.

If the frame will be painted, you should purchase a primer and paint. To cover the chair you will need any convenient material (leather, leather substitute, tarpaulin, polyester, etc.)

The set of tools for creating a frame is standard for any metal work:

  • Bulgarian;
  • drill;
  • welding machine.

Manufacturing procedure

Below are step-by-step instructions for making a chair for feeder fishing:

  1. Cut four frame pipes and prepare four fasteners.
  2. Two fasteners should be installed on two pipes. They are fixed at a distance of 60 cm from the beginning and end.
  3. An additional fastener is attached to each of the prepared pipes at a distance of 100 mm from the beginning. They will be used to make the backrest.
  4. Pipes with fasteners are connected to pipes without fasteners. The result will be a rigid rectangular structure, which will be the basis of the chair.
  5. Making a U-shaped backrest. Two long pipes (700 mm in size) are placed parallel to each other and connected by a transverse strip 300 mm long. At the end of each of the long pipes, fasteners are installed so that short sections can be inserted into them, located at an angle of 90° to the long pipe.
  6. The backrest is installed in fastenings on long pipes and the entire structure is tightened with fasteners.
  7. 4 fasteners are installed in the free ends of the tubes at the base, into which the legs are inserted. It should be possible to adjust them in height.
  8. Rubber attachments are placed on the bottom of the legs.
  9. If necessary, the chair frame is primed and painted.
  10. Covering the chair with soft material. Take a piece of finishing material and make several holes in it on each of the short sides. In this case, it will be possible to tie the ends of the material with an elastic band, ensuring its tension.
  11. The back is covered in the same way, but holes for the elastic are made on the sides, which are located near the 650 mm pipes.

The choice of feeder chairs today is quite large. Almost all manufacturers of fishing equipment also produce furniture for this hobby. Prices for these products may vary significantly depending on the manufacturer, materials used, workmanship and options. In any case, in this market there is a product for every budget. If the existing choice is not enough, you can make such a design yourself, since the algorithm for its manufacture is relatively simple and the materials are cheap.
